And hit you like five coffees in the morning and a few shots of cognac at night. The Limboos just perfected the recipe on their new album, Baia (Penniman Records, 2019). The Limboos do what they wanna do. They know what they like and they know what you like even though that might be two different things. They work in their own rhythm and it’s proven you can move to that rhythm. Everybody lost a few bucks at the end of the night but nobody cares. Everybody woke up a little tired and achy and didn’t feel like going to work. But they did and did it even harder the next three times that week. Lucky you caught them on a Monday night. With Baia, their third album in five years, The Limboos will transport you, without asking, to a sweet and viscous spiritual ceremony that crosses paths between Chicago from Santiago de Cuba. This new one, again produced by Mike Mariconda and with 100% of their own songs, you get 11 new lessons in class and sweaty elegance. Check the single “Where Did She Go?” and see. You’ll just dance and maybe fall down from exhaustion and make you do things you swore you would never do. [engl] Write a fistful of cool songs, recruit the right musicians, practice a lot, make a great single, get a van and wait for the phone to ring. That's the old formula which all "would-be-somebodys" in this business continue to use. But it always seems to fail at some point, usually the phone ringing part. But The Limboos worked this strategy perfectly. Within months, and only on the merit of one single, the band has garnered tremendous reviews, turning the road into their home and the scene into their office. On this album, their first LP, they sharpen and expand on the sound defined on their 45 RPM single debut- that mixture of R&B and Latin rhythms, aptly described as "exotic Rhythm and Blues", continues to prevail. But the twelve songs on the LP stretch out into deeper territory- old school New Orleans second line (the single from the album, "Big Chef") or gutbucket 50s Texas Blues ("Rockin'") combined with Cuban rhythms ("Space Mambo", the title track) or Brazilian Cumbia ("Brownie"). All beautifully thrown into a blender, making it the national cocktail of a place you would damn sure want to live, if that place even existed. Talent, attitude and energy- these are the three ingredients that define The Limboos to perfection. Above all, they are elegant and adept at any language they speak. Coupled with the profound production of Mike Mariconda, "Space Mambo" is noticeably fresh in comparison with much of today’s music and a unique listening sensation.

[engl] Steve Linnegar was an accomplished songwriter, musician, painter and martial arts disciple. A legendary figure from the South African 60s- 70s underground music scene, the ''hippie king of Cape Town'' formed the Snakeshed band in the 70s along with top guitar player Martin Kopelowitz and keyboardist / producer Peter Hubner. Refusing offers from some record labels who insisted they should go ''commercial'', they decided to record and release their first album, ''Classic Epics'', all by themselves.

[engl] Psychedelic hard- rock featuring the explosive fuzz- wah guitar of Peter Illingworth (ex- David John & The Mood). Little Free Rock were an underground British power- trio which evolved from heavy- mod- psych band Purple Haze. In 1969, the band released their only album for the Transatlantic label. A rather disappointing effort for the band and their fans, as the ultra- clean production did not show the real, powerful sound of the power- trio. Nirvanating Nervesounds? collects previously unreleased sessions for an aborted Little Free Rock second album from 1971, produced by Robert Stigwood, plus tracks from their early incarnation as Purple Haze, taken from an ultra- rare demo acetate from 1969.

[engl] Logos ''Firesides and Guitars'' was one of the most enigmatic private albums from the US. Housed in a sparse cover with little info, it was released in tiny quantities on the collectable Audio House label (home also of Smack). Nothing was known about the band until now: they were an obscure folk- rock trio from Kansas, comprised of 16- year- old Steve Epley plus brothers Chris and Cindy Williams. Their sound was charming, home- made folk- rock full of youthful innocence with layers of dual acoustic guitars and refreshing male- female vocals, featuring an impressive set of self- penned songs. Comparisons bring to mind Crosby Still & Nash or Shadrack Chameleon.

