    ARROWWOOD

    Beautiful Grave

[engl] Heavy Carton Sleeve, 180g Virgin Vinyl, mastered and mixed by Eroc! Feat. Kim Larson from "Of The Wand & The Moon" and Pythagumus Marshall from "Novemthree"! Sometimes music tells you more about its creator than he himself could ever do. Chelsea Robb, born in Albion, now residing in the mystical north west of the USA already fits well with the image of an incarnated elementary spirit from her whole appearance and has opened the gates to the magical kingdom in a musical way. Gentle, ethereal and sometimes even ghostly haunting sounds, created on all acoustic instruments such as flute, hurdy gurdy, reed organ and several stringed instruments apart from the classic acoustic guitar build the fruitful soil for a mystifying vocal performance by Ms. Robb who also perfectly performs in a duet with an even more powerful male voice courtesy of NOVEMTHREE mastermind Pythagumus Marshall. An enchanting swarm of different rattles, timbers, bells and rainmakers comes buzzing around the melody patterns, only scarcely driven by an occasional hypnotical beat of a hand drum. The surreal beauty of this second full length album by the project under conduction of Chelsea Robb knows to enchant the listener every second and to tickle his senses. This way even soft, calm and dreamy music can be utterly exciting. The spell of the magic kingdom works well into our dimension through the music of ARROWWOOD.

    BIXBY, DAVE

    Ode to Quetzalcoatl (US Cover)

[engl] Since its discovery in the late 90s, Dave Bixby’s legendary $2000 private press album from 1969 is considered by all serious record collectors as the king in the loner/downer folk genre. After being involved in 60s Michigan folk and garage–rock bands such as The Shillelaghs and Peter & The Prophets, Bixby started playing acoustic guitar and experimenting with LSD. After a year of drug abuse he felt broken. Starting a soul–searching, spiritual journey, he wrote "Ode to Quetzalcoatl" and most of the material for his second album, Harbinger’s "Second Coming" in just one month and a half. Assisted by fellow musician Brian MacInness, who played some guitar parts on the album, Dave recorded "Quetzalcoatl" using a echo–laden four track machine in a flat’s living room. The sound is lo–fi and sparse: just acoustic guitars and some occasional harmonica & flute, added to Bixby’s haunting, emotional vocals, spiritual lyrics and solid songwriting. The opening cut, the eerie and painful "Drug Song" sets the mood perfectly for the rest of the album which contains more tormented titles like "666" , "Lonely faces", Open Doors", "Secret forest"...Never an acoustic folk album sounded so intense as this. Carefully remastered sound from vinyl (no master tapes exists) done at Shadoks Music Studios, insert with extensive and detailed liner notes by Matvei Procak – the guy who found Bixby in 2006 – plus some rare pictures.

    Some other morning

[engl] Related to Paradise Square, Cair Paravel was the second project of singer / songwriter Pete Ryder, a key player on two of the most rare and sought- after private folk albums from the UK. This time, the band recorded at a real studio and the result was ''Some Other Morning'', released in 1976 on the Koala label as a tiny edition of 250 copies (four stars rating in the Pokora book). Gorgeous, atmospheric folk with ethereal male- female vocals and magical atmosphere. Includes a superb cover of ''Hill climbing for beginners'', originally by Water Into Wine Band. First ever reissue of this top rarity with remastered sound, repro of the original lyrics insert plus new liner notes by Richard Allen (Shindig!).''Beautiful delicate British progressive folk featuring lovely female lead singing alternating with fragile male vocals that are imperfect yet charming. CHARLIE TWEDDLE

