    ROY AND THE DEVILS MOTORCYCLE

Im Reich der wilden Tiere (no milk no sugar)

[engl] Three guitars, one drum set, three voices, a daredevil ride into the Kingdom of Wild Animals, Recorded in Nottingham by Tony "Doggen" Foster (Spiritualized) including their gorgeous evergreen "Learn to Lose" and Janis Joplin’s "Ain't Got a Worry" A new album from Roy & the Devil's Motorcycle – it’s their first in six years. And what a title! "Im Reich der Wilden Tiere (No Milk, No Sugar)". “In the Kingdom of Wild Animals” was a television programme for children, explains Markus Stähli, the youngest of the three brothers who make up the band alongside the drummer, Elias Raschle. "It was presented by some stiff colonial type gentleman. He was sitting in his office, talking about wild animals. Why is this a fitting title for the album? Because it's zeitgeist." Eight years ago, Roy & the Devil's Motorcycle supported post-psychedelic superstars Spiritualized on a European tour. Their guitarist Tony "Doggen" Foster was so impressed by their uncompromising dedication to the power of massed guitars and the mood of the moment that he invited them to his studio in Nottingham for some recording sessions. During the following few years the Roys returned to the "Mouse House" again and again. Always supportive and enthusiastic, Doggen never tried to interfere with their vision. "We played live with the same raw energy we used to play at our shows, guided by emotional chaos and excess.” The seven songs were mixed by Markus Stähli at home in Basel's Happy Home Studio. Hardly any overdubs, lots of feedback, and a very real pneumatic drill thrown in for good measure. "Pounding away right in front of the studio in Nottingham, it was part of the ambience. Gives you an idea of the sensibility at play, I guess." Three guitars, one drum set, three voices. As it says on the album cover: "Not a comfortable sound, nothing landscapish, no distance to a wide stereo spectrum, no ready-made room you can go in. Confrontation - talking to you. No milk no sugar." Four songs were written by the band, including their gorgeous evergreen "Learn to Lose". Driven by a hypnotic xylophone riff from the keyboard, the minimalist "Mo Rice" shows the Roys from a new side. A sign of things to come? Their cover of John Jacobs Niles's "Look Down That Lonesome Road" sounds hardly any less spooky than the original but clearly tells the story in a language of their own. The same applies to covers of the Little Anthony hit "Tears on My Pillow" and Janis Joplin’s "Ain't Got a Worry". Give thanks to Roy & the Devil’s Motorcycle! Theirs is a daredevil ride into a land of animal power and beautiful mystery.

    s/t

[engl] S.B.F. is a project made up by two Californian dudes that you’ve probably already heard of at one point or another, assuming that you’ve been keeping a close eye on my channel over these past few months: these two dudes are Cruz Somers—the guy behind L.A.’s Socialites (including the project’s live outfit, which features Raymond on guitar, his eponymously-named solo-projects (notably “UV-B” and “Beneath My Blood”. S.B.F. seems like a delightfully-eccentric halfway point between Cruz’s “UV-B” and Raymond’s “Race Car”, with the two sharing a similar light-hearted sense of melodiousness and techy-influence when it comes to the blatant drum machine usage, while doing without some of the gloomier aspects of UV-B’s musicianship. Not-surprisingly enough, the merger between Cruz’s vicariousness and Raymond’s succulent twang (I feel REALLY dirty saying that) makes for an utterly-infectious collection of quirky melodies, being further accentuated by the dissonance brought forth by their dual-guitar set-up

