[engl] In 2006, Jimmy Hunt (then a proverbial punk-troubadour usually found in bars) and Ysael Pepin (bassist for Demon’s Claws) started to jam here and there in one of the rooms of an apartment located above the late Zoobizarre in Montreal. Brian, Martin, and Dale eventually joined and the quintet recorded their first garage EP in two winter afternoons. Going against the ebb and flow of indie-pop, receiving praise in both languages all over Canada (La Presse, Exclaim!, Voir), Chocolat participated in the Francofolies de Montréal in 2007 and, in 2008, they were one of the first bands signed on a new label named Grosse Boîte, the French section of Dare To Care Records. They went on to release their first album, Piano élégant, which was met with great acclaim. It featured Beatle- esque melodies, a clearer sound and an addictive chanson side. During the two years that followed, between disheveled yet jolly efficient performances, Chocolat strung together shows and insolence, and even performed at the Vancouver Winter Olympic Games. Then, wanting to try something new, the band decided to take a break in the middle of 2010 and Jimmy Hunt eventually released his first solo album. Jimmy and Ysael kept contact and kept playing together, laying the foundations of an abstract project named Fantôme. Then, at the end of 2013, during the Holidays, while on a break from the tour promoting his second solo album, Maladie d’amour, Jimmy Hunt pitched some ideas on his tablet. The few demos he recorded consisted of linear sequences with drawling riffs interspersed with rhythmic breaks and rudimentary electronic effects. Realizing that Chocolat represented the ideal band to play these, Jimmy got the members together and invited his close friend Emmanuel Ethier (Jimmy Hunt, Cœur de pirate) to replace Dale who had left for Europe. After only 3 practices, Jimmy booked the Victor studio in January 2014. For a few days, the guys recorded live and full band. In general, they stuck to the second or third take for each of the tracks. This allowed them to take advantage of the spontaneity of Ysael and Brian’s garage games played on the mechanical tracks composed by Jimmy. As spring blossomed and schedules filled up, the guys managed to remotely mix what would become Tss tss, an album recorded between friends, a pop dump of white heat, a discharge of hypnotic rock, and, still under the Grosse Boîte label, an essential tool to hit the roads and travel across Quebec again.

[engl] They are from Japan, they love Powerpop and the know how to sing / write melodies!!! These three guys are living on the northernmost main island Hokkaido, right in Sapporo City, and they did one firecracker of a single back in 2010 on the Japanese label POP’N’ROLL with two songs, “Christine” and “I Can’t Stop”, those 500 copies sold out in a jiffy. We immediately sent out our A&R guys to Japan to persuade them to do a single on Bachelor! And here it is! A classic single with two songs, an uptempo kinda love song called “Hanging Up On You” and a tearjerker of a flipside called “In my Dream”! Think of classic power pop bands like RASPBERRIES, 20/20 and NERVES mixed with the latest Japanese hitmakers like RAYDIOS, TREEBERRYS and GIMMIES! Yes I know, that territory is being explored much these days, but the THE CHOOSERS really take it to a next level. Stats: 500 copies housed in a thick glued cardboard sleeve.

[engl] CHRIS PAL is the meeting of the best elements of the garage punk scene from Rennes led by Charmes Samson (COMBOMATIX) for an explosive synth-punk project. Formed in 2022 the band seems to have unearthed a time capsule prepared by Devo and Bad Brains to bring a new stone to the building of the lo-fi pantheon. The quartet delivers a first album that has nothing to envy to the best representatives of the international scene. 11 tense and melodic tracks, as punk as varied.

[engl] the Christian Family is a 2 piece band formed in Arizona and Los Angeles Ann use to play in Cherie Cherie and Daniel Shircliff in The Freaks of Nature (Related Records) as there is not actually a Trash Rock or Gospel punk Scene in Phoenix they had to create their own style, same with the shows .. this is pure outsider music so they play far away from their town they played Funtastic Dracula in Spain as well Cosmic Trip in France ,Sister Rosetta is the king and queen of rock n roll and Little Richard is the step child of gospel they say that goes hand in hand and are their heroes and they Trash it up, Every singer is preaching something, and every preacher wishes he was fuckin Elvis! You can’t avoid gospel in rock n roll. It just makes sense and comes natural mixing the Staples Family and Garage Punk from the mid 60’s. And we ain’t scared of Jesus, pretty sure we could kick his ass. The Devils too dammit! and Religion, The ultimate divider this is like 100% perfect for Punk Rock right!! why Jesus? From what we’ve read, he’s what everyone then hated. Probably a rebel. Probably a gay, punk Muslim immigrant Jew in a Ramones shirt. [engl] These Swedes are well known for 2 absolutely great albums on "Bad Afro". The Chronics improved their R&R by finding the right proportion between groove and the direct catchy side of rock. So they can set any record player on fire. They pepper their sound with a sweet dash of soul. Withi combining the two legacys of Detroit, the rock and Motown, they establish their own Rock'n'Soul. The Chronics recorded these songs exclusively for this 7".

[engl] The second Album from this Minneapolis trio -- a strikingly-hyper-punk-rock-conundrum. Seriously, Citric Dummies have a LOT to say on this LP, be it worthwhile advice or not, but it's all done with an excellent tongue-in-cheek bravado. Oh yeah, the music - it's a trebly, garage-leaning mess that seems to catapult between backing the obnoxious dual-vocal assault and ramping up the speed towards a proto-hardcore feel at times. Strangely enough, it's taken this long for a band to remind me of Henry Fiat's Open Sore (check those mad Swedes out for extra credit if you haven't!) but between the snappy arrangements and lyrical genius, Citric Dummies may very well win an endearing spot in yer collection. I get the same kinda dumb, personable feeling while listening to this as say...Angry Samoans. Real music for the proles, eh? The Dummies receive bonus points for their highly apt usage of parentheses in song titles and stunning full color artwork from Nathan Ward. Out of the ashes of Brain Tumors comes the Dummies, the Citric ones. Brain Tumors was pretty good, but man... Citric Dummies are way, way better. I really have no idea how to describe their sound... I mean it's definitely hardcore, but it has these really distinctive vocals that are kinda-sorta melodic most of the time, but often erupt into these big sing-song choruses that really don't sound like much of anything I've ever heard. Jerky punk guitar driven calamitous tunes with hyper yet clear and tuneful vocals hurling toilet lyrics and an attitude that is also of-the-toilet. Its an album! An album whose grooves are densely packed with the sounds of angry nerds propelling their rotten attitudes down deep into the basement. The punk basement.
