[engl] Sealed Records re-issue the 1985 Alternative’s album If They Treat You Like Shit - Act Like Manure originally released on Corpus Christi Records. Recorded at Southern Studios and Co-produced by Pete Wright from Crass and featuring Annie Anxiety and Pete Wright on backing vocals. The album is full of provocative protest songs with intelligent lyrics, effective use of samples, melodic tunes and dual female / male vocals. It’s urgent, passionate and memorable. A must own release from that classic mid 80’s UK anarcho punk era. Remastered from the original tapes.- Format

[engl] JJ and the A’s release their debut 6 track EP and it’s a barrage of punk nuggets that explode out of the speaker. The treble is on full and the bass down low as the Danish/Barcelona powerpunk band unleash hell and fury. This is punk from the golden eras of the late 70’s and early 80's and even a bit of early 90's from people who have been involved in hardcore scene for all of their adult lives. It’s relentless and is an absolute fireball of speed and energy. Think a mix of Gorilla Angreb, Screamers, Spits, Rip Off Records and those classic Killed by Death 7”s that now are worth thousands. Get your dancing shoes on and enjoy every last second of this gem that came out of nowhere. (Sean Forbes)- Format

I Don’t Know
[engl] A reissue of the third single on All the Madmen Records from 1980. The single was recorded at Spaceward Studios in Cambridge where The Mob, Swell Maps and Stiff little Fingers all recorded. Andy Stratton was a sixteen year old punk from Somerset who hung out with The Mob and the Yeovil punks. The drummer on this single was Graham Fallows who was still a member of The Mob at the time these two songs were recorded. Andy had never played a gig under his name but decided to go into a studio and record these two gems. I Don’t Know is a glorious punk pop nugget that has style and sass. Think a mix of the Buzzcocks’ Pete Shelley vocally Pete Fender’s only 7” Four Formulas (For The Eradication Of Microbes) and the early Good Vibrations records releases. The flip Evil Minds is a more laidback and bleak track that leans heavily on the influence of the Mob. After this 7” Andy went on to form the greatly under appreciated Null and Void.- Format

ASTARON
s/t
[engl] Astaron from Vienna Austria were a music and art performance duo made up of Angie Mörth (member of viele bunte Autos) and Martina Aichhorn who existed from 1984 to 1989. Influenced by the Viennese Actionism, Einstürzende Neubauten and Kate Bush and armed with a big dose of black humour and a true love for trash culture they created an impressively unique body of work. They released two DIY tapes, One 12” and this stunning self titled album at the tail end of 1987. It was originally released by local label Ton Um Ton Records in a criminally low pressing of 500 Copies. It’s an unadjusted highly experimental and totally addictive dark wave album with hints of minimal post punk. The music ranges from dirgelike chants to ethereal pop to haunting ballads. It’s pure melancholic beauty from start to finish. Think KUKL, Cocteau Twins, Young Marble Giants for the minimal sound, Brian Eno, Lizzy Mercier Descloux and Diamanda Galas.- Format