    S.U.G.A.R

    II

[engl]  LoFi for life! Berlin´s own S.U.G.A.R. are back with a brand new album!!! Sounding like 3 Australian expat garage rockers lost in early 80’s Berlin in a GDR bunker somewhere along the Berlin wall dead zone. With 70s Buzzsaw punk rock guitar, cranked up so loud you could kick a Cosmic Psycho’s ass out of the desert and roll around like a Saint in a basement of your wet dreams!!! Throw Amyl and her holster Sniffers in the Kreuzberg canals and you have some washed out S.U.G.A.R. rats! With eight proto-rock tracks reeling on 45rpm, any drag-race running endlessly on fumes, with the MC5 patched in woofie plays S.U.G.A.R louder than everything else! They recently shared their 72 pack of White Castle burgers back stage with STIFF RICHARDS and their well oiled rubber Kangaroo the day after being the backing band of Toody Cole of DEAD MOON! They were due to play with the SPITS, but had to cancel due their ‘meals-on-wheels aftermath’. Artwork again by guitar trooper Flo , LP "II" comes as "I" did, with a comic style cardboard inner sleeve and hairy and headchopping hologram stickers, (as long as the STATIC SHOCK record store snitches leave them in!) Scum Stats: First press 500 copies total, 400 black vinyl copies, 100 goldnugget vinyl copies (mail order only) for all ya late-stage capitalism rupee groupies!

    s/t

[engl] Three long-haired beer drinking good-for-nothings form a new band! As if there is no better idea at smoke-oh between the lawless tattoo hideouts and the banned spätkauf. Their debut album reminds of 70´s punk made in Australian pubs, on Southern California streets, Detroit dumpsters and german noisy fake jazz hard-rock sauerkraut crypts. Pickle some cut-loose early SAINTS demos, SUICICE COMMANDOS weirdness, off MAD PARADE / LEFTOVERS vocals with riff-driven, loud guitars. S.U.G.A.R. did not played any shows yet. It won´t change a bit of that odd and rough impression, those hellhounds are battle-scarred by the roaring years of garage rock and we would not wonder if the members sum up to thousand shows total in their previous bands. Besides SLANDER TONGUE, the Berlin proto rock thing to watch in late 2021. Recorded by Dick Rubin at RRR Studio, rest in peace. Stunning fake BLACK LIPS artwork! First press stats 200 black vinyl, 100 red vinyl mailorder/band only. Heavy, printed cardboard inner sleeve. First couple hundred copies come with extra two band stickers and download code.

[engl] 5 youngbloods outta the southswedish province. To be exact: Mölndal. When listening to their debut album you will recognize 2 things at once: Their song writing skills and their easy being when it comes to play great rock. This aspect is even more breath-taking when you consider the ages of the bandmembers: They all been 18 and 19 years old when they recorded the album and played together for 4 years. in our eyes (ears) they're so much further than most fo their colleagues. The Sacred Sailors didn't invent Rock#n'Roll but they present it in a way that's unbelievable fresh. Mixing-up a rock-bastard between CCR and Led Zeppelin, paired with the energy of abnds like the Hellacopters or Gluecifer.

    SAKURAN ZENSEN

    Ore wa sakuran zensen da!!

[engl] SAKURAN ZENSEN is an explosive rock band hailing from Tokyo, Japan. Consisting of five members all born in 1998, the band's mix of raucous punk with garage rock/rock 'n' roll-inspired songwriting has garnered significant buzz in the Japanese underground rock scene which has been spreading continuously all around the world. Their smashing debut album 'Ore Wa Sakura Zensen Da' was released on CD by SONY MUSIC JAPAN and now also on LP by TOPSY-TURVY RECORDS (division of SOUNDFLAT RECORDS). Alongside their totally out-of-control and brilliant punkrock hits 'Rock & Roll' and 'Taxi Man', which already gained popularity through their vibrant music videos attracting hundreds of thousands of views on social media, you can find nothing but wild and powerful, yet melodic pop-punk-tunes on this album, with just enough Japanese craziness and lo-fi garage energy to go wild to! While 'London Boots' reminds one a bit of a faster and rougher Japanese homage to LINK WRAY's 'Jack The Ripper', the album also includes melodic pop-punk tunes such as 'Don Dor', 'Matatabi' and 'Boy Meets Boys'. However, the catchy 'My Harp', 'Blue', 'Hammer' or 'Curry & Rice' are straightforward high-energy-punk-tunes to fall in love with immediately. SAKURAN ZENSEN can be compared to a young, highly exciting and very Japanese version of THE HIVES - loud, fast, out-of-control high-energy-punk'n'roll straight from Japan!

