    HAVENSTREET

End of the line / Perspectives

[engl] The genesis of Havenstreet goes back to 1969, when Phil Ridgway and Jeff Vinter played in The Gas, an experimental psychedelic band heavily influenced by Barrett- era Pink Floyd. The two friends started to write songs their own songs, ending up as a folk duo. With the offer to record some of their material at a friend's studio, they recruited more musical friends?so Havenstreet was born. The influences had expanded now to bands and artists such as Peter Hammill, Strawbs, Traffic, Procol Harum, Stackridge, Keith Tippett, Bert Jansch? In the early- mid 70s they recorded a couple of albums which circulated as private cassettes among friends and relatives. In 1977, Havenstreet released ''The End Of The Line'', a self- released album in a private edition of 250 copies. It was collection of very English songs with evocative, literate lyrics and a stunning progressive folk- rock sound. It featured one of the earliest known tributes to Syd Barrett on the song ''When the madcap meets the world''.

    HIGH SPEED & AFFLICTED MAN

    Get stoned ezy

[engl] In 1982, the mysterious Steve Hall, a self- proclaimed ?hippie- punk? who had previously released a couple of D.I.Y basement- punk albums with his band Afflicted Man, recorded one of the most obscure, underrated and KILLER heavy- psych albums of all time. Credited to High Speed & Afflicted Man, ?Get Stoned Ezy? consists of three long tracks of late 60s / early 70s influenced psychedelic hard- rock. A fuzz- wah assault of epic proportions in the style of other guitar- damage Gods like Human Instinct, Wicked Lady, Hendrix, High Rise, Sabbath, Stooges, etc, all played with a real acid- punk attitude.

    HOMER

    Grown in U.S.A Plus Bonus

[engl] With their roots traced in two legendary 60s garage bands, The Outcasts and The Stoics, Homer were without doubt one the best psychedelic / hard- rock outfits coming out from Texas. ?Grown in U.S.A? was their only album, released as a private pressing in 1970. Rural psychedelic rock with early prog hints fuelled by stunning lead / dual guitar, melodic vocals and occasional mellotron. We present this collectable album in a 2LP expanded edition including their early singles - which are prime examples of 60s Texan garage- psych - plus previously unreleased studio demo tracks, recorded at the same time as the album. Newly remastered sound especially for this vinyl release, gatefold sleeve with detailed liner notes and rare pictures. 180gr vinyl.

    IZUKAITZ

    Izukaitz

[engl] What a wonderful album this is!!! The first album by Basque folk group Izukaitz, originally released on the Xoxoa label in 1978. Strongly into traditional Basque folk but adding some rock elements to it; they use traditional instruments like Txirula or Alboka, but some psychedelic backwards guitar too. Beautiful male/female vocals also, entirely sung in Basque language. This group will sure remind you on the best moments of British folk legends like Fairport Convention or Steeleye Span. This is the first ever vinyl reissue, for which we've used the original mastertapes and of course it comes in original artwork with its gatefold cover. Limited to 500 copies.

    JEFFERSON AIRPLANE

It Crawled Out Of The Vaults Of KSAN 1966-1968 - Volume 2: Live At The Fillmore Auditorium 1966 & 67

[engl] Here we go with some awesome underground live material from one of the most important psychedelic rock pioneers in history of mankind. JEFFERSON AIRPLANE, ladies and gentlemen, in a very early incarnation when Skip Spence and Signe Anderson had just made way for the goddess of psyche Grace Slick on vocals and Spencer Dryden on drums to form what should become the classic line up leading this band to their huge success. Four of nine songs also appear from their cult album ?Surrealistic pillow? released in 1967, two more have appeared as part of ?Jefferson Airplane takes off? in 1966. There are later live versions of ?Fat angel? and ?Other side of life? on the 1969 live album ?Bless it's pointed little head? but these are the earlier, more rough edged and insane psyche out recordings of both beautiful pieces. Well, you get JEFFERSON AIRPLANE on this record, bare naked and honest to the bone. Just as they had been when they plugged in and played. The sound is amazing, raw and wild but clean and powerful enough to give every instrument and voice enough room to unfold. Technically not overwhelming but with a feeling of passion and dedication that only a true live recording can capture. And from every note that is played here you can feel the breath of the era where the cold war nearly turned into a very hot one and the world stood on the edge of a nuclear war while down in Vietnam ... well you all know the story. It was a time when the people freed themselves from the frowst of the past and lived a self destined life. This recording is an eye witness on historical developments. But however you behold it, it's awesome music by awesome people. This is indeed a little masterpiece and will please any fans of late 60s psychedelic sounds, die hard JEFFERSON AIRPLANE freaks and whoever cares for the best ever period in music. A must have!

