    LOS CRUDOS

    Doble LP Discografía

[engl] Finally a European version of the long overdue LOS CRUDOS Discography collection. LOS CRUDOS, formed in Chicago's Pilsen neighbourhood in the early 90's, are a Latino punk band with a strong socio-political message and an extremely militant DIY attitude. During their first incarnation, spanning the years 1991 to 1998 the band self-released their own records, printed their own merch, booked their own shows and toured relentlessly around the world. From South America to Japan including a 3 month European tour in the winter of 1996. They spoke to the freaks the outsiders and the minorities and were not afraid of confronting the white middle class punk who reigned supreme during the terrible 90's. A time which will not be remembered for their hardcore output except for a few exceptions, in which CRUDOS are surely included. Their sound, far from being a copycat of whatever flavour of the month was reigning at the time was heavy rooted in the golden years of European and Latino American ferocious hardcore punk. With bands as IMPACT, WRETCHED, OLHO SECO, TERVEET KADET or MASACRE 68 as obvious influences in a time when the simple mention of any of those bands (or any non English speaking bands really) was usually met with a laugh or a joke. They sang in Spanish, with aggression and conviction and that made their message spread out widely, reaching thousands of Spanish speaking punks both in Latino America and Spain as well as inside USA where third generation Latino kids surely were missing a voice within the punk scene. The band split up in 1998 after a really intense year of touring and reformed in 2008.

    LUMPY AND THE DUMPERS

    Those Pickled Fuckers

[engl] Since emerging five years ago Lumpy and the Dumpers have gone from being aberrant oddballs to key figures in a whole scene of weirdo punk. Through Lumpy Records and its influence a grubby morrass of freak punk has bubbled to the surface in their slimy wake. Those Pickled Fuckers is the sound of a band distinguishing themselves from a sound they inspired, not falling into the easiness of a sound, finding new ways to express their grubby vision while retaining the essential muck that made people take notice in the first place. Over seven tracks of gritty discomfort punk, bulging with bodyhorror blues and puerile manic imprecations, Lumpy and the Dumpers revel and writhe in the effluvia of life and the rude pangs and oozings of flesh. Revivifying the dead metaphor of the earworm, these songs burrow snugly into your brain, distorted sing-song playground melodies, like hell dimension children's show theme songs, exploding with weird turns and twists, from the blaring horns of Someone's In The House's paranoiac stomp, to the wild malfunctioning chiptune screams cutting through Attention and the sinister whoops and crashes of the oddly mellow Clatter Song, Those Pickled Fuckers is an album only Lumpy and the Dumpers could've made.? [engl] MALADIA “Sacred Fires” 12”EP stands on an abyss made of the hiss and fog of a thousand generated cassette demos and the murky despair of damaged electronics and overloaded amplifiers. Equal doses of raw punk from the Southern Hemisphere and 80s European hc punk influences mingle with harrowing and desperate vocal cries, echoing RUDIMENTARY PENI and NERORGASMO as if both bands were hanging out in the back seat of a tour van listening to ANTISECT on a boombox. Recorded in a pre-fire Fuzzbrain studios in oppressive mid summer heat, this will tear your turntable up!

    Circle Of Madness...

[engl] Chicago’s MOCK EXECUTION are back with a 5 track EP in time for their European Tour. Expect more of their trademark raw unfiltered hardcore. Dual flanged out guitars deliver sharp chunky riffs, hypnotic and psychedelic at times, while the heavily distorted low end of the bass/drums create a cavernous foundation for their sonic attack. While borrowing heavily from Scandinavian hardcore and the entire Crust War catalogue MOCK EXECUTION make the sound their own.