Why isn't there a group of teenage ne'er-do-wells who can combine these two genres to entertain us and hundreds of other trash loving individuals? THERE IS!!! Oh yes, three very active scenesters who play in maybe 10 other bands as well gave it a shot, and here is a record they cut under the strange moniker SALAMIRECORDER & THE HI-FI PHONOS. I did not ask them about the reason or meaning of this band name. I supposed i won't get any enlightning answers anyway. But well! Here it is! A record full of fresh trashy garage surf punk music with a truckload of reverb and echoes, and cryptic song titles. No mere nostalgia mongers, SALAMIRECORDER & THE HI-FI PHONOS sound old and new at the same time, the songs are sometimes harsh and loud but still contain enough melody to turn every live show into a wylde dance party!

    SATANS PILGRIMS

    At Home With

[engl] Green Cookie Records and Satan's Pilgrims are happy to announce the reissue of "At Home With Satan's Pilgrims", the very first full length Pilgrims album originally released in 1994 on eMpTy Records. This album has been long out of print and will now be available again on LP and CD, remastered and with a short run of red colored vinyl copies available! Even on their first album, the Pilgrims came out of the gate with some of their best loved original songs, such as "Surf Lyre", "¿Que Honda?", and "Petty 43". The cover songs they chose show their allegiances. Rather than going for the Dick Dale style that was about to reintroduce the world to surf music via "Pulp Fiction" (which was released into theaters not long after the release of "At Home With Satan's Pilgrims"), the Pilgrims chose a more band oriented style as they covered The Bel-Airs, Eddie & The Showmen, The Rondels/The Challengers, and having three guitars, The Astronauts ...natch! Now here we are in 2018, looking back on the 1990s surf the same way Satan's Pilgrims and the other 90s bands were looking back to the original 1960s surf for inspiration. Whether you were there in the 60s, 90s, or are just discovering surf, we hope you will enjoy this piece of surf music history.

    SCANERS

    III

[engl] 1000 days later, the white-jacket-black-glove- four piece space crew from France is back with a new album. The third one. Is it supposed to be the tricky one? Well, common sense says that the fruit should peak maximum ripeness after a certain time. Just to make it clear, The Scaners still don't give a flying fuck, as they always go off-roading. The basics are as bright as a full moon night; frenetic sci-fi synth-punk hits on a swirling garage rock'n roll after having passed the point of no return. That said, we can smell that something changed recently... Vital needs of a punk rock party collides with wavy post-punk atmospheres, martial disco beats and some kind of fuzzy garage pop melancholia.

    SECRET PROSTITUTES / CROOKED BANGS

    Split

[engl] Two bands located in Texas, one was singing in French, the other in Indonesian and I’m gonna put out a Split 7“ for them… Do you know which bands I’m talking about!? If not, here is the answer: Crooked Bangs and Secret Prostitutes. After their stunning first record, Crooked Bangs approach their sound in a way that is sinister but also inviting, a veil of gloom — courtesy of Ginestra’s foreboding vocals and Wendel’s snappy guitar work — with an inducing rhythm section. There are elements of ’70s punk and ’60s garage rock lurking throughout, but these influences don’t override their own ideas. The upfront person is vocalist/bassist Leda Celeste Ginestra, who sings like she discovered punk in the catacombs of a Parisian cabaret. Alternating between French and English lyrics, Ginestra brings uncommon depth and richness to macabre depictions of blood castles and flesh-ripping wolves. At the same time, she's quick to morph into guttural, Linda Blair-style screeching when the song demands it. Guitarist Samantha Wendel cuts the clutter in favor of finding the perfect surf-goth tone, while drummer Phillip Gonzalez plows through the anxious night like a pepped-up trucker. On the flip there will be the mysterious reincarnation of KBD Punk. In my opinion there’s no introduction needed! You just have to know that the KBD spirit of the band and the music fit genuinely into the era of the style. They would fit perfectly into the early Houston punk scene of bands looking for a place to play. The beat and Indonesian lyrics will cause you to tap your boot, shake your ass and scratch your head while you’re banging it. But it will always make you smile, unlike your KGB counterparts who haven’t been this confused since trying to understand the argot of contempt sung secretively by bands behind the Iron Curtain.

    SEWERGROOVES , THE

    Saturday night,tonight we're...

