    SUEVES, THE

    Change Your Life

[engl] The Sueves blast forth with a blizzard of treble-soaked noise, and once Joe's spidery guitar, along with Rob's vicious bass lines, and Andy's shambolicly acute drumming really kick in together, they just explode, and they've clearly got that elusive “tension” so many bands just can't get right. We're extremely excited to get this debut 7' out into the world, so don't sleep on this raw and trashy debut single from one of Chicago's top bands, busting right out of the gate and right into your dreams and nightmares.

    SUEVES, THE

    Tears of Joy

[engl] “European” Pressing, after the pressing on the bands own Magicatalog Records was sold out in a wink, here is another pressing! 300 copies on Magicatalog came with a brilliant screenprinted sleeve, expansive on discogs now. Here is a official second pressing of this record. We already did their first album few years back, yeah we are in love with the noisy garage punk smashers of THE SUEVES. It’s lame to talk about how fantastic this 3rd album is, so here is what the experts had to say.... „Simplicity, in all its ramshackle glory, is one of the charms of garage rock. That appeal can wear off quickly though when a band’s songwriting is subpar and/or the execution is poor. The Sueves new record is the perfect example of how rewarding it can be when a band challenges itself; when a band is not afraid to go beyond self- or other- imposed boundaries of the genre; when a band invests a little more time in writing and recording music. On Tears of Joy, The Sueves sound more layered, diverse and dynamic than most garage bands, but also in comparison to their past selves. They do so without sacrificing any of the energy and excitement of their earlier work. Mop Bucket is a modern garage rock classic. Short and fast songs like Alexxxa, Find The Right Fit and Stare will draw in punk fans. Other songs (e.g., Deflect The World) move into The Stooges territory. To be sure, the Sueves have created their own enterprise, and never sound like copycats. Overall, Tears of Joy is a thrilling listen, a kick to the nuts of those who complain that guitar music nowadays is redundant. I am pretty confident that the allure of the record is more likely to expand than wear off upon further listens. That leaves us with one concern. Now that the band has ran out of primary colors for their album covers – red for their debut, blue for their second one and yellow for Tears Of Joy, what will they do next? Based on this record, the Sueves are just getting started.” ADD TO WANTLIST “I stopped reading NME and other craps for hit-machine a while ago, but I kept this old habit of believing that the third album is an important moment in a band's life. Well, OK. If I had to compare Tears of Joy with the first two (I spent long nights with), I'd say it's overall slower but more melodic. I would say that Joe Schorgi's voice remains one of the most recognizable in the whole scene. I'd say that the album is incredibly complex, between the eighties spirit of "Diet Genetics" (which hides a horde of zombies), the pop melody of "Feneral Hugs", the almost Lou Reed-trash-period-mechanics of "Dance Dance Whatever", the punk 77" of "Deal", the quasi-psychobilly of "Find the Right Fit", and "He Puts Down" which seems to be the punk version of a Taxi Boys' (see).” STILL IN ROCK

    SUGAR STEMS

Sweet sounds of the Sugar Stems

[engl] Welcome to another joyride in the BACHELOR train from/to Milwaukee.... We are very proud to be part of this release, the debut full lenght of the SUGAR STEMS! One year ago the band sent me a six song demo CDR which made my boss drool. He immediately inked a deal with these kids and put out their debut 7" which got a lot of raving reviews. They went to the MYSTERY STUDIOS with Justin Perkins (again), who recorded another batch of great songs, most of which you can find on this full lenght release. These two guys and two gals churn out hit after hit, think of THE SHIVVERS with proper production or female fronted RASPBERRIES with a kick!!! I am talking about wholesome powerpop fun, pressed on beautiful black vinyl, housed in a cardboard sleeve designed by Chris Tayler / X-Ray Vision - this package is like a chewing gum that never loses ist flavour!

    TEAMSTERS, THE

    Sharp Suited S.O.A.G.

