BLACKBURN, JOHNNY & MARY LAUREN
Echoes of love's reality
[engl] Most would probably agree that this is one of the very best psych- style LPs from the 1980s. Not retro at all but (like Bobb Trimble) a piece of the late 1960s preserved from time's rust. Male/female vocals lament and serenade the quest for knowledge of love and beauty in an appealing soundscape, with lyrical guitar leads throughout, good use of mellotron, occasional tablas, flute and bells. The recording has a definite 1981 sound but (again, like Bobb Trimble) this somehow becomes an advantage. There's not a questionable song on this album, recommended to anyone open for a soft, dreamy trip inside the melancholy and bliss of an acid- tinted romance.'''' (The Acid Archives). High- quality reissue in 180g vinyl, nice carton with original artwork, unbeatable remastered sound quality and also including the huge 16- paged booklet with lyrics and drawings. 500 copies limited release.- Format

Blind Ravage
[engl] Blind Ravage were formed in Montreal in the late Sixties by well- seasoned musicians, including keyboard virtuoso Serge Fleury and ace guitar player Jean Charbonneau. Nine original songs plus a killer hard- rock version of ''Susie Q''. Here's the first ever vinyl reissue, featuring remastered sound and insert with linernotes.- Format

BRAIN POLICE
San Diego's only psychedelic cops
[engl] San Diegos only psychedelic cops is how this brilliant California band presented theirselves in their promo posters. Psychedelic they certainly were, though they might better be described as a British influenced garage- psychedelic band perhaps. They recorded a demo LP back in 1968, in plain white cover, which is a top rarity only living in a few of the warmest collectors? houses. Unavailable for some time now on vinyl, heres a welcome new reissue of this powerful organ- guitar garage rock beauty. Comes in a silk- screened fabric bag, insert and 180g vinyl. BUNALIM
Bunalim
[engl] Turkish band Bunalim (Turkish for ''Depression'') is a true legend: they were the absolute wildest and crudest band from the Anatolian Rock scene. Under the wing of Cem Karaça, who was their manager and producer, they released a few singles which are all collected here. Fierce Turkish folk flavoured psychedelic- fuzz rock circa 1970- 72. Remastered sound, insert with liner notes and pictures. ''Even more brain- blasted than Erkin Koray's deliberately underground band that lived in a house together (Yeralti Dörtlüsü), these dirty nude guys were in all ways hairy, and they stacked their Selmer amplifiers just as high as any rock band you could name. Drink up the John Bonham drum fills, evil Sabbath guitar, and sickly brooding organ.'' (Angela Sawyer, Weirdo Records, USA)- Format

From Lemon Drops To Acid Rock
[engl] From the ashes of 60s garage band The Lemon Drops comes power trio Buzzsaw with their loud heavy- psych sound. In the late 60s, The Lemon Drops, one of the finest garage- psych bands from Chicago (of ''I Live in the Springtime'' fame), relocated to the West Coast, where they gigged around and tried to secure a record contract. After a three- day ''strawberry acid party'' at manager Dan Herron's mansion, the original band disintegrated. And that's when power trio Buzzsaw was born, featuring Eddie and Gary Weiss (both Ex- Lemon Drops) on guitar / drums respectively and Rick Fertel on bass. Buzzsaw was the perfect vehicle for Eddie Weiss (whose use of fuzz & distortion was the trademark sound of The Lemon Drops) to push his guitar and effect pedals to the limit. The trio used to visit ''Starhill'', Neil Young's old sawmill in La Honda, where they rehearsed & wrote songs. The photo used for the front cover on this album was taken there. In 1971, Max Weiss (Creedence Clearwater Revival's manager) expressed interest in the band, so Buzzsaw entered Ampex Studios in San Francisco (the place where CCR had recorded ''Suzie Q'') to lay down some tracks. They also recorded some material at Pacific Sound Studios. All of these recordings were produced by Roger Weiss, the original producer of The Lemon Drops and co- owner of Rembrandt Records. Sadly, Buzzsaw only released one 45 during their short lifespan. And it was a frustrating release, as it included a recording from the Lemon Drops era on the A- Side backed with a new song which didn't reflect the real sound of the band on the B- Side. That 45 went nowhere, Buzzsaw split and the recordings they did at Ampex and Pacific Studios remained unreleased until 1995, when some of them were included on ''From Lemon Drops To Acid Rock'', a Buzzsaw CD compilation by Cicadelic Records. Our Buzzsaw double vinyl retrospective includes all the tracks from the previous ''From Lemon Drops To Acid Rock'' CD plus some amazing recently discovered acetates and unreleased master tapes. The music is orgasmic '71 heavy- psych / proto- grunge in the style of Hendrix and Blue Cheer with killer fuzz- wah guitar and melodic vocals. Eddie's guitar sound is just insane?despite the vintage '71 date, some of his playing would not be out of place on a High Rise or Ty Segall album. Fully licensed. Remastered sound from the original tapes and acetates.- Format