    MOCK EXECUTION

    Killed By Mock Execution

[engl] Chicago’s MOCK EXECUTION return with 9 tracks of unadulterated sonic aggression. Their debut LP Killed By Mock Execution takes cues from the dirtier sides of both Finnish and Japanese hardcore while keeping their engineer boots firmly set on the traditional UK crust sound of yesteryear. Executing a magnificent hybrid of DOOM and GLOOM, GAI, KAAOS, and the entire early 2000’s Crust War catalogue, MOCK EXECUTION tear through flanger solos, huge crash cymbals, burly driven bass and NO SECURITY split era intros and that’s only part way to the band’s sound. Recorded by the band on an 8 track tape recorder at their tiny practice space, during the height of global pandemic and civil unrest in the USA between 2020 and 2021, and graced with artwork by the inimitable Monykaos.

    Controlled Confusion

[engl] Hitting like a West Yorkshire stone brick to the back of the head, is the first EP from Leeds’ Motive. Brainchild of one Harry Townend, melding the noise of 80’s UKHC and Swedish Hardcore to spew out a bastard son of The Varukers and Crude SS. Controlled Confusion is the soundtrack for today’s skate youth who were lucky enough to find Discharge and Anti-Cimex under all the dust and rubble, and carve a path away from the capitalism and corporatism that infects the scene in 2023. Crank this thing up, slash a grind at the park. Grosso would approve.

    NAILBITER

    The Bait

[engl] NAILBITER came out of nowhere in the beginning of the 2000's in a London where bad punk, terrible USA inspired hardcore and worse Euro Crust were the norm. They were foreign squaters obsessed with ANTI-CIMEX, Japanese Hardcore and Worldwide punk in a time when the internet hadn't made all those scenes commodities a google away from you. They played as much as they could to audiences who thought of them boring, dirty or un-hip. They managed to release a handful of records before their career stopped when the drummer was deported back to Brazil. Fast forward a few years ahead and NAILBITER are back in action. Touring Europe as often as they can and writing new material. Unfortunately they are not allowed to play live in UK due to the drummer's status but they have been unleashing their nihilistic hybrid of late era ANTI-CIMEX and Burning Sensation Japanese hardcore for a couple of years now.

    NERVOUS SS / RAT CAGE

    Skopje Vs Sheffield

[engl] It’s a stark and baron land out there right now. What we all need is some fucking loud, fast, uncompromising raw punk to drown out the constant bullshit being broadcasted as 2021 develops. Both following up storming debut LP’s with five new tracks plus a local cover each, Nervous SS and Rat Cage clash head to head on this 12 song barrage of hell for leather punk rock. The Nervous SS side (Skopje) undoubtedly wears a Totalitär influence on its sleeve, but combine that sweet sound with a complete powerhouse vocal bombardment that sets Nervous SS a cut above the rest. Flip to the Rat Cage side (Sheffield) for a rapid attack of Scandi riffs with the relentless urgency we’ve grown to know and love from the band. The side ends with a U.K. Subs cover, clearly displaying Rat Cage’s classic British Punk influence. With Master dials set firmly to ‘destroy mode’, this record will be your saviour in these dark times. Crank it.

    NOSFERATU

    Society's Bastard

[engl] 40 plus years after Out of Vogue and Pay to Cum came, USA HC punk has died many deaths. Only to be brought back to life wave after wave. Perhaps only to be sold again as a cleaner version of itself. However there seem to always be a bunch of miscreats that spit on HC grave and enjoy making dirty and aggressive fast music as if their lifes were on it. NOSFERATU is one of them. What we have here is the long promised vinyl version of their last year cassette tape. On it you’ll find 11 songs of boom box sounding hardcore PUNK. Fast and raging, without an ounce of metal or cuteness on it. Think of YDI or E-13 but also WRETCHED or SYSTEMATIC DEATH. Short songs as burst of energy with an attention to detail to their craft the way only someone who has worn out their HEREJIA or ANTI-DOGMATIKSS tapes can create. In so many words, NOSFERATU sounds, in my mind, as the missing hidden track on Killed By Hardcore vol. 2. This version of Society’s Bastard comes as a double A side 12” with the same program repeating on both sides, why not? Packed in a beautiful sleeve designed Albert, who also designed the insert and wrote all the songs.