    Fantastic Greatest Hits

[engl] Born and raised in Kentucky but calling Northern California home for some time now, Charlie Tweddle is an outsider polymath: musician, artist, taxidermist, designer of cowboy hats. And while that last one (imagine a wearable ten-gallon peyote trip) brought him a degree of notoriety among a certain swath of the showbiz elite beginning in the early seventies (Cher and Reggie Jackson are fans of his hats), it’s his music that has been peaking the curiosity of underground and private press fiends for some years now. A beguiling patchwork of lo-fi country, warped folk, and way-gone found sounds, Tweddle’s 1974 self-released opus Fantastic Greatest Hits is back in print for the first time in decades. The estimable chronicler of all things underground and way out the late Patrick Lundborg dubbed Fantastic “one of the major pieces in the Fringe of Everything genre.” Indeed, the album is clearly the work of a rustic iconoclast following his own hidden path, yet there is something peculiarly inviting at play here as well. The A-side comes off like a lysergic hootenanny that shares as much in common with Mike Rep and first-generation Shrimper tapes on the one hand as it does with Townes Van Zandt and Mickey Newbury on the other; while the B-side is a sort of Americana concrète piece where the gentle beat of the earth takes over, full of crickets and the wind. Cosmic country indeed. Essentially impossible to find since its initial release, Fantastic has been lovingly reissued as a co-production from Mighty Mouth Music (who released Tweddle’s The Midnight Plowboy in 2012, a collection of slightly more straightforward but no less charmingly odd country tracks recorded in the 1990s) and Ever/Never Records. The double-LP gatefold set presents the original 1974 LP and a bonus LP of recently unearthed experiments from the early ‘70s. This is essential stuff for fans of psychedelic roots music, loner singer-songwriters, or just plain strange sounds.

    DELLO, PETE & FRIENDS

    Into Your Ears

[engl] Originally issued in 1971 by Nepentha Records – presided over by Kinks/Troggs manager Larry Page – Into Your Ears is the sole full–length offering from Honeybus founder member Pete Dello (assisted by a coterie of close friends). The album is a wonderful, timeless work of incisive, plaintive folk–pop balladry and buoyant, idiosyncratic creations, led along by Dello’s honeyed voice (which eases effortlessly into falsetto) and expertly executed arrangements featuring minor orchestrations. Into Your Ears represents the zenith of Dello’s songwriting, comprised primarily of tunes written specifically for this project (supplemented by a few tracks intended for Honeybus which were re–cut for the occasion). The songwriting reflects a jovial playfulness, but also feelings of intense lovelorn longing, hope, wistfulness and moments that could serve as a great soundtrack to a break–up (with the brightness of delivery never making them ache with depression). Everything on Into Your Ears comes from personal life experiences, even if twisted through a unique prism, with the deep emotions, whimsical moments and orchestration that never clutters the arrangements all achieving perfect balance. But, above all, the songs resonate with a pure dedication to "pop" and beckon you to listen in repetition, until they’re at one with your very existence. There’s something present, timeless and at times nearly indescribable about this very special set of songs that can’t be pinpointed by simple equation. Widely regarded by Honeybus fans, ’60s–’70s collectors and anyone who’s happened into its beatific orbit, Into Your Ears is a lost classic deserving of further exposure. RIYL: Ray Brooks, Duncan Browne, John Cale’s Paris 1919, Ray Davies (The Kinks), Bill Fay, Nick Garrie, the early careers of Ralph McTell and Clifford T. Ward, etc.

    DRANSFIELD, BARRY

    Barry Dransfield

[engl] In 1972, Barry Dransfield recorded his debut solo album. Just called ''Barry Dransfield'', the album is a real delight from start to finish. It features an array of traditional songs arranged by Barry, some original ones and some fantastic covers from people like Michael Hurley (''The werewolf'') and David Ackles (''Be my friend''). Sadly, the album was deleted just after nine months from his initial release, because it was released on Folk Mill, a Polydor sublabel created to enter the folk field, but the Polydor guys realized soon that this was not his business, and deleted their whole catalog immediately (including also the C.O.B. Moyshe McStiff? album). Needless to say, the album has become a true rarity and a collector's item since then. Record Hunter voted him ''the rarest folk album'' and Tapestry Of Delights book described it as ''along with Vashti Bunyan's ''Just a diamond day'', this debut solo album, full of enchanting folk, is one of the two most sought after major label folk albums''. This wonderful album was reissued some years ago in a limited vinyl run of 500 that were disappeared at the first day without even entering UK & USA stores, as it was sold entirely to Japan. Now we're very happy to announce our new reissue , plus an insert with linernotes. A stunning release to add to our no- filler growing catalog. Absolutely indispensable!

