    MAKE-OVERS

    Learning Curve

[engl] Make-Overs are a unique duo of redheaded musical malcontents who hail from the grey suburban waste- land of Kilnerpark South Africa.?Formed in mid 2010 with Martinique on drums/ vocals and Andreas on guitar/vocals, the couple hit the South African scene with a frenzied live act that cuts through you like a machete. With elements of rock, pop, punk and noise and an intense, ener- gy-driven performance, the Make-Overs can fit a variety of bills, venues, and stages - from opening for Thee Oh Sees at the Empty Bottle in Chicago, playing at the renowned Memphis festival - Goner- fest, notorious Hozac Blackout Fest in Chicago, Oppikoppi in South Africa,?in-store shows at popular local hangouts like Bric-A-Brac, Permanent and Used Kids Records, basement shows, art exhibitions and even public access TV appearances like Chic-A-Go-Go. Frequently noted as one of South Africa’s most hard-working and prolific acts, it is no surprise that in 2016 alone they recorded and released both their 9th and 10th full-length studio albums. The 9th album “Try Me”, already available online and on CD, was also released on 12” limited edition vinyl through Columbus Ohio’s Heel Turn Records, and their 10th album “Dichotomy” was recently made available on BandCamp. They got awarded a Music Mobility Fund from Concerts SA and SAMRO to do an extensive local tour in April and they will be embarking on their 4th USA tour to promote their recent releases. Due to their astonishing work ethic, from producing and recording all their own albums, releasing on multi- ple formats (CD, tape, digital and vinyl) and touring vigorously both locally and internationally, it is no surprise that they are becoming known as being one of South Africa’s most beloved independent bands.

    MAKEOUTS

    Back To Sleep

[engl] Makeouts are a Stockholm, Sweden based Garage Punk band. From day one of their existence the had quite s following, and with their wild live shows and stage antics they established themselves in the garagerock scene. Their music is constantly evolving but they dont give a shit about the latest musical trend. Their first crude recordings back in 2005 had a early 90ties budget rock sound, they sent us a demo CD with four harsh and lo-fi tracks that simply hit the nail, just like the RIP-OFFS, SPASTICS or LOLI AND THE CHONES did, and those songs became one of our first 45s on Bachelor, catalog number BR-03. In 2010, with their debut album „In a strange land!“ (also released on Bachelor Records) they won the swedish independent music award, manifest for best swedish rock album of the year. By this time they already have been touring in England, Germany, Austria, Holland and Italy and played with bands like Jay Reatard, King Khan & BBQ Show, Dirtbombs, Eagles of Death Metal, New Bomb Turks, Hunx, Nobunny, Ty Segall,... Now, three years after the release of the critically well acclaimed debut album they are back with their opus magnum, „Back To Sleep“, a true masterpiece that will make waves and stand out of the tons of releases you get on your desk / dropbox each week... This full lenght contains noise, chaos and beauty, inspired by lots of cool music, but without sounding either retro or like a carbon copy. Europe now got their own brilliant garage punk band, the MAKEOUTS.

    MAKEOUTS

    Hjärndöd

[engl] We are very proud to present the MAKEOUTS first songs sung in swedish language, on a very limited 7" record housed in a brown paper sleeve. Soon after starting this wonderful enterprise called Bachelor Recording Co. the MAKEOUTS sent in a demo containing four harsh early 90s styled and lo-fi garage punk songs, and we instandly fell in love with these lads and did their debut 7" back in 2006. It's been nearly four years since we released the critically well acclaimed LP. They even won the swedish alternative music price in 2010. It was kinda surprising for us when they came up with the idea of doing a single in their motherlanguage, but when I listened to the recordings (we were sitting in a mexican restaurant and they were pushing earplugs into my direction...) I was blown away. Swedish is a good language for punk music! ASTA KASK! RADIOAKTIVA RÄKER! RUDE KIDS! Nuff said.... These two tunes here are straightforward and tight, but still have the certain MAKEOUTS charme. For those who dont unterstand what the MAKEOUTS are singing here, we included a inlay with the lyrics. In swedish. No subtitles. Limited to 200 copies!

    MAKEOUTS

    In a strange land!

[engl] THE MAKEOUTS started long time ago as a RIP OFFS blueprint, short harsh guitar riffs, fast paced songs and snotty vocals. Their first demo blew me away, so I did a 7” with them (still available btw). THE MAKEOUTS became quite well known in their country, played with all famous garage punk bands that stopped by, and toured Europe with THE HEARTATTACKS (also from Sweden). The< got quite some reputation as fun live band and got invited to festivals like ROTTERDAM RUMBLE, PRICKLY PEA BOWLS (Sardinia) and the CHOKE FEST (Innsbruck, Austriah!). After years and years of practicing they finally learned how to play their instruments and got back with a unique mixture of punkrock and garage pop, they definitely learned their BACK FROM THE GRAVE and NUGGETS lessons and fired them up with some serious BLACK LIPS, JAY REATARD and KING KHAN & BBQ SHOW herbs.

[engl] “Blow-out enthusiasts, make ready to scarf this down without chewing How many licks does it take to get to the spider egg in the center of this sugar bomb? You got the jitters, and dude, there’s blood on your shirt. I like gore with my goth. “hey, you got your pop sensibilities on my explosion!” Strong vocals a la Modern English, back-beat complete and foamy bass bleached onto 1/2” tape specially for Castle-Face. 7 head strong tunes to clatter your phonograph needle. I’ve always loved Matt Jones’ vocal stylings (ex-blasted canyons), rich with tenor muscle flexes. Over the top in its endeavors and reaching, always reaching. Primal gas-guzzler drumming center speaker from Adam sets the ear up for a beating And hell, its got the old (and I mean old) bass player, Mark, from the Mayyors…solid state aggression at its mid-low knuckle-dragging finest. A slap in the brain done up nicely here on wax. Enjoy” - John Dwyer All vinyl comes with a download card.

