    MUNSON, ALAN

    First light

[engl] And heres the last of the 70s works by our friend Munson! This one got released in 1979, again in small quantities, on the Parallax label in California. The First light album doesn?t easily fit into a music category box. The songs range from psych rock, to some fairly ?laid back? folk- rock, and even a song with a country rock feel. Instruments played on the record include electric and acoustic guitars, electric bass and drums. Lead solos are all played on electric guitar; a ?clean? sound on the acoustic based songs and guitar effects were used on the psych rock songs. Strong lead vocals and background harmony vocals, making this another excellent album as a result. Also one unreleased bonus track is added, all remastered from the original tapes. First time ever reissue as well, the CD comes with a booklet, and outer carton slimcase.

    MUNSON, ALAN

    Good morning world

[engl] Alan Munson, the songwriter of Cooley- Munson duo, continued the folk- rock way. It took him some time, but in 1975 he was ready for what is (for him, and for me too), his best 70s work. We at Guerssen believe this is a killer album!!! Incredibly, ?Good morning world? was only released in cassette, and in a limited run?.so I bet no one of you has this yet! Under these circumstances, I?m so glad to put this out at last the way it should be (and also on CD, fine), and I?m sure you our beloved customers will appreciate this too!!! Good morning world? includes nine original, acoustic based songs with a mellow psych and folk rock sound across this album. Meaningful and understandable lyrics, delivered by ?close- up? lead vocals, and background harmony vocals. Instruments played on the album include 6 string acoustic guitar, 12 string acoustic guitar, electric bass and percussion. Song arrangements include multiple guitar harmony lead solos and fills. Limited 500 copies vinyl pressing comes with an insert with linernotes and unseen photos.

    ONE WAY TICKET

    Time is right

[engl] Behind this obscure and mysterious British late- sixties psych record, we find the team of producers Brian Carroll and Damon Lyon- Shaw, famous for their involvement with mod- psych bands like Factory and Five Day Rain. During the late sixties, they also recorded some tracks of their own at the legendary IBC studios and produced a bunch of underground groups for their Homegrown company. Basically, instead of a real group, One Way Ticket was in fact a mixture of various recordings from bands that Carroll and Lyon- Shaw had been involved with producing through Homegrown during 1968, along with some recordings of their own. For some strange reason, all of these recordings surfaced many years later, when they were gathered and released as a budget pressing album, featuring a mysterious cover art and made- up liner notes & credits, under the One Way Ticket name on the President label in 1978. Musically, its an odd album which ranges from late- sixties underground psych in the Chocolate Soup vein to freaky blues- psych not unlike Olivers Standing Stone? with some glam- mod- psych and rockin? tunes. It even features three tracks also covered by the legendary Five Day Rain on their rare album. Reissued with original artwork and remastered sound.

    ORANG-UTAN

    Orang-Utan

[engl] Orang- Utan were in fact a London based band called Hunter, featuring vocalist Terry ''Nobby'' Clarke (of psych- pop legends Jason Crest), guitar player Mick Clarke, drummer and songwriter Jeff Seopardi and bass player Paul Roberts. They recorded their sole album in 1971 and DeLane Lea studios. In a bizarre twist of events, their producers / managers ran with the tapes to the US, where they placed the album on Bell Records under a new band name: Orang- Utan, without telling any of the band members. A lost classic of blazing, early hard rock with minor psychedelic hangover vibes, a twin- guitar attack, and waves of fuzz/wah, along with powerful vocals. Think Leaf Hound, Budgie, Bang, Sir Lord Baltimore, Hard Stuff? First ever legit reissue done in co- operation with the original band members. Insert with liner notes by Jeremy Cargill (Ugly Things / Got Kinda Lost), telling the bizarre story of the band for the first time, and rare photos.