Features ?Happiness and tears?, a track selected by modern neo- folk / indie- rock stars Midlake for their ?Late Night Tales? mix. ELIWAGAR

    I Volven's Vev

[engl] ELIWAGAR is a pagan folk band formed in France in 2006, relocated to Norway after a couple of albums and with a fair amount of releases ever since. "I Vølven's Vev" is their eleventh full length effort. Therefore you can expect a matured songwriting culminating in anthems of extramundane beauty. The main focus lies on haunting yet memorable vocal melodies with an utterly peaceful and joyful atmosphere. Around the mystical atmosphere, Eliwagar weaves a subtle harmony network with a steady hypnotizing drive. Most of the tracks feature bewitched percussion, acoustic guitar, flute and natural sounds like the whispering wind the waves rolling on the rough Nordic shore. These are backed by the enchanting voice of Brenda Runahild, the front woman behind Eliwagar. The songs drag you into a dreamy state and make you think of druids and heathen ceremonies. This is by far one of the most outstanding gems in the pagan folk genre and on par with great acts such as fellow Norwegians WARDRUNA (despite ELIWAGAR are more melodic and dreamy), IN GOWAN RING (just with an emphasize on Norwegian folk) or FAUN. Eliwagar knows how to create a whole world of mystical sounds that unfold in front your inner eyes and ears. Sound and performance are as brilliant as the compositions themselves. A giant masterpiece of current pagan folk music!

    FLIBBERTIGIBBET

    Whistling Jigs To The Moon

[engl] Originally released in South Africa in 1978, “Whistling Jigs To The Moon” is not only a very rare and sought-after album but also a wonderful collection of traditional and original folk tunes with a strong Celtic influence. Featuring Alison O’ Donnell and David Williams from psych-folk legends MELLOW CANDLE. In 1974, following the break-up of Mellow Candle, Alison and David arrived to South Africa. Once there, they met a couple of fellow expat musicians, Barrie Glenn and Jo Dudding, forming Flibbertigibbet in a niche folk and traditional circle of immigrant and local musicians, building up a repertoire of tunes and songs both original and traditional. They appeared at evenings held in communal houses, at folk nights and the Boksburg Folk Club. Producer David Marks offered to release their album and launch it in a series of concerts at the renowned Market Theatre. They enlisted the help of a number of fine musicians on the recording, namely classical first violinist Francesco Cignoli, jazz bassist Denis Lalouette, Nippy Cripwell on string bass, Colin Shapiro on flute and Dave Lambert on fiddle. “Whistling Jigs To The Moon” saw the light in 1978.

    GWYDION

    The Faerie Shaman

[engl] Gwydion Pendderwen is one of the more chatoyant figures of the folk music underground and it is a shame actually that we have to label his works underground for what he laid down on both of his albums “Songs For The Old Religion” (1975) and “The Faerie Shaman” (1982). It was far above the average standard folk of his time, especially on this, his second album from 1982. The confessing neo paganist and environmentalist tried a different path seven years after his rather haunting debut album by mixing bluegrass, country, gospel and dixie into the classic folky singer / songwriter tunes of enchanting beauty. Most of the time the atmosphere on this album is rather friendly and lightweight in the sense of bright melodies and a cheerful mood on most tunes. Just take a walk in spirit through the garden of sound created by the delicate arrangements and rich, mostly acoustic instrumentation. Will you ever wish to return to what people consider as reality? I would doubt that. GWYDION for certain has the one and another moment of melancholy and musing but this is just a little shade of evening, the moment when the sky turns dark blue and the two worlds come as close as they could. This album breathes a flamy joy of life and you would not think it was shortly after that Gwydion Pendderwen lost his life in a car accident. The music presented on “The Faerie Shaman” literally swallows you like a river and you may ride like a Valkyrie upon the raging waters or dive deep inside and be enchanted by the magic world beyond the surface. This should have been a classic and it is a real gem for fans of PLANXTY, HAMISH IMLACH, DULCIMER, PENTANGLE and STEELEYE SPAN.