[engl] Karma Sutra were an anarcho pacifist band from Luton, Bedfordshire who formed in the early 80’s after the demise of the legendary the Phallic Symbols. Karma Sutra only had one release at the time - an album self released in 1987 called Daydreams of a Production Line Worker which came towards the end of their lifetime. Sealed Records now release the earlier years of demos and compilation tracks on a 15 track round up. Be Cruel with Your Past and all Who Seek to Keep you There includes their first and primitive demo The New Economy Roast from 1983. It’s very basic and has a Bullshit Detector Compilation quality to it. A few years later came the second demo Shoppers Paradise which is the best material Karma Sutra recorded. Six tracks of well produced classic 80’s Anarcho punk with a driving sound. It’s passionate, tuneful and politically aware. How this wasn’t released at the time on vinyl, is a travesty. Also included is two tracks from the Mortarhate Compilations Who? What? Why? When? Where? and We Don't Want Your Fucking Law!. Finally the last three tracks were from the final line up of the band and were recorded with Spon from UK Decay adding more post punk elements to the sound. This compilation features the unreleased four track Janice Long Session recorded for the BBC from 1988 which includes songs only heard on the broadcast plus tracks from the Stop Your Crying! 12” from 1986 a selection from the classic Sound of the Westway LP from 1985 and two tracks from the We Don’t Wanna Be Prisoners 7” from 1984. Formed in 1982 in Biel Switzerland Chin-Chin are a group that sits perfectly next to the Ramones, 60’s Girl Groups, The Shop Assistants and Blondie. The sound is instant urgent and with choruses that stick in your head for days, weeks and years. The songs are perfectly produced and have aged like a fine wine. BBC Radio Sessions
[engl] Rejoice Indie poppers, punks and pop kids – Sealed Records in conjunction with the band and BBC release all 14 tracks Dolly Mixture recorded for the BBC. You no longer have to listen to bad YouTube uploads… Here are all the tracks remastered from original sources, and as an added treat featuring John Peel introducing them and three jingles the band recorded for Kid Jensen. The first session was recorded for John Peel in August 1979 and features the unreleased ‘Dolly Mixture Theme Song’ which the band used to start gigs with and a super strong cover of Goffin and King’s ‘The Locomotion’. Four already Dolly Mixture classics from the time were also recorded including ‘Dream Come True’, ‘He’s So Frisky’, ‘New Look Baby’ and ‘Ernie Ball’. You can hear the excitement and joy and the sounds are so well recorded at Maida Vale Studios with top notch studio equipment and production. The next session from September 82 was recorded for Kid Jensen and shows a slightly more mature band, but the tracks are just as instant and lovable. These tracks have a more 60’s girl group sound but with more energy. Most people will know the tracks from the Demonstration Tapes album but these versions are better recorded and show the band moving forward. The last session from October 1983 was for Kid Jensen and again shows a band evolving but still with tunes that over forty years later are still loved and adored. All in all 14 perfectly rounded pop nuggets wrapped in a beautifully designed sleeve and poster by Paul Kelly.- Format

Remember This: The Singles Collection 1980 - 1984
[engl] 15 track album that compiles all of Dolly Mixture’s 7" and 12" released between 1980 and 1984 on Chrysalis, Respond Records, Dead Good Dolly Platters and Cordelia Records. If you bought all five original singles – you’d have no change from 200 pounds. Dolly Mixture sit somewhere between the Shangri-La’s and the Go-Go’s which appeals to Indie kids, Punks and 60’s girl group fans. Dolly Mixture toured with the Undertones, played John Peel’s 40th birthday party, recorded a wealth of true pop classics, gave U2 a support-act leg-up, wrote songs for Lena Zavaroni and influenced the whole riot grrrl movement, but floored by on-the-road illness, decooled by Captain Sensible and dismissed as ‘the Slits meet the Nolans’ by a UK music industry too hung up on black leather hipness.- Format

[engl] Sealed Records release the complete remastered ICONOCLAST Discography including the immense self released 1983 Demo, The Flipside 7? from 1985 plus Two Compilation tracks. It’s a small but perfectly formed discography and one that 36 years after it was first recorded still has power, intensity and rage. ICONOCLAST were part of the early 80’s American peace punk scene that included CRUCIFIX, BODY COUNT, AGAINST, ANOTHER DESTRUCTIVE SYSTEM, DIATRIBE, ARMISTICE and A STATE OF MIND. Idealistic bands highly influenced by CRASS which shined amongst the heavily nihilistic California Punk scene of the era. ICONOCLAST sound was in tune with DISCHARGE, early ANTISECT or WRETCHED while lyrically the songs were political and to the point. They played benefits for animal rights, anti nuclear, anti apartheid, anti police brutality, and Big Mountain. The demo was followed by their only vinyl release on Flipside which has two ragers and the more mellow In These Times which has a touch of THE MOB and OMEGA TRIBE about it. The band had tracks on various compilations including the seminal International P.E.A.C.E. Benefit LP on R Radical in 1984 which had the cream of the crop of international hardcore punk of the heyday.- Format

Cry
[engl] First time reissue of the totally unknown and lone 7” from the North East of England’s Model Workers. Originally released in 1981 on their own Make it Yourself label, and issued in three different coloured sleeves, the original two track 7” is as rare as it is great. This reissue adds two further songs from the ‘Model Workmanship’ demo from 1980, making it a classic four track EP. Model Workers deal in angular pop with a clear punk edge, with lead track ‘My Winter of Discontent’ being a pure DIY gem that is tight and jangly, and has the same feel as an early Television Personalties or The Times 7” or even a home recorded demo by the Jam. Had it been a Whaam! label release back in the day, Model Workers would have been a household name. But as it turned out Model Workers lifespan was short, burying the band into obscurity and turning the record into a DIY want list staple for 40 years. This reissue comes in an 8 page booklet sleeve including paper clips, band pictures and other band’s ephemera.- Format