[engl] The Teamsters haven't released anything since September 2014, with the exception of a demo on a compilation tape released over in Chicago. Their line-up of drummers changed drastically over the last 18 months, with the likes of Bruce Brand stepping in before leaving in March of this year. That's not to say that the group haven't been recording and writing profusely, they never stop in fact. They declare that they enough for 2 LPs, but their refusal to compromise on the sound they strive for has left them re-recording and mixing dozens of tracks. Intent on making a truly great record. In the meantime they were happy enough to release a couple of tracks for a single on Bachelor Records. The songs are co written by the bands guitarist and bass player Tom and Dan, and we were happy enough to put them out. It marks a departure from their earlier ramshackle days as a trash punk outfit and into the finer details. 'Sharp Suited S.O.A.G' is a mocking portrayal on a man who focuses his life on clothes, where money is no object. The B side 'Why Do You Wanna Do That?' is your standard song of heartbreak, nothing much to elaborate on there, but its new and its exciting. This release is limited to 500 copies, housed in a cardboard disco sleeve (two holes). Artwork done by Tom H. Wing.

    TERRORDACTYLS

    dto

[engl] THE TERRORDACTYLS are quite well-rounded individuals. Michael's interests include fabricating truths on job applications, multiple choice questions and running away. Tyrel enjoys guns, organizing his itunes music library and being good at life. during the brief periods that Michael and Tyrel are away from the gym, they also enjoy watching inspirational sports films and talking about their abs. On their self-titled album, THE TERRORDACTYLS ' quirky, lighthearted yet decidedly melancholic pop/anti-folk tunes are augmented by toy pianos, kazoos, and the voice of Kimya Dawson (THE MOLDY PEACHES, JUNO). Despite all these charming trappings, though, nothing really serves to take the edge off THE TERRORDACTYLS ' gutsy interpretation of the sad sweetness (or sweet sadness) of living. A Thousand Guitars

[engl] Formed from the ashes of one the most tragic and beloved Punkbands in recent memory, The Exploding Hearts, they are “Terry & Louie” AKA Terry Six and King Louie Bankston. And they are back! And with a brand new fulllength album entitled “… A Thousand Guitars”. Terry & Louie are THE premier songwriting partnership duo. Much like Nick Lowe and Dave Edmunds (Rockpile), Chin and Chapman, and Boyce and Hart before them. They combine theheart and soul from their predecessors with catchy upbeat blasts “It’s All Mine” and the title track, “…A Thousand Guitars” also solid jukebox powerhousehits like “Pink Razor Blade” and “Rebel Ways” and bring it into the now withgrit and rawness blitzing to the forefront. Picking right back up wherethey left off from their days with The Exploding Hearts, “…A Thousand Guitars” has those huge, sonic signature guitar sounds and soulful vocal performances, includes tried and true bone crushers like, “(I’m) Looking For A Heart” – Record Turnover. “…A Thousand Guitars” is clearly a heavy contender for anyrecord collection.

Das Mädchen mit den roten Haaren

[engl] Originally released in 1982, this is a really really rare record out of the early 80ties punk / new wave pool in Vienna. Not as well known as many of the austrian first wave punk / hc bands, this short lived combo tried to put their emphasis not on being the snottiest, roughest sounding brat of the school, nope, its a bit Dada (hence the label that originally put this out), a bit new wave, a bit pop! Listen or yourself and find out... Thanks to Andreas Buchegger we were able to get a copy of this gem, gave it to Eric Brady to get a fresh vinyl master to press it on beautiful black vinyl. TRAUMAHELIKOPTER

    Look The Other Way

[engl] With a mutual love for rock ‘n’ roll music and a destructive perspective on daily life, it didn’t take long before Mark Lada and Daan van Dalen became BFF’s. After multiple bad break-ups, college debts and shitty call center jobs, the two took residence in an old warehouse building to write songs. Preferably during full moon. In the words of Maximum Rock ‘n Roll: “Fucking great.” In the words of Mark and Daan: “Fucking great.” After a while, the guys hooked up with Professional Againster Roel van Merlot, who turned out to be the ultimate addition to transform the band into an iconic trinity, based around drums, electric guitar and electric guitar. National newspapers concluded that “traumahelikopter has found the essence of rock ‘n’ roll.” Their record collections represent the entire rock ‘n’ roll history, covering obscure country, blues, R&B, beat, punk, wave, grunge, contemporary garage and whatnot. These guys know what’s up. With a devil-may-care-attitude the band played everywhere, and recorded their debut album in just one week. “This record is about pure hedonism, punk and broken teen spirits,” says Mark Lada. “And it’s the best stuff we recorded so far.” Their last full lenght has been released on LP and CD by Excelsior Recordings and on LP and cassette by Burger Records. The recordings on this classic two song 45 are a bit rougher, more garage punk than the “normal” recordings. The difference is more than obvious if you listen to the song “No Hope” which is featured on the normal album and here on the B-Side. Its not unlike a radio friendly mix compared to the wild in-your-face interpretation of it on a punk rock show. Better get ready. Everything they say is true.

