    KANDODO

    K3

[engl] Brand new studio full length from Bristol based sike-o-nauts, orbiting in the Heads’ realm and led by Heads’ Simon Price. k3 continues the trajectory of outer space excursions found on previous kandodo releases. Out of focus, relaxed and expansive vibes fuse together into serpentine rivers of minimalist rhythms and echoed tones, drawing the listener into tunnels of sound and scorched sonic landscapes. It's one for the headphones at 30,000 feet or late night deserted drives. k3 finds three heads taking time out to dive into the dronal repetitions of deep space, 3 psychonauts killing time in the only way they know how; head-nodding drumfuzz layered with creamed strings. Guest guitar from fellow sike-head John McBain on the final half of the 40 minute trip which makes up sides 3 and 4. k3 takes the autobahn, veering left past the sun and heading on till morning. There are no black holes 'cos we're in it: just do the half. The colours will come back with the dawn. Settle in for the long haul and …..

    KANDODO

    theendisinpsych

[engl] The Heads’ Simon Price returns to his kandodo project with 'theendisinpsych'; "primitive pieces of psychedelic tuneage+years of wasted time=43 minutes of headphone bliss." It's the follow up to the 2019 collaboration with Wayne Maskell and Hugo Morgan, Kandodo 3 – K3, but this time back in solo-mode. He is now relocated in Northumbria, and has recorded the album himself in his home studio, drawing on his wide collection of music/instruments and the rural environment for inspiration. The new album fizzes and crackles with a verve that will activate the “turn on, tune in, drop out” sense in all listeners… Simon explained the album in a focused/out of focus track by track way… is this Price’s paean to his obsession with Bowie? comes with african/stationtostation artwork stylings for the sleeve..pre-apocalypse blues (and pinks), the world isn't going a good way a sumptuous 4 course sonic supper, tuck in.

    KEDAMA

    Live at Sunrise Studios

[engl] Swiss heavy–prog / kraut monster from 1976, originally released as a private, hand–made edition of 200 copies. Long instrumental / experimental tracks fuelled by Mellotron, Hammond, Minimoog, ripping distorted guitar and heavy drums. RIYL: King Crimson, Egg, Fusioon, Supersister, Jonesy, Gentle Giant, Tetragon, Siloah... Kedama came from St. Gallen in the north–eastern corner of Switzerland, near the Bodensee (only a few km from Germany and Austria). Their name was inspired by Ketama, Morocco (famous for its cannabis fields). They were amongst the first bands (probably the first) to record at Etienne Conod’s legendary Sunrise Studios, using the "kunstkopf" artificial head system. Unfortunately, the lack of experience with this new system resulted in a kinda thin sound on the album. This new reissue vastly improves the depth of the recording. "Live At Sunrise Studios" comprises four long instrumental tracks, two on each side of the LP. A digital download card is included, featuring the "Live At Sunrise Studios" album plus seven bonus tracks taken from unreleased studio sessions and the compilation "Perspectives". This is essential stuff, from the weird psych–funk of "Hwrlnzg" to the sitar–drenched "Improvisations".

    KNEI

    III

    KOOLAID (GLOBAL TYRANNY)

    s/t

[engl] So, we get a tape of this in the post, yes, a tape, and thought it was pretty wild, then heard nothing?then we get a CDR, well two of them, some mix cassette, and a CD containing some OTT modern day Pop Art sleeve design that is retina rubbling!?.with a scrawled note claiming, "when you put the record out, you have to limit it to 500 LPs with a bonus free CD version that has a different mix of the music on it, NO Downloads whatsoever, and while your are at it, make some giveaway cassettes up of the mixtape we sent to go with it, and the sleeve has to be wrap-around, like it could be a poster, on thicker card too, full colour mind!?we are Koolaid (Global Tyranny) on this record?send us some copies when its done"?.well that was telling us, so we had to put the record out. We listened to the CD again; it was bonkers, some wild psychedelic noise stomping round the room, meshed with some dark samples, really heavy and LIVE drums, almost a non stop mix of edge-of-the-seat paranoiac scuzz, with loops that pulse through the entire record. Like a modern day mix of the avant pop samplings and cut-up wizardry of Negativland, the obscure fractal pop psychedelic rock of the West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band, some of the white hot guitar of the Stooges / Loop variety, and a primal beat /rhythm that could have been lifted from Cro-Magnon.. We started putting the RSD 2011 12" together, when another missive arrived, this time the message was simpler?"when's our LP coming out? And can you put this out too, we are Koolaid (Alien Ballroom) on this track?", that was a crunchy, noisy version of Daft Punk's "Da Funk", and nothing like this album..we put it on the RSD Agitated 12" release.. they fitted in well.. And no, we have no idea who is in the collective, band, or whatever they are or might be..in a way, that makes this even greater?. For fans of? Ask for a CDr, don't be scared? and ask for a CDr copy of the mixtape, it's a great slice of what might make these guys tick? 500 copies only on vinyl, in deluxe wraparound colour sleeve, with CD version (of diff mixes of the four tracks) and a mixtape.