Straight from Stockholm ''Rock City'' here are The Sewergrooves. These disciples of all things heavy, pound the graves of The Wipers, early Urge Overkill and Thin Lizzy then proceed to wash it all down with a curdled cocktail of motorcity septic tank backwash. But this trip ain't just about ragged ass raw power. Shecky, THE SEWERGROOVES also dish out ample gobs of both melody and hooks with their thunder, and thus, not surprisingly have been compared to their high profile allies in all things rock, The Hellacopters, an observation which we feel has much more to do with mere geography than true topography (even though BOTH machines use to share skin basher, Robert 'Copter).

    SEWERGROOVES , THE

    Trouble Station

„Trouble Station“ knüpft nahtlos an den Sound von „Saturday Night, Tonight We're Gonna Have Some Fun“ an. Und so sind Songs wie „Free to Fly“ oder „One of those things“ mehr als nur einfache Retro-Rockstücke, sondern zementieren das gelungene Unterfangen, auch im Jahr 2011 Rock ohne falsches Pathos zu zelebrieren. Dieses zeichnet die Sewergrooves aus; „Trouble Station“ beweist, daß man sich auch im Jahr 2011 nicht zwangsweise für das Hören von Hardrock schämen muss.

A new album will be released end of May '23 containing 13 songs about the usual shit , love, frustation ,tragedy and lies. Link Wray, The Sonics, Oblivians, Roky Erickson, The Deadly Snakes,Chuck Berry MC5 and Reigning Sound are some of the bands the Sha-La-Lee’s have stolen from. Everything would be said in a nutshell if there wasn't more to it than that. The Sha- La-Lee’s is the logical step after 30 years of experience in the music business. Everyone knows these kitsch films, man/woman from the village goes out into the big world, does business, feels empty, comes back and finds happiness. Even if this image conveyed is wrong, there is an important narrative in it. Happiness needs direct contact. And that's how it is in rock 'n' roll. Big stages help the ego, but they never convey the real idea of rock 'n' roll. Perhaps this thought was the inspiration behind the founding of the Sha-La-Lee’s. The smell of cigarette smoke at the concert, a beer bottle to your lips instead of a half-crushed plastic cup. Conversations after the show with like-minded people instead of the same small business talks in the locked backstage area. It's a guess, but one that's suggested by the sound of the album. This rough form of writing songs, paired with 30 years of band, stage and whatever experience, makes old garage punk hearts swarm. "Garbage Dreams" has something timeless about it, a sound that doesn't pander to anyone, that's what it is - garage punk the way I love it.

    SHADY AND THE VAMP

    As we told you earlier

[engl] With REATARDS-rippers, BLACK LIPS-shingalings and FATALS-distortion SHADY & THE VAMP puts the deranged teenage youth into wild ecstasy and introduces them to new dances with no names. Slowing down the rhythm while singing in HUNX- and SHANGRI-LAS-tradition to the broken hearted, the fast pogo-chaos changes into kissing lovebirds, lying on dirty beer-floors: Hands get lost, couples become sextets and sometimes a moustache meets a moustache. In 2009 Rickey Rocket & Doc Julius recorded three songs and let them get anonymously into their local garage promoter and played their first concert as "closing-band" for the legendary Englishmen-band THE MASONICS and impressed garage-punk fathers Bruce HEADCOATS Brand and Mickey MILKSHAKES Hampshire: "I don't think they can keep that high energy very long". Since then their killer-song repertoire is still growing ad infinitum. They brought NOBUNNY to cut his feet by shards of beer glasses, they let forget the audience on a dirty saturday night that the main act THE MAGNETIX was missing, KING AUTOMATIC dreams since the two shows he shared with them of a whole band, they gave THE MONSTERS the shivers at their record release party and they also showed JACK OF HEART how to dress properly. In late 2010 SHADY & THE VAMP released their super limited 9-song cassette (so limited, not even numbered) on HIGH TIME records, which was followed in mid 2011 by their 7" Baby, I'm gonna make you mine on HIGH TIME/MONAVALE. It's garage-punk in the way it should sound in this decade. Garage-punk loved by boys and adored by girls. In 2012 they went to Toulouse. During a weekend at LOSPIDERs studio they recorded a couple of songs. The result is a psyched silk-screen printed 10" on Moi J'Connais Records!