    KANNIBAL KOMIX

    s/t

[engl] Changing the original artwork of an album in certain territories was common practice back in the day, but using different band names in different countries is definitely something else. Die Anderen may or may not ring the bell, what about Kannibal Komix or Apocalypse? Well, they are exactly the same artists. They got together in the north of Germany after meeting in a talent show called Beat-Band-Ball in 1966. Jürgen Drews met the members of Chimes of Freedom, the winning band, and simply asked to join them as lead guitarist. Not long after, the manager renamed the group as Die Anderen and sent them to the recording studio with the great Giorgio Moroder, Ariola's in-house producer at the time, and a whole album was made. This was obviously much earlier than Moroder's Munich Sound days, so there are no traces of Italo disco gimmicks here but good portions of fuzzy guitars instead... In fact, the anthemic Kannibal Komix song 'Neurotic Reaction', produced by Moroder in these sessions, deserves to be included on a garage compilation next to classics like 'Try It' by The Standells... Maybe this explains why they were spotted at Hamburg's Star Club and picked by some American managers to sign a deal with Colossus Records. Their almost perfect vocal harmonies and soft psych tunes spiced with a pinch of fierce guitars made the band sound very interesting for the US market but the group needed a new name: Kannibal Komix (or Apocalypse in other territories). A second album followed but nothing really happened despite rising high expectations, and the band split by the end of 1969, almost at the same time that their second album hit the shops worldwide. While 'Neurotic Reaction' would be a perfect choice for an European "nuggets" comp, there is much more to this album than just that standout track. 'Cosy Rosy' leans towards prog sounds while keeping some solid pop elements that recall the best of the British Invasion, 'Elenor' is an almost perfect match between orchestral arrangements and the dramatic voice of band leader Jürgen Drews, resulting in a three minute psych-pop delight... And the remaining nine tracks are further top quality examples of the sort of sounds that made the late 60s such an exciting time, from tender moments to raw energy, always imaginatively arranged and performed.

Along with releasing a bunch of 45s for several local labels, the band recorded lot of stuff at their own state- of- the art home studio which never saw the light of day. This retrospective features a selection from their unreleased tape archive plus rare 45 sides, 1967- 1970, including the fantastic garage- jangle 45 they recorded under the Genesis name. KIZILOK, FIKRET

    Anadolu'yum

[engl] What if Bob Dylan was also a dentist, and then he hired Keith Emerson to play keyboards on songs he wrote for a play? It happened in Istanbul, friends. Turkish folk singer Fikret Kizilok started out balancing his interest in the toothy arts with playing rhythm guitar in a Beatles knock- off band. He quickly gave both up for more serious acoustic songwriting, unveiling aged melodies and florid picking that evoked the long history of the hilly Turkish countryside. In the early 70s, while trying to recover from a period of mourning, Kizilok also hired an electric & very splashy backing band, and started throwing in prog flute and ritzy Doorsish organ rips. This collection of singles from 1971- 75 lets you taste each of Kiziloks and Anatolias many moods.

[engl] Technically his 2nd lp after a collection of singles, this benchmark record from 1974 taught Istanbuls musicians & pop fans how to put Turkish folk songs from the 17th century together with meaty, thundering guitar solos. With a crack bass player by his side (Ahmet Güvenç from Bunalim & Baris Mancos Kurtalan Ekspres) & an electrified baglama in his hands, Erkin Koray lets his gloomy baritone voice float over wiry double- reed melodies, bulging riffs, & hammer- ons that go on for- friggin- ever. KYU SAKAMOTO

    Sukiyaki And Other Japanese Hits

[engl] If you are curious how Japanese pop music sounded in the early 60s, here is one of the most popular examples. So this reissue will hopefully open new channels for fans of abundantly orchestrated 60s pop to listen to Kyu Sakamoto, who sadly perished in an aircraft accident in 1985, which is up to now the biggest event of its kind in flight history. Anyway, what do we get to hear from this man, very young but already experienced at the time? Mysterious, soulful songs with big orchestral arrangements, tunes that show elements of latin music such as bossa nova, typical elegant Doo Wop and pop ballads of the day with a heartwarming melodies, some exotic tunes that draw influence from what western people might consider Japanese music, real or fictional. The most popular tune that became a hit all over the world is certainly ?Sukiyaki?, which was a big success in a German language version by THE BLUE DIAMONDS, a Dutch band of Indonesian origin. He did not spare any style popular in the 50s up to the early 60s. You'll hear elements of chanson among many others. The whole album is relaxed and beautiful with a friendly expression. The orchestra, the big band, whoever accompanies Kyu Sakamoto dresses all the compositions sung with passion and a pliable voice into a garment of absolute elegance. This album definitely gets you to feel great and joyful and fluffy. The use of Japanese language for the lyrics might more appeal to native speakers and those with a fondness for exotic aspects coming with albums but it just makes this record even more outstanding. It's a colorful and memorable effort.