    LIGHTDREAMS

    Islands In Space

[engl] “…we can make [enough] progress inside our heads and the heads of our friends to lay the foundations of an intergalactic life more meaningful than our earthbound condition…” – John Peel, International Times Mirroring the sentiment of the prescient UK radio legend in his Vibrations column for the International Times in the ‘70s, LightDreams leader Paul Marcano took one further step beyond his intimate colleagues and chose to spread his ideals concerning peaceful outer space colonization to all with open ears. Islands In Space, dotted with acoustic jams, backwards guitars, lyrics alluding to the British progressive era, smoking hot electric leads, synths galore, and the dreamiest of melodies, is both Marcano’s love letter to the work of science-fiction author Gerard K. O’Neill and the psych-tinged folk explorers who came before him such as McDonald & Giles. Originally privately-issued in 1981 in an edition of 1,000 copies, Islands In Space explores space travel and cosmic ideology making for a sci-fi psych odyssey and is filled with atmospheric, lysergic creations atop a hybrid of sounds from the cosmic-psych/progressive-folk/new age spectrum. Home-recorded (yet hi-fi), Islands In Space carries a singular quality, defies easy categorization and has long been savored over by collectors of otherworldly joys. Got Kinda Lost Records is absolutely ecstatic to allow this singular, beatific work another chance to shine from Earth’s surface to the outer reaches of the galaxy.

    LINNEGAR'S SNAKESHED, STEVE

[engl] Steve Linnegar was an accomplished songwriter, musician, painter and martial arts disciple. A legendary figure from the South African 60s- 70s underground music scene, the ''hippie king of Cape Town'' formed the Snakeshed band in the 70s along with top guitar player Martin Kopelowitz and keyboardist / producer Peter Hubner. Refusing offers from some record labels who insisted they should go ''commercial'', they decided to record and release their first album, ''Classic Epics'', all by themselves.

    LITTLE FREE ROCK

    Nirvanating Nervesounds

[engl] Psychedelic hard- rock featuring the explosive fuzz- wah guitar of Peter Illingworth (ex- David John & The Mood). Little Free Rock were an underground British power- trio which evolved from heavy- mod- psych band Purple Haze. In 1969, the band released their only album for the Transatlantic label. A rather disappointing effort for the band and their fans, as the ultra- clean production did not show the real, powerful sound of the power- trio. Nirvanating Nervesounds? collects previously unreleased sessions for an aborted Little Free Rock second album from 1971, produced by Robert Stigwood, plus tracks from their early incarnation as Purple Haze, taken from an ultra- rare demo acetate from 1969.