NEWTOWN NEUROTICS
Kick Out!
[engl] Formed in 1979 in new town Harlow, The Newtown Neurotics are one of the most under rated but essential punk bands. Kick Out! is a 15 track round up of their first six singles taking in the years 1979 to 1984. The first two singles Hypocrite and When The Oil Runs Out were melodic nuggets released on their own No Wonder label. Both of these singles were written prior to the election of the Thatcher monster. The horror of this event changed what was the non-political writing style of Steve's lyrics into the other extreme, and so in June 1982 Kick Out The Tories was released on CNT records. Sadly 38 years later, the lyrics are most poignant and needed than ever. The band continued releasing single after single from the painfully personal to the politically pertinent, all done with intelligence and style. Also included is Andy Is A Corporatist / Mindless Version taken from the Son of Oi! compilation. The album comes with a 32 page booklet of archive - photos, reviews, interviews and more and was conceived to be released alongside the Documentary of the same name about the band's history.- Format

Organized Chaos were masters of driving UK82 punk with tin pot drums, buzzsaw guitars and snarling vocals. If the band had released an album at the time they could have easily been as influential as Chaos UK or Disorder. How this band didn’t have a Riot City release is anyone’s guess. Simple meat and potatoes UK82 punk for those who still hate Thatcher, are worried about a nuclear war and despise the system.- Format

[engl] 19 track round up of demos from The Partisans who formed in Bridgend, South Wales in 1978 and ended up being one of the cream of the UK82 punk movement. The first side of the LP has 10 tracks recorded in April 1980 in one day and like bands in their early years – it features mainly covers. It includes songs from the Sex Pistols, Stiff Little Fingers, UK Subs, Buzzcocks, UK Subs, Cockney Rejects and yes even more UK Subs. It also has primitive and raw versions of future Partisans classics No Time and I Don’t Give a Fuck. This demo has never been heard or released in any form. Less than a year later, February 1981 with Savage leaving and Louise joining on bass, the band have their most well know line up and are in full flow with a 6 track demo that was sent to No Future Records. It’s not surprising the label snapped them up straight away as the recordings are high energy and full of anthemic gems. The label released Police Story and Killing Machine as the debut 7” direct from these recordings. The other four tracks from this demo have never been released on vinyl. The last three tracks on the LP are the demos from 1982 recorded for No Future for the 17 Years of Hell Single. Rawer and more punk than the actual well know versions. All members of the bands helped in this release and shared original masters from which everything was remastered plus archive from their own personal collections including photos galore, handouts, ticket stubs, interviews etc which are included in the 28 Page Booklet.- Format

Cacophony
[engl] Cacophony is the second Rudimentary Peni album. Released after the band returned from their first hiatus following a series of personal events that changed the band forever. The thirty track LP keeps turning heads 34 years after its release. Far from writing another “Death Church” the band embarked on a truly bizarre quest. To record an album based on the life and writings of horrors absolute king H.P. Lovecraft. A dense cacophony of total free songwriting. Dark, gothic, intricate, unexpected head-scratching punk. The short bursts of music twist and turn at every corner – the vocals are part classic Blinko and part spoken word, the guitar is full of distorted awkward tones and the every inventive bass and drums are locked together creating a truly unique album. Cacophony is the benchmark of outsider Punk and the influence and cult nature of this album grows with every passing year. This reissue stays close to the original version, with Nick Blinko’s incredible cover art, including a 11” x 11” 8-page lyric booklet.- Format

Death Church
[engl] The words legendary, seminal, and classic get thrown around at will these days, but Rudimentary Peni’s debut album is all of them. Recorded over two days at Southern Studios by John Loder and originally released in 1983 by Crass off-shoot label Corpus Christi, Death Church showed a band moving away from the urgency of their two early 7”s and into their own realm. Creating a template that bands have been trying to replicate ever since, while ticking all the boxes to become a genre-defining album. Iconic artwork, a unique sound and their own lyrical universe. All merging seamlessly. Sonically the album is full of Nick Blinko’s extraordinary vocals and equally remarkable guitar, Grant Matthews’ big meandering driving basslines and Jon Greville's tight and relentless drum work which together made something intricate and hard hitting, with a sequence that makes the 21 songs on the album flow perfectly. Visually, the album is every outsider art lover’s wet dream. A six-panel poster sleeve with every inch covered in Nick Blinko’s claustrophobic black and white line drawings, while lyrically the songs deal with madness, religion, death, and questioning humankind from a dark poetic place rarely found in any art form.- Format