    NOSFERATU

    Solution A

[engl] Texas's Nosferatu unleash their first full-length of hardcore ramped-up into its highest echelons of breakneck propulsiveness, whizzed-up and faultily-wired, a tumbledown chaos of Siege-like flurries, whipping about with Die Kreuzen sharpness, or the more modern uncompromising flailings of Permission and No. Ugly barks, murky blurs of riffs slammed into you with the force of a bomb-blast. Barely room for breath, most of the tracks snapping off with little ceremony, apart from on the Under The Sun which drags that grimy noise out into a grubby itchy monster three times the length of most of the other tracks on the album, and on the apocalyptic stomp of the closer Solution Absolute.

    OBEDIENCIA

    Erosión

[engl] Obediencia from Madrid release their debut album after two 7" singles on Solo Para Punks. Their breakout LP is filled with melancholic damp, anthemic choruses, and powerful vocal melody all hanging amongst fast moving, machinistic drums, and buzzsaw guitar work. This brings to mind some Spanish punk of the golden era like demo-era Ultimo Resorte, only having replaced the nods to rock n roll via the Pistols with a few guitar lessons from Greg Sage (Wipers). Enough guitar interplay to listen to on a cold rainy day, and enough power-chords to convince yourself you're listening to Madrid's answer to the Avengers. Standout track is the closer, "Sótano," which sees one of the few breaks in pace to bookend the uncompromising energy that came before it but overall all songs are fast paced, under three minutes with hooks galore. Fans of X, Pink Champagne, Penetration or The Observers will fall in love with this album on first listen.

    OBSESSIO

    s/t

[engl] OBSESSIÓ’s debut is a blast of crude hardcore. Formed during the extremely dark times of August of 2018 and based between Athens and Barcelona the band first statement is an 8 track 12” at 45 rpm which knocks you down with the first chord. Kindly indebted to the living legacy of TOTALITÄR, CRUDITY and other Nordic Beat greats while keeping an unmistakably modern swagger. Breakneck pace and musical manufacture care of three Greeks who have set the stage for Angela’s no doubt bleak summary of the world, whose distinctively intimidating and minimal powerhouse voice crashes across OBSESSIÓ’s music. No songs over 2 minutes, no frills or tricks, no contemplative pondering on delicate matters, and most of all no fucking melody.

    OHYDA

Pan Bóg Spe?ni Wszystkie Pragnienia Lewaków... I Dojdzie Do Katastrofy!

[engl] Hurtling out of Lesser Poland full of indignant rage and armed with defiant conviction come Lublin’s OHYDA with a third LP that puts Kaczy?ski and his PiS cronies to shame. The legacy of Polish forefathers DEZERTER lurks behind razor-sharp riffs and tightly-wound drums, but this record is no mere exercise in homage paying. Where other efforts may hide behind prescriptive cacophony, OHYDA leap out from the dark with a sound that is both cleaner and more considered while somehow remaining belligerently heavy and grotesque. Such is the catchiness that loiters beneath the swell of this tortured LP you might even pick up glimmers of TZN XENNA’s 1985 7” Dzieci z Brudnej Ulicy. Right-wing populists and pro-lifers are amongst the victims who are dressed down with both fury and absurdity. There’s also an entire tune that goes after Kaja Godek, which deserves a round of applause in itself. The band’s best work to date. (Christopher Dodd)