    M. CAYE CASTAGNETTO

    Leap Second

[engl] Influenced by a life split between Lima, London, and Twentynine Palms, Peru-born Caye Castagnetto's "Leap Second" is an intriguingly personal and hard to classify debut album. The album is thick collage of samples Caye recorded with different artists and musicians, including Beatrice Dillon and the late Aileen Bryant, that spans 5 years in the making. There is something in Leap Second that tracks the speed of bodies, how they approach and retreat. The 10 tracks are speedy and languid, thick ruffles, and dirges. In parts it feels like you've stumbled upon a forgotten incredible 70's folk record but that feeling gets broken quickly by clever sleights of hand. Caye's balladry is angular, time is elastic. Each song is a fresh cape. How dandies really mean it, so masc that it's fay, how the only moment is this one and it's just passed, etcetera. "While it doesn’t really sound like anything else, there are moments that feel like a Latin flavored Nico, that’s edging its way towards some of the outings of the Sun City Girls. In my opinion it checks all the boxes, by checking none of them.” - Bjorn Copeland, Black Dice "A truly interesting conglomeration of loose inspirations and conjurings. A hard to decipher sound all together which makes it worth every moment, A sprinkling of Catherine Ribeiro, Dr. John, Terje Rypdal & Nico. Far out sun-soaked odysseys & moon dappled woodland night creepers.." - John Dwyer

    MACARTHUR

    MacArthur

[engl] U.S basement psych- prog monster released in 1979 as an ultra- rare private pressing of 200 copies. MacArthur were formed when a young guitar player and songwriter named Ben MacArthur met a 17- yeard old prodigy musician called Bill Heffelfinger in Saginaw, Michigan, in 1978. Bill was not only a gifted guitar player but also a genius arranger and keyboard wizard. When Ben showed him some of the stuff he had written, Bill took the songs and transformed them into classic pieces of music. They soon recruited Jeff Bauer on drums and Scott Stockford on bass. The chemistry of MacArthur was born. The first MacArthur album, known in collector?s circles as ?The Black Forest? due to the vinyl bootleg of the same title released in the 80s, was recorded in 1979 using a four- track machine. Produced by Bill Heffelfinger, ?MacArthur? is a progressive / psychedelic concept album highlighted by devastating, ripping fuzz guitar solos and Mini- Moog / analog synths attacks. Due to the lack of funds, the album was originally issued by the band in a primitive hand- made sleeve with just a sticker on front and a paper sheet with the credits glued on back. For this, the first ever legit reissue, we?ve done a printed sleeve with embossed letters on front, as the band originally intended.

    MAD TIMOTHY

    A Very Snug Joiner

[engl] First ever release for this previously unknown late ’60s/ early ’70s acetate, rescued from a thrift store in Chicago. Damaged heavy blooz–psych in the vein of Blue Cheer, Majic Ship, Mount Rushmore, Houston Fearless, Apryl Fool, Sweet Slag, Mutzie, Aum, Screw, or a wasted teenage Canned Heat. In these digital and interconnected times, it’s very rare to find an album from the 60s–70s which hasn’t been documented or "discovered" yet. That’s the case with a mysterious demo LP titled "A Very Snug Joiner" by a band called Mad Timothy. In words of Steve Krakow (of Plastic Crimewave / Galactic Zoo): "A friend of mine found this no–jacket LP at a thrift shop, and there is ZERO information on them––no one knows anything and I’ve spoken to many collectors. Very cool sludgy Blue Cheer/Majic Ship/Mount Rushmore kind of vibe––with a few folkier tracks–––it’s all pretty charmingly primitive–– I think people would want to hear this!" Even knowing that our efforts to track down the band were fruitless, we thought that this rarity deserved to be shared with the world, so we at Out–Sider / Guerssen in collaboration with Steve’s Galactic Archive imprint, are doing a vinyl edition of the Mad Timothy demo album, hoping that any of the band members will see it and contact us... *The audio has been lovingly restored for full thudding blastage, with new artwork by underground sculptor Robert Buchholz and Plastic Crimewave (Galactic Zoo Dossier). *Free digital download coupon included.