C.A. QUINTET
Live Trips 1971
[engl] Their 1969 album ?Trip thru hell? is one of the holy grails of late 60s heavy psych rock and certainly deserves to be rated this way by fans and collectors of that heavy rocking sounds. Due to the internet it easily made its way to the minds of a whole new generation of fans already. What awaits you here got recorded live, two years later than their cult debut. The record starts with a unusual BEATLES cover ?And your bird can sing?, originally from ?Revolver? in 1966. You do not even realize it is the said song until you hear a familiar passage. The C.A. Quintet turned it into a groovy, smoking hot organ driven power rocker with a melodic edge. With the second covertune ?Badge? originally performed by CREAM they stay closer to the original but play it with an increased powerlevel . Next ?Bayou jam?, a lengthy heavy rock song with psychedelic organ sounds that remind of IRON BUTTERFLY. If you cross them with BLUE CHEER in their prime you will get an idea. There is even a killer drum solo section in the middle of the song. Who said ?In a gada da vida?? Well, you definitely get to know where they got their inspiration from. ?4 am NYC? is another mid paced stomping heavy groover with a wickedly pounding approach and simmering guitars while the organs roar as a back up to the furiously distorted guitar. The vocals on the other hand have this light weight west coast flower power pop appeal and both directions sound fresh and exciting in the mix. ?Wild child? comes as a sleazy acid blues rocker and takes you a few years back. Despite the nice organ it is obviously that they loved bands like CREAM, JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE and MOUNTAIN. ?Country boy? has a southern rock flavor and sticks out as I think but is also a well written power rock tune with some psychedelic elements. The colorful jammy middle section and the hard driving bass and guitar interplay make this a kick ass anthem for its time. And last but not least we have ?Fresh garbage jam?. More than ten minutes in length this is heavy and fuzzed out psychedelic jam rock at best with furious guitars and a relaxed atmosphere. Makes me see a whole crowd of hippies in colorful garments dancing themselves into a state of trance - funnily that's quite contrary to what happened in reality. you can read more about that in the linernotes on the backsleeve. The sound is great, as clear as it can be, powerful and vivid, better than some of the studio recordings back then. What more do you want? If you love the underground side of US hardrock like JOSEFUS, FRESH BLUEBERRY PANCAKE, STONEWALL, etc. then this is the thing for you!- Format

[engl] Related to Paradise Square, Cair Paravel was the second project of singer / songwriter Pete Ryder, a key player on two of the most rare and sought- after private folk albums from the UK. This time, the band recorded at a real studio and the result was ''Some Other Morning'', released in 1976 on the Koala label as a tiny edition of 250 copies (four stars rating in the Pokora book). CHRISTOPHER
Christopher
[engl] Christopher were an underground acid rock trio featuring future Josefus drummer Doug Tull. They evolved from United Gas, a psychedelic band from Houston who rubbed shoulders with legends like The 13th Floor Elevators and Moving Sidewalks . After relocating to Los Angeles, where they changed his name to Christopher, they played at numerous biker parties and recorded their sole album in 1970 for the Metromedia label. Its an amazing example of West Coast psychedelia / acid- rock featuring strong fuzz- wah guitar, great compositions and superb musicianship. Terrific cover depicting the band at the same hippie crash- pad where some scenes from the The Trip movie were filmed. One of the holy grails of American psychedelic- rock and the rarest album originally released by the collectable Metromedia label. Newly remastered sound, original artwork, insert with liner notes.- Format

The Enormous Midnight and Nine Other Nocturnes
[engl] Clyde and the Nightswingers came together to record the Theme song for a 1967 “Art Film.” If LSD ingested during a gathering of members of the U.S. Air Force and delinquent girls is your idea of an Art Film, then the only way to see it is to close your eyes and let The Enormous Midnight seep into your brain. The film is lost, but Nightswinger sounds are found on this Arcania International LP. Sounds kind of psychedelic, yes. But there’s more to the story and indeed a story it is. For the most part we hear a Garage band that seems to have been dropped into a vat of acid, then coming out as if totally Psyched! So – experimentation! That adds to a lost, M.I.A. quality, with a folkie (Clyde) trying his best to conjure up “lyrics as art” while singing/screaming them across this entire album. Yes, this tells a story, but despite death wish words and a long night of the soul, it ends happily. Because it’s just a (fuzzy/feedback/explosive/electrical) dream. But not music to go to sleep to.- Format