    OJO POR OJO

    s/t

[engl] A sonic auto-da-fé, the OJO POR OJO debut LP is an exercise in modern Mexican costumbrismo. Crude and primitive, the band’s aural vomit is a sharp-eyed comment on the trip through the guts of the monster that living in Mexico City has become. Where crime and filth reigns supreme among a society driven by chronic malinchismo and constant life fear. OJO POR OJO follows the path laid out by bands such as INSERVIBLES or RATAS DEL VATICANO while borrowing heavily from Greek gods ?????????, Colombian demigods PARABELLUM and Italian deities NERORGASMO. Lacking pretence, this Stations of the Cross-like album has 10 tracks instead of 14 and is a raw portrayal of everyday life in the place where the District Federal trio live. Comes packed in a macabre masterpiece created between drummer Mico and guitarist/ vocalist Yecatl Peña which painstakingly depicts the current collective mental state of a nation. Includes a lyric sheet and a disturbing yet normalised picture, depicting a petty thief lynched by locals in Ecatepec. A seemly weekly happening in the Ciudad de Mexico.

Their EP recorded analog in Berlin with Tobias Lilli displays the chaos and sonic venom that this Mallorca outfit have us accustomed to. Four existentialist tracks of distorted hardcore tracks joined together which bring to mind the most out of control parts of UNITED MUTATIONS or VOID with the in unapologetic attitude of WRETCHED or SHOTGUN SOLUTION. PEACE DE RESISTANCE

    Bits And Pieces

[engl] Moses Brown of Texas punk bands Institute and Glue released his first cassette under the name Peace de Résistance - a solo project where he plays all the instruments - in October 2020. That cassette found Brown bouncing his growing songwriting chops off the fuzz-drenched Zamrock sound of Paul Ngozi, Witch, and Amanaz. However, Bits and Pieces - Peace de Résistance’s first full-length and first vinyl release - has a wider vista. Brown describes the sound as “demented glam rock,” and while you can hear remnants of the Zamrock influence in the sinuously melodic fuzz guitar, the more pertinent frames of reference are Diamond Dogs -era Bowie, 70s Lou Reed, and Iggy’s The Idiot and Lust for Life. Bits and Pieces recalls those records’ potent combination of artistic ambition, street-level rock and roll swagger, and pop charm, but filtered through the DIY punk aesthetics of Brown’s previous work. Lyrically, the album documents life on the fringes in a hyper-surveilled 2020s America, with songs like “Don’t 1099 Me,” “We Got the Right to Be Healthy,” and “Exploitation” wrenching plainspoken poetry from an existence that will be all too familiar to anyone at odds with capitalism. After nine timeless art-rock songs, Bits and Pieces lets us down gently with “Sitting in Disguise.” This motorik-inspired instrumental offers a rickety, dilapidated update of Neu!’s seamless futurism, implying that the only appropriate response to our predicament is to keep moving forward. -Sorry State

[engl] The latest record from London's Permission perfects their thin savage sound that they've been refining for three records now. Restless manic hardcore, squirming with fury. While some hardcore attacks with sheer force or repetitive brutality, PERMISSION’s riffs whip back and forth like loose firehose, and though there may be some spiritual ancestors in the likes of weirder, more discomfiting ends of 80s hardcore like DIE KREUZEN or MECHT MENSCH, PERMISSION’s angle of attack, their style of itchy marshalled chaos, unpredictable yet never disjointed, is very much their own. POLO PEPO

    San Felipe es Punk

[engl] "San Felipe Es Punk" is an anomaly in the history of punk. Overlooked at the time it was released by the international scene, this object contains the essence of Mexican underground rock in a couple of songs. We are not talking the fast, urgent and political hardcore punk most people think of when Mexico pops up in a conversation. This is different, this is what people with no relation to worldwide tape trading or specialized zines thought was punk. Polo Pepo came from the 60s hippie movement, survived the government repression of the youth during the 70's and 80s, and finally found in punk the true spirit of rock and roll. Embracing punk, he developed a unique sound with all the limitations an inhabitant of a third world country had. The songs don't talk about imminent nuclear war or Reaganomics. Instead "San Felipe Es Punk" is an ode to a poor neighbourhood in North DF where a strong music scene flourished alongside gang violence, alcoholism and drug addiction.