Great War
[engl] Recorded several years ago before Rudimentary Peni engaged in another mysterious hiatus, Great War has finally emerged to kiss the gas-tinged light of a mustered morn. Expanding on the skeletal sounds and subject of 2009's “Wilfred Owen” single the band has seen fit to concentrate on a more mechanized approach doing away with even more of the humanizing aspects in their music this time delivering ten painful familiar shards fraught with brittle anxiety and anguished simplicity. Great War cements new phase in the ever-crawling metamorphic madness that is Rudimentary Peni. The record comes with brand new Nick Blinko Artwork on the sleeve and Inner Sleeve. (Jensen Ward) “Belfast” was originally released in 1987 on Vocalist Roy Wallace’s Belfast Records and has been out of print for 30 years. It was a compilation of previously released tracks and newly recorded versions of old tracks with Dino and Gary from D.I.R.T doing the female vocal parts and guitars. The 12 tracks on “Belfast” are nuggets of raging pissed off DIY anarcho punk with hard hitting lyrics and dual vocals. The recordings are raw and passionate and stand the test of time. The band released an iconic split 12” with STALAG 17 on Mortarhate (1985) – the tracks are included on “Belfast” and then the following year a split LP called We will be Free with STALAG 17 and ASYLUM before calling it a day and becoming a lost piece of the anarcho punk puzzle. This reissue comes with replica sleeve and fold-out lyric insert.- Format

Pope Adrian 37th Psychristiatric
[engl] Pope Adrian 37th Psychristiatric is the third LP by RUDIMENTARY PENI. Recorded in 1992 but not released until 1995, it was the first music the band recorded after their already leftfield Cacophony album. It is an underrated and difficult masterpiece of truly outsider music. Full of harrowing and morbid songs based on repetition, repetition and repetition, pushing the listener into a trance like mood. Pope Adrian 37th Psychristiatric shows the most experimental side of RUDIMENTARY PENI testing the punk song concept, turning it into a mantra chant at times while sounding like only RUDIMENTARY PENI could. The album opens with lead track ‘Pogo Pope’, which sets the tone, with Blinko repeatedly singing ‘Pogo Pope’ ad nauseam, and the whole of the album has a continual loop of the phrase 'Popus Adrianus’ running through its entirety. At the time Nick Blinko was experiencing severe delusions and believed that he was Pope Adrian the 37th and was detained in a psychiatric hospital under Section 3 of the 1983 Mental Health Act. The album is unhinged and challenging but 100% pure and idiosyncratic. This official reissue comes on a single sleeve with printed inner and 16 page booklet with Nick Blinko artwork and has been remastered from the original tapes by Arthur Rizk.- Format

Belfast
[engl] TOXIC WASTE represent the hardest end of the CRASS milieu. While most anarcho-punk bands of the time sang about a war they’d only seen on TV TOXIC WASTE were being politically active in Belfast during the troubles. They played militant punk with melody and aggression. Borderline hardcore at times with a clear peace-punk message. Angry, intense and in your face. They were involved in the Warzone Collective and shared stages, experiences and activism with bands such as STALAG 17, CONFLICT , ASYLUM and ANTISECT. “Belfast” was originally released in 1987 on Vocalist Roy Wallace’s Belfast Records and has been out of print for 30 years.

