[engl] Mellie’s first EP „Have Head“, released in spring 2020, was a small manifesto of brooding. While the urban zeitgeist wants to shake this off once and for all in order to just get things done and be even more productive, Mellie explicitly appreciates the permanent thinking-things-through. The whole thing comes with a melancholic, opaque sound which is shaped by sometimes discordant, often catchy guitar riffs and repetitive, almost paralyzing basslines. The trio‘s sound is anything but forced or exhausting, on the contrary: Mellie’s music is in many places subtle, in the very best sense of the word, sometimes even shy. Krautrock-like, repetitive passages bring a reduced version of early Stereolab to mind. „First Fridge“ calls up memories of Sonic Youth’s brighter and poppier songs.

Employing early 80's antics integrated with sublime worldly,post punk, minimal and kosmische overtones help mark this release as a powerful jumping off point for Naked Lights.  Chime Grove is a strong prequel for the band's current live and studio endeavor's which mend newly added singer Aurora Crispin's poignant and playful vocals with a full encompassing post punk splatter,  including a classic no frills live show  featuring live drums,  percussion, double jarring glass like guitars and bass.  With the band's newly completed Santo Studio,  a full analog recording studio at their disposal, this release charts an important initial offering in Naked Lights no doubt prolific future. [engl] It’s already 3 years Berlin-based band Pigeon released their self-titled debut LP and shortly after the Bug EP but also hard to believe they found the time to get together with all the involvement in other projects like Liiek, Ostseetraum, Benzin or or or. The 10 new songs on Deny All Knowledge Of Complicity are dry, restive and full of guitar feedback. Pigeon are a contemporary version of post-punk heroes Wire and New Zealand’s noiserock band The Gordons.

[engl] We are so excited to finally, officially announce the brand new LP from Washington, DC’s The Rememberables! Breathe, their second full-length, will be available everywhere Friday, October 8th, and is being released in conjunction with our friends Head2Wall Records in the USA. Descended from the ‘90s wave of guitar-driven power pop bands that owed as much to Van Halen as to Big Star, The Rememberables have crafted a hook-laden, fuzzed out masterpiece. Deftly produced by the legendary Kurt Ballou to perfectly capture every subtle nuance of their deep and sophisticated approach to the genre, this is not a record to miss. The Rememberables formed in 2013 in Washington DC and solidified their lineup one year later with the addition of Chris Moore on drums (Coke Bust, Repulsion, etc). After releasing their self-titled debut EP in 2015, the quartet coupled that with new songs to create the 2017 self-titled LP. The seven track effort, which saw release via Adagio830, was engineered by Kevin Bernsten (Triac, Eyeflys) at Developing Nations Studio in Baltimore, MD and mastered by Brad Boatright (From Ashes Rise) at Audiosiege Engineering in Portland, OR. The band released a pair of digital tracks in late 2019 as the B-Side You EP before heading into the studio in 2019 to record Breathe.

[engl] Formed in 2010, Ruined Families is a hardcore punk band based in Athens, Greece. Following two acclaimed LPs and a 7", their new release is called 'Education' and features 10 songs spanning just over 17 minutes. Drawing elements from their previous work, 'Education' touches on 90s screamo, fast hardcore and post-punk.Unavoidably marked by the lasting turbulence of the Greek condition, Ruined Families attempt to make the most out of a precarious present by putting frustration into words that speak the mind of contemporary youth. [engl] Baton Rouge, LA, has produced a trio of musicians that seem to have come to the 2010's via the 1990's, and they call themselves Secret Smoker. This debut LP has the sonic, political, and emotional hallmarks of bands like Hoover, 400 Years, Amber Inn, Wolves, and Sleepytime Trio, while maintaining a discernible identity of its own. Featuring former members of We Are The Living, and active participants of the Hungry Ghost Collective, these guys are intent upon driving home passionate "emo" the way you knew it before the shopping malls got a hold of it. If you like your music with movement and meaning, dig in!

[engl] Mappō is a phenomenon. It’s a record driven by sprawling emotion, effervescent ebullition and genuine authenticity, things that evoke a vivid imagery somewhere between despair and hope or affection and rejection without even understanding what those sexy French words mean anyway. Each measure feels like the unfiltered distillation of its notes and rhythms, as reverb-drenched arpeggios drip on moody bass tones like drizzling rain that soon will turn into the thunderous outcry of crashing cymbals and aching screams. And yet, every part of this record feels completely rounded, carefully thought out and comprehensively written. There are no signs of predictable crescendos, kitschy instrumental passages or overstated wailing that might illustrate the lyrical content or underlying theme well, but ultimately hinder the song in flow and its dynamic range. Instead, Mappō feels like an even symbiosis of exciting songwriting and emotive peaks whose love for detail is never affected by the heart-wrenching riffs and passionate vocal delivery.
