    AGRIMONIA

    Host Of The Winged

[engl] "The wait was long, but now it's ready! A dignified follow-up of their first album! An intense Dolp from this dark crust band from Gothenburg. I haven't really enough words to describe this brutal yet twisted attack on my eardrums. Eight songs in just over 72 minutes(!) of death and blackmetal gloom with a healthy dose of crust punk influences leaving me speechless. "

    AGRIMONIA

    s/t

[engl] Their "demo" cd hit me by surprise and I really couldn't refuse to put this out! These folks come from Gothenburg in lovely Sweden and deliver the goods! The demo (minus 1 song though) that you'll find on this black piece of vinyl hold 4 times thundering death and black metal soaked doom, with hints of crust, as well as atmospheric and epic darkness. The guitars range from devastating heaviness to gloomy acoustic sections, with piercing leads that flash through the darkness every now and then. If you've ever wanted to know exactly how your favourite metal, crust, and doom bands would have sounded like if they were one band this is where you should turn. I won't namedrop anything, just ask you to take me on my word that you really need to check this out if you've been even the slightest intrigued with what's written above. Even though I could drop many influential names, as well as list several of your favourite Swedish crustcore bands in the "members of" department. (Kleister)

On top of it they added a drum machine to their line-up & somehow they managed it that it sounds like a real drummer!! Overall lyrical topic is the title "The Struggle Continues". CHAOTIC END

    In Front Of Paranoia

[engl] A final limited repress of only 319 copies on Magenta & Black hazed vinyl! Comes with original artwork, insert and poster! CHAOTIC END formed in 1989 were the greek answer to AMEBIX and played a similar style of ultra heavy, atmofearic but shredding political crust and hardcorepunk. In my opinion they were one of the most convincing bands of that genre. This is their one and only vinyl-output they did in 1993 on Wipe Out Records. It captures the band on their high-point after two already excellent demo-K7s. Here the 3-piece deliver 9 songs of extraordinarily good Crust-Metal - 3 long brooding bits on the A-side followed by 6 heavy galloping anarcho-crust pieces with harsh and raspy vocals on the B-side. Music that makes no prisoners influenced by bands such as Amebix or Axegrinder on one- and Doom or the good old swedish mangel of the early 1980ies on the other end forged together to something on their own. In 1996 they sadly ceased to exist. In 2014 after 18 years of silence they picked up their arms again and played a convincing live-set – Ten years passed and the Band is still kicking ass with even a new LP under their belt! This is Greek CRUST at its best!

    CONTRAVENE

    A Call to Action

[engl] European pressing of this raging @-punk release that was put out on Tribal War Records early last year. Eric and Shelly from Catchphraze Records are among the members of Contravene, an action minded anarcho-punk band from Arizona. Powerful and slightly metaltinged music back up a female vocal charged assault with angry and well-written political lyrics. Mostly fast and upbeat but they're also not afraid to put in more melodic and calm parts That reminds me often of bands like Nausea on one, and early Chumbawamba on the other end. They do a great cover of One by One's "Common Ground" from the "In the Spirit of Total Resistance" comp.

    COUNTDOWN TO ARMAGEDDON

    Through the Wires

[engl] "This is the second full-length release from COUNTDOWN TO ARMAGEDDON, a 3-piece based in Seattle, WA whose sound originated in apocalyptic crust and progressed into more melodic, post-punk territories over the past eight years of their tenure. Thick layers of reverb and chorus-effected darkwave riffs, sometimes reminiscent of early KILLING JOKE or CHRISTIAN DEATH, weave in and out of the lines between punk, hardcore, and d-beat crust, while retaining a unique identity in each of the eight tracks on the album. Lyrically this album addresses the conflict between the artificial and natural worlds, and the struggle to preserve humanity in an increasingly digitized and bleak dystopian future. Through a reconnection to nature the path toward destruction can be altered, and thereby escaping the psychological constraints of the modern age.

    CROSS STITCHED EYES

    Decomposition

[engl] Decomposition, the second full-length by US / UK / German collective Cross Stitched Eyes, follows in the tradition of anarchist punk and demonised death rock (Rudimentary Peni, Amebix and Killing Joke). Embracing the many irrational and visceral shades of this style's darkest corners, the album decidedly rejects traditional copy-and-paste guidelines of musical conformity with a puncturing attitude. The harsher side of Cross Stitched Eyes derives directly from the band's artistic influences and its deconstructed presentation. Decomposition's leadoff track "We Follow" evokes reactions to seemingly unchanging lifestyles with a vitriolic diatribe. Others like "Animated Corpse" and "Earth's Defiant" display a lyrical depth seldom heard these days. At times benign, at others aggressive, Decomposition explores the complicated relationship between dark and light in a repulsive world filled with gloom. 12 new tracks recorded between 2010 and 2011 and mastered by Skott Brown of the Phantom Limbs.