Straight Out Of The Fridge
[engl] "Suddenly it’s ok to be a square” – Twelve Cubic Feet, a clear case of a band which should have been bigger than the Beatles but, for some malignant reason, became a blurry foot note on the underground music history. Formed from the ashes of Exhibit A in the Spring of 1981 the band disappeared leaving no trace shortly after 1983. During their brief existence they released a series of stickers, a monthly newsletter, two cassette tapes and their incomparable Straight Out Of The Fridge 10”, which was at the very top of our dream records to release since we started Sealed Records. Twelve Cubic Feet released this perfect 22 minute 7 track album in 1982 on Namedrop Records (home to Doof, Philip Johnson and Cold War and ran by Philip Johnson and 12CF guitarist Paul Platypus). It is a a glorious scratchy DIY indie pop gem with a post punk spirit. The sound is naive and fragile yet very addictive. Based around jangly clean guitars, drums that are on the edge of falling apart, haunting keyboards and a female vocalist that has a knack for a golden pop hook. Hard not to fall in love with. It’s beautiful with a ragged charm that deserves to be heard by the masses. Anarcho Indie pop anyone?? The band played a lot of the anarcho punk haunts of the early 80’s – Autonomy Centre in Wapping, Centro Iberico and London Music Collective and were equally heralded by punks (Andy Martin from The Apostles released one of their tapes) and the DIY music crowd. The line up changed after the 10” and they recorded a Joe Foster produced demo and fell in with Alan McGee’s Communication Club crowd. Twelve Cubic Feet burned bright for just a handful of years and now it’s time to burn bright again. Hopefully this reissue will help them reverse one of their sticker statements “today we’re nobodies but tomorrow you’ll know who we are”. This reissue 12” comes with the 16 page booklet that came with the original 10?. Twelve Cubic Feet feature members who did time in bands such as Khmer Rouge, The Reflections, Solid Space, Doof and What Is Oil? Amongst others. For fans of the Marine Girls, Girls at our Best, Hornsey At War, Swell Maps and Postcard Records.- Format

Groucho Marxist Record Co:Operative
[engl] London. New York. Paris. Paisley? Paisley, a well-aimed gob’s distance from Glasgow, was teeming with creativity, agitprop and rage in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Everything you ever loved about punk, in expression in its purest form, in DIY fuck off I’ll do what I want attitude, was slammed down onto four 7”s on the Groucho Marxist label between 1979 and 1981. Unheralded, unknown, uncaring and unbelievable. This LP compiles the four 7”s released by the label which was small but perfectly formed. The label, run by printer Tommy Kayes a member of a Clydeside Anarchist group, openly nailed its politics to each release with ties to Rock Against Racism and a strong anti police sentiment. Musically the Groucho Marxists were all over the place, trying to figure out what punk was about. XS DISCHARGE give us six tracks across the compilation which range from the PUBLIC IMAGE LIMITED esque ‘Frustration’ to the uptempo 1977 foot to the floor punk rock classics ‘Hassles’ and ‘Lifted’. DEFIANT POSE are the other mainstays with three tracks including the CLASH inspired “After the Bang’ which sounds urgent and uplifting whilst ‘Fight’ is a glorious raw UNDERTONES style nugget. Also included are the abstract art noise of the pre-COIL/STRAWBERRY SWITCHBLADE group THE POEMS and the URBAN ENEMIES who cut ‘Who do you Hate’ would have made a perfect Good Vibrations 7”. Please don’t forget the other tracks from MOD CONS, SNEEX, THE MENTOL ERRORS and THE FEGS – all deserve your attention and are perfect examples of amateur DIY punk. That such a fertile, colourful scene of freaks and geeks could be bubbling away out of the glare of popularity is a lesson to us all: Life’s too short, do what you want. Or as XS DISCHARGE would have it: Life’s A Wank. The LP comes accompanied by a massive 40 page 11×11 inch booklet of archival material. No stone was left unturned in the quest to document this incredible micro scene,. Nearly 45 years after the fact we can shed some light onto a truly cult local scene.- Format

Can't Cheat Karma
[engl] The second release on Sealed Records is a 14 Track round up of the five singles by Zounds. The debut single from 1980 Can’t Cheat Karma was released on Crass Records and 39 Years later still stands as one of the finest singles both politically and musically. For the next three singles Zounds released them on Rough Trade Records, along with their debut album The Curse of Zounds. 1981’s Demystification was a tense and stark masterpiece. It was followed by the haunting Mikey Dread-produced Dancing and then the more straight up pop of More Trouble Coming Everyday. The final single of Zounds was La Vacht Qui Rit released on Belgium label Not So Brave in 1983 and was originally supposed to be a split single with The Mob but ended up with two scratchy studio tracks and two rough and raw live tracks recorded in Holland in 1982. Every home should have these essential Zounds recordings.- Format