[engl] Thanks to the brilliant brilliant (!!!) record label Girlsville, who put this compilation together for a tape release we - Bachelor Records - can be part of this vinyl record! This tape was just too good to be just out on the tiny format, so we asked Girlsville to have this pressed on wax. Together we did 1000 copies, 200 of which on red vinyl which is only available directly from the labels. This comp has new and exclusive music from bands like Osees, Gen Pop, Germ House, and UK Gold. Some stuff that had fallen out of print (The Primitives 2016 cover of "Been Hiding" by The Aislers Set), and then some songs bands gave us just to be a part of it. Artwork and design concept: Anna Jo Beck. Mastered by Patrick Haight, Proceeds to benefit Prism Health. "Prism Health is committed to offering safe, compassionate, and affirming primary and mental health care to all members of the LGBTQ+ community." Also included: Danny And The Darleans, UV-TV, Hood Rats, Maxines, Special Interest, Blues Lawyer, Mr. And The Mrs., Virvon Varvon, Andrew Anderson, Becky & The Politicians, and Stiff Love. „Girlsville hits it out of the park with this one. This comp is absolutely killer and features such heavy hitters as GEN POP, STIFF LOVE, and even a new track by OSEES (the newly renamed/revived OH SEES), as well as sixteen more tracks. It's impossible to pick a favorite track off of this as it hits a lot of different bases. I was most surprised by how driving and gritty the OSEES song on here is, though; haven't heard that band sounding this nasty in a while and I absolutely love it. Listen to this comp, make a donation to Prism Health if you can, and perhaps most importantly do what the label says: be gay, do crime!”-Biff Bafaro (MAXIMUM ROCKNROLL)

    WELDERS

    Our Own Oddities 1977-81

[engl] The Welders were an all-female Punk Pop band from St. Louis, MO. Formed by four young, teenage women in 1975; they started playing shows in 1976, in one of the toughest climates to get booked for bands playing original material. The Welders bonded over their love of The Monkees, The Beatles and early glam rock. The comedy of the National Lampoon Radio Hour and the Marx Brothers were just as big of an influence. The Welders played several shows in the St. Louis metro area and eventually caught the attention of a local photographer and newspaper owner. He financed a recording session in 1979, with plans to release a four song EP. The newspaper folded before the release could happen, and all that survived was a cassette copy of the recordings. The Welders continued for a couple more years after recording the EP. They had brief line up changes, and added an organ which shifted their sound more towards a '60s garage pop sound. They were ahead of their time again, pre-dating most of the neo-garage explosion of the '80s. By 1981, the band had moved on to other interests. In 2010 BDR Records (a sub-label of Rerun, designated for St. Louis area artists) issued that previously unreleased EP. The EP was well received worldwide and has been sold out for several years. This new collection includes a newly remastered and improved version of the 1979 EP tracks, along with other studio, rehearsal and live recordings. The LP includes a large, six panel insert filled with amazing photos of the band.

    WHIFFS, THE

    Another Whiff

[engl] Can you smell what The Whiffs are cookin? Hint: it’s not Phish, Meatloaf or a String Cheese Incident. Nope – Kansas City’s prodigal sons of power pop are sticking to what they know on Another Whiff, their debut full-length for Dig! Records. Since 2017’s Take A Whiff EP, the band has been busy allowing their auditory aromas to ripen with the addition of Joey Rubbish (of The Rubs) for a fuller, more robust sonic bouquet. While the band can still get it up for Stiff Records – their pop-centric punk remains in full force – the album takes detours down lonelier roads in broken-hearted ballads from the heartland. No rocks left unturned on a journey forged by pioneers like Chilton and later Westerberg, the looming legacy of Petty and the cosmic country harmonies of The Byrds before them. In a year’s span, The Whiffs took their time recording, on and off, in their makeshift basement practice space: Electric Babyland. This pace and environs allowed the new lineup to coalesce, and get tour-tight on the road with La Luz, Bad Sports and Patsy’s Rats. The result is a unique album that is at once sprawling in direction and precise in execution, with all the sonic stank you’d expect from sweaty beer plied basement sessions. Out of the gate, “Shakin All Over” will register to all of the senses, like you’re squatting in the corner of the basement, imbibing with the band and absorbing every hit from Jake’s C&C kit (note the frivolous plug for Jake’s drum company). After untold nights into the wee hours of the morning, 14 tracks emerged as Another Whiff. Expertly recorded by Joey, mixed by Vince Lawhon and mastered by Jordan Richardson; the final package sounds like the sum of its parts, and all the beers in between. Another Whiff shirks a sell-by date and trends de jour, in favor of honest guitar driven, vocally infectious love songs for the ages. Timeless tunes and the triple-threat of Rory, Zach and Joey’s vocals set The Whiffs apart from their peers. Three distinct songwriters with their own personal flavors, delivering three-part harmonies for a unique rotation of upbeat punk belters (“Now I Know”), achy ballads (“She”) and triumphant tearjerkers (“How Could You”) that our troubled troubadours dispense like a Greatest Hits Factory for the last half-century of all of our all-time favorites.