    MANDRAKE PADDLE STEAMER

    Pandemonium Shadow Show

[engl] Previously unreleased recordings, 1968/1970, by British quintessential psychedelic / progressive band MANDRAKE PADDLE STEAMER / MANDRAKE, culled from the band’s archive of reel tapes and acetates. Pure late 60s UK psychedelic sound with early prog moves, plenty of Hammond and fuzzed out guitar, powerful vocals...Including such lost gems as the Barrett–Floyd sounding "The World Whistles By", killer psych–rockers like "Pandemonium Shadow Show" or "Doris The Piper", the mellotron fuelled "October Country" and more! Unlike other 60s British bands who changed their music to ’psychedelic’ or ’progressive’ with the time, MPS were born "progressive" from day one. Formed in 1967 in Walthamstow (London) by a core of art school students, their members were Brian Engel, Martin Briley, Paula Riordan, Martin Hooker and Barry Nightingale (later replaced by David Potts). During their short lifespan (1967–1970), MPS supported big names like Pink Floyd, The Nice or Vanilla Fudge. They played at the Isle Of Wight Festival, had a residence at the Star Club in Germany and ran their own club night (Asgard). Signed to the Parlophone label (though the band was aiming to be part of the more progressive Harvest imprint) they released in 1969 the "Strange Walking Man" 45, recorded at Abbey Road and now widely considered a lost British psychedelic classic (check Rubbles, Perfumed Garden, etc). Due to lack of promotion and interest from their record label, the 45 went nowhere. After some line–up changes and shortening their name to just Mandrake, the band definitively split in 1970. "Pandemonium Shadow Show" collects studio recordings registered by Mandrake Paddle Steamer / Mandrake during 1968/1970 at various London studios such as Regent, Orange and other unknown locations. Some of these tracks had been previously included on several bootleg albums with inferior sound quality / wrong titles and others have remained unreleased until now.

    MARCANO, PAUL & LIGHTDREAMS

    10,001 Dreams

[engl] “10,001 Dreams” is a perfect distillation of Paul Marcano’s musical essence: thoughtful, psychedelic, pop-oriented music but with a deeply progressive ear for song structure and the intuitive glow of a well-crafted lyrical refrain.” (Jack D. Fleischer—10, 001 Dreams, Liner Notes) A thematic sequel of sorts to the sci-fi psych odyssey exploring cosmic ideology that was the British Columbians debut—LightDreams’ Islands In Space—10,001 Dreams from 1982 finds its leader, Paul Marcano, edging closer lyrically to the utopian outer space colonization he’d previously conjured while under the sway of physicist/space activist/author Gerard K. O’Neill. The ever-present percussive acoustic layers from Islands In Space remain, while the New Age-like keyboard washes are nearly totally supplanted by mellow, wickedly fuzzed, floating layers of dreamy, treated, atmospheric electric guitar. As scribe Jack D. Fleischer says, at the time of the recording the group had reached, “a certain kind of psychedelic revelation that had become completely frontal,” and that is emphasized by this increased use of soaring electric coloring. Originally issued solely on cassette, Marcano and Lightdreams’ home-recorded (yet hi-fi) lysergic creations give nod to the original British psychedelic and progressive eras, while maintaining a firm foot in hook-based, melodic folk’n’pop and are a guaranteed treasure for those searching for unheard and otherworldly joys.

    MCKAY

    A new light shines

[engl] Ray McKay Pierle started recording his own songs in 1974 and in 1977 he released his first album, ?Into You?, which is one of the finest West Coast / rural- rock private pressing ever. ?A New Light Shines? collects previously unreleased tracks recorded at home between 1974 and 1979. The overall sound here is more psychedelic, raw and loose than what you can hear on his other albums, ?Into You? and ?Take Two? but you can expect the same kind of laid- back sound, top- level songwriting, Neil Young- esque vocals and outlaw guitars. An exciting find for any lover of West Coast / Psychedelia / Rural- Rock / Obscure US private press sounds!

    MCKAY

    Into you take two

[engl] In 2013 we released the celebrated ''A New Light Shines'' by McKay, an album comprised of unreleased recordings by this master of rural psychedelic sounds. ''Into You (Take Two)'' includes previously unreleased tracks recorded in 1975- 79 by the same cast of musicians who recorded ''Into You'', the legendary first McKay private album. Laid- back, rural psychedelic rock with dreamy Neil Young- Beatlesque vocal harmonies, raw fuzzed- out guitars and druggy atmosphere. Certainly the most psychedelic sounding stuff McKay ever recorded! In 1995, the now defunct OR label put out ''Into You (Take Two)'' as a limited 300 copies vinyl pressing. After many years out of print, we present a new vinyl edition of this amazing album.