[engl] Dave Madden and Peter Harris were a teacher / pupil folk duo from Sidney who in 1975 recorded and self- released this progressive / psychedelic folk- rock masterpiece. British influenced sound with lots of mellotron, vintage keyboards, strings, drums, fuzz bursts, dreamy vocals, etc, containing an impressive 20- minute long suite which has to be heard to be believed.

[engl] Hideously rare 1969 album by this US band. Psychedelic and bluesy West Coast sound with ripping fuzz guitar much in the vein of Crazy Horse, Quicksilver, ?Vindicator? era Arthur Lee and the likes. The 12- minutes long ?I?ll just play?, full of endless dual guitar attacks & effects is the ultimate acid- rock jam!

[engl] From 1975, this is Baris Manços masterpiece. Stunning cosmic, psychedelic, groovy conceptual album with fantastic electronics use and a strong Turkish folk flavour as usual. Legit deluxe release. Comes with the original gatefold cover, reproduction of the full colour booklet, and insert with extensive linernotes. 350g carton cover, 180g vinyl.

[engl] One of the leading Turkish rock musicians ever and one of the most influent, along with Erkin Koray, Edip Akbayram and Cem Karaca. This is his first longplayer, released in 1971 by Sayan Productions. It's a compilation of tracks taken from previously released 45s, plus the track ''Lory'' that only appeared on this album. Killer psych rock with strong Turkish flavour, this features Baris' all- time classics like ''Derule'' or ''Daglar Daglar'', as well as the brutal wah- wah flooded ''Küçük bir gece müzigi'' with its infectious drumming that drives mad anyone searching for sampling stuff. Not to be confused with two different releases with the same name that actually have different tracklist and artwork, this is the real album as it was originally released, for the first time having the vinyl reissue treatment for your big pleasure. In addition, this will also include an insert with great shots of Baris.

[engl] In 1976, Baris released his third album which was actually also a compilation of songs previously released in 45s, as happened with his debut. For this LP release, and basically because of contractual reasons, we are presenting you this compilation with a few changes: two of the original songs are not there, and we added four new ones. So, what we get here is a scorchin? collection of funky psychedelics Turkish way that will knock you out. Big Baris beats them all, the King of Anadolu Pop!!! Remastered sound, insert with linernotes and photos. 180gr vinyl.

[engl] The late 70s found Turkey in an economic slump, and there was a huge rise in political violence. Baris, who so often put out collections of singles, rose to the occasion by spending 6 months holed up with his longtime backing band the Kurtalan Ekspres. The result was this studio album of Anatolian bummer psychedelia, often unfairly overlooked because it came out in the rather un- cosmic year of 1979, but also considered his best work by many. Yep, there are still electrified versions of Turkish folk songs, and the spaceshot ARPs & Korgs of 2023 are here too, but dont expect a happy swing around the ceiling of a planetarium. The real star of the album is the keyboard player, whose name translates to Sword Agent. Yeni Bir Gun is viciously funky & brilliantly arranged, with tidbits stolen out of the latest disco hits, & lean, mean synthesizers that emerge from the beats like carbonated bubbles. Melancholy maqams & catastrophic Korgs collide when the Turkish psych master glides unflinchingly into the grim late 70s!! First time ever reissue, this release comes in gorgeous gatefold cover as the original, has a repro of the original poster as well, and brings an extra insert with extensive linernotes.

[engl] Ray McKay Pierle started recording his own songs in 1974 and in 1977 he released his first album, ?Into You?, which is one of the finest West Coast / rural- rock private pressing ever. ?A New Light Shines? collects previously unreleased tracks recorded at home between 1974 and 1979. The overall sound here is more psychedelic, raw and loose than what you can hear on his other albums, ?Into You? and ?Take Two? but you can expect the same kind of laid- back sound, top- level songwriting, Neil Young- esque vocals and outlaw guitars. [engl] In 2013 we released the celebrated ''A New Light Shines'' by McKay, an album comprised of unreleased recordings by this master of rural psychedelic sounds. ''Into You (Take Two)'' includes previously unreleased tracks recorded in 1975- 79 by the same cast of musicians who recorded ''Into You'', the legendary first McKay private album.
