Love, Peace & Poetry Vol.06 Brazilian

Love, Peace & Poetry Vol.10 Chilean

"Schnitzelbeat Vol.1" bietet Twisted Rock-N-Roll, Exotica & Proto-Beat Unknows from Austria 1957-1966!- Format

Schnitzelbeat Volume 2
[engl] A Sunday in August 1965: While the grown-ups are tending to their cars and gardens, a bunch of kids are maltreating budget guitars, cheap Italian combo organs, and ramshackle drum sets in the garage. Mandatory accessoires: longer hair than all the other boys at school, and black boots pointier than the tip of a knife. What had happened to these youths? N What had infected the young (amateur) musicians brought to you by Schnitzelbeat Vol. 2 was the exciting, new, hot sound seeping into cozy, provincial Austria from happening places like New York, London, and Hamburg. The artists compiled on this collection translate the air of unrestrained abandon transported by the newly emerging popular genres into their own, locally flavored idiom: Teenage Beat and Garage Rock Made in Austria, 1964-1970.Presenting internationally operating epigones of Austrian underground sound of the 1960s (THE SLAVES, THE GAMBLERS) alongside recently re-discovered trailblazers of independent production (THE LOST GENERATION, THE EARLS), Schnitzelbeat Vol. 2 is the first compilation of its kind to pay respect to the wilder side of home-grown Austrian teenage sound of the 1960s in all its diversity: you’ll find Instro Rock smashers, Beat ballads, straight-up Rhythm’n’Blues pieces, jangling, Folksy harmonies, savage Proto-Punk blowouts, and – of course – the off-the-wall appropriations of well-known interna-tional Beat hits that often provided ambitious amateurs with the jump-start they needed to get their own sound up and running. Curated and compiled by Al Bird Sputnik of the TRASH ROCK ARCHIVES (Vienna), this volume makes a compelling case for a revisionist history of Austrian Pop and Rock music. No 1960s underground Beat in the Alpine republic? Not true!- Format

Sedayeh Del
[engl] Khosh Amadid, friends, to this 4th volume in a series of compilations highlighting fiercely rare 45s from Tehrans pre- revolutionary golden age. Vivacious ladies with sassy Dorothy Hamill haircuts and skin- bearing pantsuits were once plastered across Tehrans newsstands. Those gorgeous sirens and their hunky male counterparts made all the teens sway to hand drums that boinked in 6/8 time. Plush brass & string arrangements took their cues from Latin grooves, psychedelic guitars, ritzy soundtracks, and sugary pop from the West. Within months of the 1979 Islamic revolution, pop music was labeled a symbol of the previous regime and became illegal overnight. In those same months, it also became illegal for women to be in public without conforming to the hijab dress code. By hook and crook, these little round records survived, and they attest to a time when Tehrans homegrown and exiled populations would have been united in an easygoing love for funk bass & buzzing synthesizers. Hear the tunes that rivaled the hits of Googoosh & Kourosh by singers who only recorded a few precious singles, but don?t think for a minute that Tehrans nightingales have run out of surprises for your ears. The discoveries are just beginning.- Format

Tisheh o risheh
[engl] Ohhh, those rolling 6/8 time signatures, wah- ed out guitars, throbbing bass lines & shimmery disco strings. After two sets of singles from the jet- setting 1970s Tehran pop scene, Pharaway Sounds brings you a third round- up of tunes from just before the Iranian revolution. You'll find rockers from bands like the Rebels, making their way through the western sounds of the late 70s. But maybe more important, hear the voices of the girls, sweet & tough alike, who all ran out & got their hair cut in a foxy Hamill camel just like trend- setter Googoosh. A set that veers from gypsy fiddles to crime jazz piano to Abba knock- offs, and it's all from the teen idols of stage & screen who once filled glossy magazines to promote their latest musical adventures. Remastered sound, colour insert with pictures and detailed liner notes. CD comes with colour booklet with pictures and detailed liner notes.- Format

Zendooni
[engl] Zendooni celebrates a time when Pop artists in Iran ruled the country. During the 70s, before the Revolution, Occidental and Middle East mannerisms collided and the result was a new kind of Iranian Pop which incorpotated different genres and arrangements to its Persian roots. Touches of Funk, Jazz, Latin, Bossa, Progressive- Psychedelic sounds and Morricone / Blaxploitation styled soundtracks can be heard on this collection, culled from miraculously survived vinyls and cassettes. A surreal voyage back to the Golden Age of Persian Pop. A vibrant time when female singers like Nooshafarin, Azita, Pouran or Ramesh appeared in colourful teen mags dressed in full hippie fashion. We are proud to present for the first time to Western ears amazing examples of Persian psych- prog like ''Safar'' by Hassan Shamaizadeh and ''Vi Bafa'' by Kambiz ; Persian funk by Azita, Nooshafarin, Emad Raam, Pooneh ; Bollywood styled sounds by Ahmad Wali & Hangama and much more.- Format

VAMPIRES, THE
Vampires Underground
[engl] Where does a band of Indian guys in East South Africa even play, and how on earth would they end up with fuzzy guitar riffs, wah- wah and funky drums? Riddles abound when you discover a platter like this one. Durban, famous for its beaches and also for beach signs that marked off areas for white people, had a very unique dance band scene in 1971. The Vampires are a strange footnote in a strange world, and they slosh through each song like they're having the time of their lives. The mostly instrumental band covers everything from a soundtrack that prefigures the drama of Ennio Morricone fuzz, to middle of the road Nashville country, to Zeppelin, with flute, organ and fuzz guitar high in the mix.- Format

VESCOLI, TONI
Information
[engl] In 1970, when Swiss garage- beat band Les Sauterelles split, their leader, Toni Vescoli, decided to start a solo career. At first, inspired by Dylan, he thought of going strictly acoustic, but he soon changed his mind and, influenced by bands like King Crimson and Pink Floyd, he started incorporating psychedelic & electric elements to his sound: feedback, primitive drum machines, guitars and vocals filtered through Leslie speakers etc. He also incorporated to his repertoire some of the songs he had written for the never recorded Sauterelles concept album, Seven Deadly Sins. In 1971, Toni released his debut solo album, ?Information?. A folk- rock / psychedelic gem which reflected his influences at the time: folk, rock, psychedelia, progressive- rock? From fragile acoustic numbers to dark, wigged- out psychedelic tracks, this is highly recommended to anyone into ?CQ? era Outsiders or Frank Nuyens ?Rainman? album.- Format

WINDY CORNER
The house at windy corner
[engl] Formed in Amsterdam in the late 60s, Windy Corner were a psychedelic folk- rock band who rarely played live. Using self- made instruments and amplifiers, they recorded long sessions at their rehearsal space in a cottage. In 1973, they released their first album, ''The House At Windy Corner'', a 100 copies custom pressing on the collectable Deroy label. Underground progressive / psychedelic folk- rock with charming home- made sound and fragile atmosphere. Dreamy vocals, organ, acoustic / electric guitars, bass and drums, similar at times to other obscure lo- fi psych bands like A- Austr or Ithaca, Agincourt... First ever reissue. Remastered sound, original artwork, insert with liner notes and rare photos.''Something of an enigma in the collector's circle, their ambitious and intricate long instrumental passages remind me of the British underground group Sindelfingen and the more understated and meditative improvisations of the San Francisco- bands Mad River (first album) and Grateful Dead (1968- 70). Windy Corner's home recordings were generally quite strange and highly rewarding?'' - Dag Erik Asbjornsen, Scented Gardens Of The Mind- Format