    Scratch N Sniff

[engl] After a cassette and a full lenght called “Another Whiff”, here is the long awaited next album of these Kansas City Powerpop Sensations! HEY YOU! Get a whiff of this: Scratch ‘N’ Sniff by The Whiffs — the second album by Kansas City’s foremost power pop foursome is upon us! Not unlike their first album (Another Whiff), and as rock critic Jon Harrison heralds in the album’s liner notes: “this sophomoric offering provides all of the things you love about The Whiffs.” … Now, if you’re asking yourself ‘what do I love about the Whiffs’? Here’s a clue: SONGS. You love The Whiffs’ songs! And now Scratch ‘N’ Sniff’s got 13 new boffo numbers brimming with the hook-laden, never-far-from-the-bar pub-rock snarl The Whiffs nail everytime. The Whiffs are less recording artists than a band of journeymen, from the drums Jake Cardwell (C&C Drum Co.) built-by-hand, to Joey Rubbish’s home recording studio (Club Sandwich). It’s only natural Scratch ‘N’ Sniff is a homegrown production from the floor (tom) up, and was recorded in the band’s living room. The songs are all their own too. Whether penned by Cameron (Rory), Campbell (Zach) or Rubbish (Joey), they all stink of The Whiffs broken-in power pop confectionery. A close listen will reveal the cracks of many-a-can and roommates laughing at vocal takes. As such, everyone’s invited to Scratch ‘N’ Sniff and dive in!

Unfortunately, one can only get smarter, not dumber, and once you’ve learned too much, it’s too late. SUCH IS LIFE. Side A, however, marks the continuation along a newer path for The Yolks. “Don’t Cry Anymore” is a lot less Ramones or Booker T and the MGs than much of their previous output, and a lot more Ethiopians, Clarendonians, and Everly Brothers, with brothers Nathan and Spencer Johnson singing those sweet, sweet harmonies whose gentle beauty will surely lift your spirits, and maybe, just maybe, might melt your cold, dead little heart. It’s a sound that not many bands are going for nowadays, and it is already making beautiful women swoon, tough guys choke back tears, and audiences across Chicago shower The Yolks with flowers, kisses, and admiration every time they play! With this single The Yolks show once again their ability to write songs in very different styles that nonetheless always sound cohesive, for in the end they never stray far from the immortal wellspring of pure, unadulterated rock ‘n’ roll. Buy this record and see for yourself that, indeed, The Yolks truly are THE KINGS OF AWESOME!!!

    ZERO ZEROES

    Mirrors / Dreamcrawler

[engl] Zero Zeroes: just one of those ungoogleable band names, scuppered a tad by the existence of Californian ‘70s punkas The Zeroes. But this German band are definitely their own beast - OK, there are touches of San Diego legend John Reis in their DNA (the garage-centric power chords are pure Rocket From The Crypt; the relentless drive of the guitars calls to mind the wild focus of Hot Snakes), but they’re here to make a racket their own way, and it’s scintillating. Together with Drunken Sailor Records, UK, we released their debut album in 2020 (and the repress in 2021), it was critically acclaimed from all sides, real punk magazines like MAX RNR said “DAMN NEAR PERFECT MODERN PUNK, mainstream punkrock media even did album streaming premieres (NEW NOISE MAGAZINE) so in case you missed this, check ebay or discogs to buy yourself a black, blue or silver copy...