    MALE GAZE

    King Leer

[engl] Weirdo-punk supergroup Male Gaze is back with nine new chunks of octave-pedal abuse and sultry croons with King Leer, their first proper long-player. This time around, the trio of Matt Jones (ex-Blasted Canyons), Mark Kaiser (ex-Mayyors), and Adam Cimino (ex-The Mall) have added resident Castle Face engineer Chris Woodhouse behind the boards to ramp up the skuzz-pop of last year’s Gale Maze into brutal wall-of-sound territory. On King Leer, the boys toy with their poppier side, dosing the songs with syrupy melodies and some newfound heartfelt introspection, but they’re by no means going soft on us—these tracks, buried beneath mountains of fuzz and pounded out with Adderall-fueled fury, pack enough sonic punch to rattle your brain loose. - Luca Cimarusti, Chicago Reader

    Miss Taken

[engl] "Matt, Mark and Adam, aka Male Gaze, return quickly from the brainy roar of their previous album King Leer with their six heels hanging even further over the edge of the abyss. Good bands often pull punches but the great ones don’t and these charismatically scarred veterans of romance, gear singed from all too real firefights in the dark world of adulthood, lodge ten new slugs into your vest. Your life was spared but you’ll feel every second of the thirty five plus minutes, grateful that all you got was a bruising. Imagine what it did to them! Have you ever flung yourself out there to such a degree that you risked total humiliation if it all went south, to where the next step would be self deportation to some distant island of annihilation in your mind? How did that work out for you? Don’t worry, Male Gaze knows and they wrote some songs about it. Look out your window, down at the glittering metropolis below and listen to this album." - Henry Rollins

    Cronicas Terrestres

[engl] Totally excited to release the debut EP from Malos Modales. Hailing from Monterrey, Mexico, 4 amazing Garage/ Pop songs. If you are into The Marked Men, YOU NEED to check these out. Malos Modales are a punk band of people who technically aren’t old but could make some people question this very fact. Formed in Monterrey, Mexico, the band features some familiar faces in its lineup, namely Kiko Blake from División Minúscula (one of the most successful and emotionally charged bands from the past decade), and Johnny Vzz and Hugo “Scrap” Zapata from electroparty mainstays She’s A Tease (Chacho Zapata rounds up the band). They converged and recorded some demos, then decided to take the proper steps to formalize the band. They have recorded a self-titled EP at their rehearsal space with the help of a 4-track tape recorder. In short this is one of the best EPs we have heard for ages

    MAMA ROSIN

    Brule Letement

    MARK VODKA GROUP, THE

    s/t

[engl] Debut LP from The Mark Vodka Group, Nova Scotia delivers again. FFO Coneheads, DLIMC, Buzzcocks and sunshine in the city. More effortlessly catchy brilliance from Nova Scotia, Canada, that your ears, speakers and shelves simply cannot live without. You want a quality guarantee? Well, howsabout if I told you that The Mark Vodka Group includes members of the Booji Boys? Their 2019 opus ‘Tube Reducer’ should still be rattling the walls of your house and making your neighbours question the wisdom of moving next door to one of those ‘punk rockers’ the newspapers warned them about. This is a different prospect to the Boojis, of course. While that group buries deceptively tasteful hooks in clouds of ear-lacerating distortion, The Mark Vodka Group opt for a more immediately accessible level of audibility, while still keeping things firmly in the box marked ‘lo-fi’. They sound like a bare-bones Descendants at their most irritably bratty, stealing the Oblivians’ homework and doodling stupid faces all over the most insightful parts. Or maybe the other way around. Point is, they do smart and stoopid simultaneously and they’ll make you wanna dive onto a dancefloor to revel in both sides. As they’re not ashamed to tell you, however, the band have been around this music long enough to grow pissed off with… well, what have you got? Scenester elitism (‘Big Time Rocker’), the sudden trendiness of punk among previously sceptical normies (‘Everybody’s Punk Now’, which also boasts a killer Buzzcocks homage at its peak) and everyone dumb enough to cross them. Truth be told, punk rock doesn’t come out of these lyrical screes too well, but the Mark Vodka Group are too in love with the stuff to truly let go. Besides, as ‘Mark’s Blues’ laments at the album’s close, even when the rest gets you down, there’s always booze to keep us going: “The drinking hasn’t let me down yet.” Hey, Mark Vodka ain’t just a clever name. This is a damn fine record, though. Will Fitzpatrick.

    Buzzin'

[engl] Formerly of Toronto’s blown-out noisepop superstars The Marvelous Darlings, Mark Fosco hasn’t exactly rested on his laurels since that band broke up. Instead, he’s picked up where they left off – now recording as Marvelous Mark, he dropped debut solo LP Crushin’ last year via Drunken Sailor, and it proved not only what a ludicrously talented songwriter he is, but also how much fun can be had with a guitar, a fuzzbox and a whole lotta hooks. Buzzin’ collects the two EPs that preceded that album – Husband Material and Bite Me – together with seven brand new demos, and it’s another essential dose of woozy yet muscular powerpop. Recalling Teenage Fanclub circa Thirteen, Weezer at their catchiest and Slowdive hiding their steroids in thick clouds of weed smoke. Marvelous Mark is the moniker of Mark Fosco, formerly of the band Marvelous Darlings, which also included Matt Delong from No Warning and Ben Cook who plays guitar in Fucked Up. Essentially they were a Toronto punk supergroup "before they were famous", but their limited catalogue - a string of seven-inches - stuck like staples within a cult fanbase long after they called it quits. Bier raus, Fluppe an, Girl geschnappt und Party on!
