    MOURNING CLOAK

    No visible light

[engl] Greensboro, NC’s Mourning Cloak, made up of members of Torch Runner, Graf Orlock & Braveyoung (Giant). No Visible Light clocks in at just over 33 minutes of crushing riffs, devastating beats and thunderous vocals. “No Visible Light.” The title is apt, because this is an ominous cloud blocking the sun, raining down charcoal dust, black mud, and infant ash on us all. Their Facebook page refers to their music as “funeral doom/punk,” but I only hear the former in this track. But this doesn’t sulk through the cemetery, it grooves hard enough to split the catacombs in half, releasing the crypt bats into the air. After the quickly dissipating opening ambience the guitars crawl from open graves and shake the rust off their bones with godless black-and-blues riffs. There is suck a thick layer of slime and sludge on this song that it reminds me of that barrier of grime and giant centipedes Indiana Jones’ love interest sticks her hand through in Temple of Doom. If you don’t get that reference, here it is in non-geek language: This song is nasty and unpleasant in the most sadistically delightful ways possible. The vocalist sounds like he’s plummeting into a bottomless pit, shaking hands with the devil to make a pact to finally break his fall. This is some seriously bleak stuff that fans of Bongzilla and Cough should feverishly inhale. ( mister growl )

    OMEGA MASSIF / MOUNT LOGAN

    split

AmRep Style. Viel Albini. Knarzende Bässe und zwingende Rhythmen. Dope, Guns & Fucking in the Streets. Kurzweilig lassen sie Vocals zu. Dekonstruktion. Destruktion.

    PARAMNESIA

ce que dit la bouche d'ombre

[engl] PARAMNESIA delivers atmospheric and progressive black metal rather uncommon for the European scene. Their music is inspired by Cascadian black metal bands such as WEAKLING, LEVIATHAN, FELL VOICES, ASH BORER, and YELLOW EYES. Although the band started in 2005, their first demo “Ce Que Dit La Bouche d’Ombre” came out in 2013 and was followed by 2 short Euro tours that same year. A true sensibility, an innate feeling for arrangements, atmospheres which can be both solemn and at times personal, an enthralling musical universe, an atypical and unique sound, and a proactive band are all qualities that make PARAMNESIA a no brainer.

If you like this common new stuff like DOOMRIDERS, LORDS etc. mixed up with some TRAGEDY, HIS HERO IS GONE and early MASTODON - this will burn your ears. Its brutal and the sounds and the coverartwork is just amazing. Rarely is hardcor so pure and hard-hitting.

    PYRAMIDO / AMAROK

    Split

[engl] PYRAMIDO: "HEAVY." - the band is just seriously demented psychedelic-doom in the vein of Grief, Electric Wizard and Noothgrush. The band is doomy, sludgy, crusty, stoner-esque, and while their music is laced with generics, there is also something extremely well calculated about their brand of doomy sludge. but, there is less of the Electric Wizard and more the Eyehategod, Goatsblood, Iron Monkey, and early High On Fire coming through the tunes on this split, even some hardcore; so I guess you could say it's out goes the doom, in comes pure crusty, dry- retching, abrasive sludge. AMAROK: AMAZING doom. Dark, brooding, heavy and intense. members of THE MAKAI lay down fucking lava-esque doom with noice harmonies, triple vocals, they mix khanate drone doom with modern atmospheric doom , kinda like thou

    SVFFER

    Empathist

[engl] this album is not to be taken lightly. Underestimate its power, approach it with inadeguate preparation, and you will be fucking destroyed by its immeasurable violence and sheer tonnage. SVFFER have brought to you a work of incendiary aggression that literally feeds off of violence. Comparable in intensity to bands like Alpinist (from which the band descends), Baptists, Tempest, Centuries, Oathbreaker, Glasses, Vestiges, Torch Runner and the such, SVFFER are authors of metallic and embittered hardcore punk which knows no boundaries or limits in its reach to annihilate the listener, and which presents us with a boundless hunger to reduce to ash anything which dares to stand in their path. Coming once again as a 12? vinyl LP from Vendetta Records, this monstrous hardcore punk album is destined to set a new bar in sonic violence and redefine the concept of aggression in aural form.

    SVFFER

    lies we live

[engl] "First of all a note for all the people needing a breather while listening to records: that will only occure while flipping the record. Always brutal, always heavy, very fast but nevertheless playful. Svffer from Bielefeld and Münster, Germany, are continuing with their LP “Lies We Live” where the promising self titled 7” left off. For these 13 songs the genre „Emogrindmotorcyclepopviolence“ should be invented, because every other description of this thunder storm might fail. It combines violent beats, intense tunes and screaming 'til the lungs bleed. This record is catchy and stays in the mind for quite a while and at the same time it is never dull. It is like an invitation to listen devoutly, swaying rhythmically or moshing angrily through the bedroom. genre

    TREES

    sickness in

[engl] 'Sickness In' is the third album from Portland's most wretched, Trees. The band presents a two-song assault, each one roughly fifteen minutes in length, each a slowly rotting heap of droning slow-motion deathdoom riffs decomposing into clouds of black amplifier hum, high shrieking voices and tortured screams drifting against the glacial roar of smoking amp stacks and short-circuiting hardware. Where the previous album had Trees employing some interesting rhythmic chaos and longer stretches of ambient filth, this time around the band drops some of their most leaden, majestic riffs yet into their slow-mo filthstorm, massive saurian doom riffs slipping WAY out of the confines of 'groove' and deep into rumbling fields of charred ritualistic chanting and almost Abruptum-like states of psychotic noise. The first track 'Cover Your Mouth' crashes in on an avalanche of thrumming electricity and metallic noise, the crushing abstract heaviness collapsing in on itself, the rhythm section accentuating the rumbling black mass/mess with thunderous blasts of anti-propulsion. Trees have always seemed to have a somewhat improvisational feel to their extreme doom-laden horror, but just when you think that 'Cover' is on the verge of dissolving into a field of pure drone, the band unleashes titanic earth-scorching riffage. On 'Perish', the resonant sound of throat singing introduces a new wave of howling ambient feedback and speaker-hiss, but soon transforms into another twisted, agonized pain-dirge, those tortured vocals scraped raw, pain-wracked screams rising and falling behind the amorphous black sludge and diseased drones. Sickness in inhabits the same sort of black-tar depths as the likes of Burning Witch, Monarch, Khanate, and Bunkur while stripping the slo-mo heaviness into their own twisted, skeletal ( crucial blast )

    ULTHA

    Pain Cleanses Every Doubt

[engl] ULTHA's debut record features four epic songs of dark, moody Black Metal somewhere between the traditional Scandinavian school and a more contemporary US-Black Metal approach. “Pain Cleanses Every Doubt” is for fans of Ash Borer, Xasthur, Leviathan, Christicide, Blut Aus Nord... The four songs often vary in speed and mood, yet always functioning as one big entity. A constant feel of urging darkness is present. This manifests in the omnipresent melodies which lure the listener in and also in the sophisticated, metaphor ridden lyrics about melancholia, depression, doubt and anti-religious believes. The record was recorded in the bands rehearsal space only a few months after the band's initial first rehearsal. There is a fine balance of a cold, rough feel to a full and heavy sound, embodied in a very mature songwriting for such a young band.