    DETESTATION

    s/t

[engl] "A final repress of the mid ninties classic Skuld release of Portland's DETESTATION. An absolutel classic of nineties anarcho-hardcore punk that sounds like a mix between Nausea & Sacrilege with some influences from old Swedish bands and highly angry socio-political lyrics. Existing between roughly 1995—1998 or so, Detestation was a rather surprisingly prolific group during that time. This repress of the band's 1998 self-titled LP collects some of their finest material. Though the mandatorily interconnected Portland lineup contains pre-/post- ties to Defiance, Masskontroll, Resist, Hellshock, and Severed Head of State, among others, Detestation's rather commonplace brand of 90's crust punk remains a well rooted benchmark for the scene, and with good reason. Thanks in no small part to some scorching female vocals with great vocal arrangements, the band's lightly metallic power chords tended to be a little tighter and more memorable than most, thus Detestation is rightfully remembered as one of the finest of the genre.

    PROTESTERA

    01.05.1886

[engl] New full length from Protestera which gives us a new approach to society and its boundaries. Taking up where Rock n riot left off; raging speed and anger, as fast and aggressive and powerful a-punk could get. 11 songs in total (3 are re-recorded) that show that this band manages to invent themselves over and over again from release to release. The thoughtful lyrix and thoughts are printed in a 36-pages booklet with lots of graphics. The title really says it all; 01.05.1886. The date itself is when the Haymarker massacre took place where five anarchists where sentenced to death for throwing a bomb into a crowd of people. All of them where innocent. Although this was a long time ago, 140 years to be exact, the situation is basicly the same today. If you have an opinion about society that´s not really applied in today´s society, you still will be sentenced for your thoughts.

    RIPCORD

Discography #1: Damage is Done / Defiance Of Power

[engl] "This material has been out of print on vinyl for nearly 15 years. This is the shit, though it is nothing more than just a raw thrash attack. It contains all the tracks from their selfproduced flexi and their first album on Manic Ears. RIPCORD definded the english hardcore between 1984 and 1988. Along with HERESY, the STUPIDS, DOOM and EXTREME NOISE TERROR, they were one of the best bands that England had to offer at that time when Cal had gotten his balls sewed on again and the technicolor punks from Kings Road became extinct. RIPCORD, though from Weston-Super-Mare would have loved being a D.C. (TEEN IDOLS / G.I.) or Boston band (S.S.D. / D.Y.S.), but they were one of these bands that could easily outrival their paragons. Their greatest recording event was the John Peel Session (featured on the ""More Songs"" CD resp. later on the Discography Pt. 3 LP). The entire RIPCORD catalog was re-released on 3 vinyl LPs in cooperation with Epistrophy in 2002 with a repress in 2014. Steve Hazzard and John later joined SPITE, John and Jim formed DUMBSTRUCK. Steve, Baz and John later also played in VIOLENT ARREST while Jim joined EXTINCTION OF MANKIND. A1-A9 originally released as The Damage Is Done E.P. flexi on Raging Records. Recorded at Diamond Demo's Studio, Bristol 25/5/1986. Rerecorded and remixed at Emergency Plus Studios, Bristol 31/5/1986. A10-B11 originally released as Defiance Of Power MLP on Manic Ears. s/t

[engl] Official Repress of the first TRAGEDY Album on Skuld Releases, this time in the original package of the US Pressing (Tragedy Records) - From the opening acoustic intro to the last dark, thrashed out note this is one seriously intense album. The obvious comparisons His Hero Is Gone and From Ashes Rise are there for sure but to me this has a bit more of a straight up hardcore feel to it. That said though, this has some excellent heavy pounding drum beats happening and some changes in pace, pitch and mood that are so tight and sudden they scream for your attention. The harsh throaty vocals belt out lyrics that are written as single block paragraphs dealing with overtly sociopolitical issues all looked at from a less than positive point of view. This record is very heavy, very angry and although you will probably like it, it will not make you happy!