    OSIRIS

    Osiris

[engl] First ever vinyl reissue of this prog/psych masterpiece by cult Arabian band Osiris, their first album originally released in 1982. A killer blend of 70s sounding hard progressive / psychedelic sounds with long ripping Mini- Moog & analog synth attacks smashed into mellow vibes & Arabian folky touches, hard lead guitar, exotic percussion, floating rhythm section, English vocalsFormed in the tiny Bahrain (Persian Gulf) in the late 70s, the Osiris story goes back to 1969, when talented brothers Mohamed and Nabil Alsadeqi formed a funk / rock band named Witch. The band broke up when Mohamed left to pursue his studies in Texas, while his brother Nabil left for London. Upon returning to Bahrain in 1 the two brothers decided to form the first progressive rock from Bahrain. It was not easy to find similar minded musicians in their town but they succeeded with help from Mohammed Shafii (bass), Sami Al- Jamea (keyboards), Mohamed Amin Kooheji (guitar, bass, vocals) and Abdul Razzak Aryan (second keyboards). Mohamed and Nabil began working out an original repertoire which would fuse musical complexity, melodic richness and Arab culture. They chose the name OSIRIS from Egyptian mythology not only for its sound but also for its references to Arab culture, youth and fertility. But the definitive Osiris line- up came up when they added a charismatic singer named Isa Janahi. Osiris made their live debut at the end of 1981. Isa wore flashing coloured clothes and capes and captivated the audience with his presence on stage. The group also used lasers, a light show and smoke, bombs, all deftly handled by friends of the band. ''Osiris'' was recorded at the only 8- track studio in Bahrain at the time. It was recorded and mixed in just three days. As there wasn't any record pressing plant in Bahrain, the band had to press the albums in Philippines. 1000 copies were sold locally at Bahrain but a few made it their way to USA and the UK, appearing in some rare records list by ''those in the know''. Osiris music will not only please those into classic prog- rock in the Camel, Yes or Pink Floyd vein but also those for looking for exotic psychedelic sounds and beats.

    PIG RIDER

    Bloody Turkey Sandwiches

[engl] Bloody Turkey Sandwiches'''' is another ultra- rarity by British psychedelic folk band Pig Rider: only six copies were originally privately pressed by custom label Deroy in 1974. The music here is much in the same vein as their famous ''''Heterophonies'''' album but even more crazed. Some of the tracks bring to mind the more experimental side of Olivia Tremor Control / Black Swan Network or even They Might Be giants ?but only 20 years before those bands existed! Electric acid folk with stoned homemade atmosphere, lo- fi sound, bizarre & funny lyrics, effects, backward bits, surreal humour, psychedelic skiffle and old- timey music hall parodies, brilliant folk- rock- pop and titles like ''''Interdrive Overstella'''', ''''Be Glad For The Song Has An Ending'''', ''''Pus In Our Time'''' and ''''Have you seen your neighbour in the bath''''. PIG RIDER

    Heterophonies

[engl] Although nearly 60 people have played in Pig Rider or its various offshoots over the years, there have only been two ever- present members, Colin Kitchener and John Mayes, who founded the band at Sevenoaks School in Kent, England in the late 60s. They met when they were 12, and not long after began haunting the music rooms at the school to hammer out current three- chord pop songs on pianos. After a number of other names (including D Jabferg Flossyakkit and Bob Scratch and his Country and South Eastern Spring Blues Band) they settled on 'The Pig Rider Robinson Heterophony' to perform under. After an attempt to build a seven- foot robot bassist called Peregrine Robinson to front the band failed the name was finally abbreviated to its current form. Pig Rider's music has been described as ''joke folk / mock rock'' and although they claim that their minds were only altered by lot of beer drinking, there's a real psychedelic element to it. Also, they should be regarded as pioneers of the DIY movement which would came a few years later. They recorded at home with rudimentary equipment, they used handmade modified instruments (''orgasmatron'', ''banjelele'', ''torture machine'', ''aquaphone'', ''swanee bicycle pump''?) and they self- released a series of acetate only albums housed in primitive, handmade sleeves. ''Heterophonies'' was originally pressed by the custom label Deroy as a private edition of five acetates in 1975. The music is an amazing mix of psychedelic electric folk, acid folk and twisted pop with funny / bizarre lyrics, tape experimentation, effects and homemade / stoned atmosphere.

    PIG RIDER

    The Robinson Scratch Theory

[engl] Bedroom / lo- fi psychedelia by these unsung heroes from the 80s DIY cassette culture scene. From outsider synth- pop to Barrett- esque lysergic folk, from lo- fi garage- punk to basement prog: acid- fuzz guitars, cheap keyboards, primitive electronics, homemade vibe and bizarre, funny lyrics. Pig Rider were formed in Kent, UK, in the late 60s by John Mayes and Colin Kitchener. With the help from some friends they recorded and self- released a series of acetate only psych- folk albums in the mid- 70s (''Heterophonies'', ''Bloody Turkey Sandwiches''?) which are prime examples of early DIY psychedelic music, highly sought- after since a review of ''Heterophonies'' appeared on the Galactic Ramble book. In 2013, collector Alexandre Mansuy (from the influential ''Somewhere There Is Music'' blog), having only listened to their ''Heterophonies'' album, found John and Colin and was astonished when they told him their story: ''Heterophonies'' was only one of their many, many great recordings, 22 in all, including 45s, acetates and tapes. Those included complete, and to date unperformed, opera for schools, a song- cycle about Luton, a town they knew nothing about; songs designed to be played backwards, songs which are slightly offensive and others which are too offensive to play at all, anywhere, ever.