The comparisons with Conor Oberst or Ryan Adams are still justified, and Sam Bodary could hardly wish for better references. HOFFMAN, KAY

    Floret Silva

[engl] Sounding at times like Vashti Bunyan fronting Sunforest, "Floret Silva" is a haunting mix of medieval music and progressive / psych / folk with Latin lyrics straight from the Carmina Burana book. The "Floret Silva" project was born when minimalist composer Kay Hoffman went to Italy in the mid- 70s. Once there, she met with welsh soprano Jacqueline Darby, who had recently been working with the Italian avant- prog band Pierrot Lunaire. Jaqueline was working on new compositions with RCA producer Vincento Miccocci in Rome and she asked Kay if she was interested in getting involved in a new project. Kay agreed and Gaio Chiochio and Arturo Stalteri of Pierrot Lunaire also joined them on this new venture. Gaio travelled from Rome to play the guitar and other friends of Jacqueline also offered their collaboration. In a short time, Kay wrote all the material, inspired by the Carmina Burana book and her love of Medieval and Renaissance music. Kay also contributed vocals, clavinet and piano and together with Jacqueline Darby - on haunting vocals - plus an impressive cast of jazz/rock/progressive musicians, they recorded "Floret Silva" during 1977- 78, under the guidance of Vicento Micocci. Sadly, RCA backed off and the album went unreleased until a copy of the masters found their way to Japan, where the great Belle Antique label put out the first vinyl edition of "Floret Silva" in 1985. In 2006, US label Robot Records resurrected it again for the first CD release. After many years out of print on vinyl, we present a new edition of this lost piece from the 70s Italian underground scene. A visionary album which anticipated the sound practiced by many neo- folk bands some decades later.

    LOGOS

    Firesides and guitars

[engl] Logos ''Firesides and Guitars'' was one of the most enigmatic private albums from the US. Housed in a sparse cover with little info, it was released in tiny quantities on the collectable Audio House label (home also of Smack). Nothing was known about the band until now: they were an obscure folk- rock trio from Kansas, comprised of 16- year- old Steve Epley plus brothers Chris and Cindy Williams. Their sound was charming, home- made folk- rock full of youthful innocence with layers of dual acoustic guitars and refreshing male- female vocals, featuring an impressive set of self- penned songs. Comparisons bring to mind Crosby Still & Nash or Shadrack Chameleon.

    MADDEN AND HARRIS

    Fools paradise

[engl] Dave Madden and Peter Harris were a teacher / pupil folk duo from Sidney who in 1975 recorded and self- released this progressive / psychedelic folk- rock masterpiece. British influenced sound with lots of mellotron, vintage keyboards, strings, drums, fuzz bursts, dreamy vocals, etc, containing an impressive 20- minute long suite which has to be heard to be believed.

    MARK FRY

    Dreaming With Alice

[engl] This album has been quite an obscurity already by the time of its release. Recorded by 19 year old Mark Fry for an Italian sub label of RCA it presented a beautifully naive kind of psychedelic folk similar to what the INCREDIBLE STRING BAND laid down at the same time just a bit more straight forwarded. We saw originals in good condition go for about 1600 Euros already, therefore such a reissue is always welcome among fans of totally psyched out music, done by mostly acoustic instrumentation and vocals. Young Mark enchants his listeners with dreamy vocal melodies of utter beauty which create an outmost peaceful atmosphere. The picturesque tunes take you onto a trip out to the English countryside on a gentle and warm spring morning and into a fairytale world. You might get lost within this colorful dream and not be willing to return to grey reality anymore but this music indeed burns on as the flame of love within your heart. The direction despite all psychedelic elements is definitely determined by British folk music of the 60's and 70's. One charmingly odd aspect of the album is that the title track has been split up over the whole album as short sections flanking the longer tunes. I cannot recall anybody else ever doing that, so this is making this nifty little record a unique effort. If you are a fan of PERRY LEOPOLD or the above mentioned INCREDIBLE STRING BAND this record will fulfill your wildest dreams but will also please those into STEELEYE SPAN, WOODS BAND or PENTANGLE. Mark Fry plays his acid folk from the bottom of his soul without thinking about satisfying the demands of the mainstream audience. This is a must have for all fans of acid folk from the late 60s to the early 70s era. This music is intriguing, keen and absolutely one of a kind with a mood changing from rainy days to sunny mornings out in the meadows.