COOLEY - MUNSON
In debt
[engl] Bill Cooley and Alan Munson were two friends in Santa Barbara, California, living their early twenties writing folk- rock songs for their pleasure. That was 1972, and they decided to put these songs into studio, autoproduce the album and press a tiny quantity of 500 pieces hoping it could help getting a contract with a major company. This never happened, and as you would have guessed, this fact helped to make their sole album, ?In Debt?, a major collectable item with the folk- rock and psychedelic rock listeners and collectors. Today, original copies of this record fetch quite interesting sums when changing hands in record fairs or internet auctions. Being a private pressing, you can easily imagine its not a big production, but no care. This album has the right feel and you won?t need anything else to make it one of your recent faves. All tracks are original compositions, and the style is very personal. Its folk- rock, but many tracks are quite psychedelic too, in their own way. But don?t look close for influences, they will not come to mind that easily?. Bill and Alan had their own psychedelic folk- rock style, and the raw, sometimes amateurish feel that these recordings have, give the album the final distinctive touch. Never reissued before in any format, now here we come with a splendid reissue, with the collaboration of the guys. Remastered sound taken from the original mastertapes, and including an insert with linernotes and unseen pictures. Dig that amazing artwork too! A must!Alan Munson kept going the folk- rock way and released two solo albums during the 70s too, which we are also re- releasing along with ?In Debt?.- Format

It Crawled Out Of The Vaults Of KSAN 1966-1968 - Volume 3: Live At The Avalon Ballroom 1967 & 68
[engl] This series of live albums comes from the KSAN radio station vaults and features material recorded and broadcasted at several occasions at either the Filmore Auditorium or the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco during the years 1966 to 1968. Some of the hottest rock bands of the era got captured there on tape. Now we move straight to ?Vol. 3? of this series and it begins with a set of three songs by none less than COUNTRY JOE & THE FISH fronted by legendary singer / songwriter and former G.I. Country Joe McDonald who created the probably most notorious Anti Vietnam War tune ever, ?I feel like I'm fixin to die? which is unfortunately not included here. Three songs build the first half of the A Side of which the first two can be located on the studio versions on the 1967 albums ?Electric music for the mind and body? and ?I-feel-like-I-m-fixin-to-die?. The ?H ? Bomb ? Song? is a cool acid-gospel tune with a pure jam around the actual song. Next come THE BYRDS with another three tunes from their ?Younger than yesterday?, ?The Notoriouos Byrd Brothers? and ?Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde?, some very stoned announcements and a little discussion if they might play another song which in the end happens to the excitement of the audience. MOBY GRAPE whose founding formation featured Alexander ?Skip? Spence, former drummer of JEFFERSON AIRPLANE rage through a set of kicking power rock, psychedelic blues and jam tunes. The last track features their friends BIG BROTHER & THE HOLDING COMPANY. This whole album perfectly aligns the spirit of the day when the world stood at the edge of the third world war which partly got fought in South East Asia already and thousands of young Americans died in the jungle while on the other side of the ocean a whole generation of youngsters stood up to free themselves and generations to move away from the strict traditions. So this album does not only guarantee musical joy in abundance but also takes you back to a time when the young minded were more determined to go new and better ways and everything seemed possible for everything was free to be tried. The music here is a proof how songs can work as a vehicle that carries your spirit everywhere. The sound once again is rough but clear, the performances of all three bands are way more loose as those on their studio tracks but this precisely is the final ingredient to make this album a memorable and well loved experience.- Format

Çoban Mamos
[engl] Turkish Bar or Bengi folk dancing requires approximately 100 people to do properly, and it helps if a lot of them are eating wedding cake. You put your arms around the shoulders of the people on either side of you, and then stomp around in a circle, facing in and kicking the air, until everybody is exhausted and happy. Far away from any folklore festivals, Derdiyoklar hand- built the soundtrack to this dancing as it was drunkenly executed by luckless German- Turkish immigrants in the fashion- insensitive 80s. And though the band had only two members, they decided electric saz, synthesized drums, cimbalom, and sheep sound effects were all needed to get the job done. Who could argue? This tinkly and psychoactive album, full of uniquely odd overdubs and buzzy, flanged- out guitar solos, can now be yours. First time ever reissue.
