(streetclip – Sir Lord Doom)

    SHOCK

    Shock!

[engl] We are very excited to present what it's for us the major discovery in the Spanish Psych- Prog collector scene: a previously unreleased album from 1970 by this obscure Spanish garage- psych band. Until now, Shock were a total mystery. They only released one 45 back at the time (the killer acid- fuzz punker ''No se puede ser Superman'') and nothing was known about the band...until we tracked them down. We discovered that prior to their 45 release, they recorded a whole album which was never released. Shock's music is underground garage- psychedelia with crude acid- fuzz guitar, effects, English vocals...think of Agua de Regaliz, early Pan & Regaliz, Cerebrum or even obscure Brazilian bands such as Tobruk but with a more primitive sound. The album features ten songs including the original versions of the two tracks later re- recorded for their only 45: ''No se puede ser Superman'' (titled here ''I'm being mad'', it's a different and superior English sung version) and ''I want to laugh'' (a longer version than the one included on the 45). Remastered from the original 2- track tape (which is unfortunately not in perfect condition, but more than good enough), insert with detailed liner notes in English / Spanish, 180gr vinyl. CD comes with colour booklet.

Agitated is pleased to announce release of the long awaited debut album from these pioneers of the happening sound soon to be known to the masses as BUBBLEGRUNGE! Yes, believe it! Dirty amps tweaked to a happenin’ rhythm and floorshaking beat, eviscerating the soul of your tired and over-referenced Nuggets comps and bustin’ you loose with some wild grunt and grind! The songs may be familiar, but you will be too furiously wigging out to even care who or what wrote them in the first place! It's an ever-lovin' tribute to the bubblegum greats of yore! The Beatles! The Monkees! Paul Revere! Tommy James! Flipper! And more! “Probably the Koolest thing that’s ever happened on this planet!"

    Stone Garden

[engl] Stone Garden were a heavy psychedelic band from the Midwest, famous releasing in 1969 one of the best heavy- psych 45s ever, ?Oceans inside me?, for the same label as the legendary Fraction (Angelus). Between 1969 and 1971 they also recorded a bunch of tracks which never saw the light of day until the mid- 90s, when the great Rockadelic label issued them in a limited edition vinyl album. Out of print for many years, we present a new edition of the Stone Garden album featuring new artwork and insert with lot of pictures and liner notes. Furious, ultra- primitive hard- psychedelic rock in Sabbath and Blue Cheer vein, highly recommended to anyone into obscure 70s doom and hard- rock sounds.

    STONE HARBOUR

    Emerges

[engl] The absolute king of lo–fi basement psychedelia, originally released as a private pressing in 1974 by this duo from Ohio. From dreamy melancholic tracks to insane fuzzed–out heavy psych ones. "Two multi–instrumentalists creating a melancholic dreamlike state with songs fading in and out of the speakers, cavemen drums, primitive electronics and murky fuzz lurking in the background. The best tracks go into places no other albums reach"– Patrick Lundborg (Acid Archives). " ’Emerges’ as in slowly from the primordial sludge of the universe. ’Emerges’ like a slow, slouching spectre hauling itself out of the swamps. But then what’s a boy to do? It’s 1974, you’re young and have a head full of Hawkwind and Roky and the Elevators, old brutalist blues in the Hound Dog Taylor / Fred McDowell backwoods whisky–fucked mode, freakfolk and LSD; you’re stuck in Hicksville, USA – that’s Youngstown, Ohio to you lot; the music scene sucks; glam’s dead or dying slowly; punk a good year of so from even starting to get itself born. Town’s too damn small to even muster up a band in. It’s just and your buddy and that’s it, man. So you grows your hair and wear satin, wander wide–eyed and tripping across small town railway tracks and hang loose at the weekend in your basement. You gather a bunch if cheapo instruments on the never–never and you start cutting low–fi bedroom demos. Slowly, slowly Stone Harbour emerge. Stone Harbour were Ric Ballas – electric, acoustic and slide guitars; organ; piano; synthesizers; bass guitar percussion and voice – and Dave McCarty – lead vocals, drums and percussion... and out of nowhere and nothing, at entirely the wrong time, they cut an LP that will blow your head clean off. This is a trip into the true dark heart of psychedelia. The music? What can I tell you? ’You’ll be a star’ shimmers and aches in the midnight; cymbals wash over you, Dave McCarty’s vocals emerge from some subterranean cave and the keyboards flicker, flicker, flash across the periphery of the song; ’Rock & Roll Puzzle’ is dark, twisted fried garage punk blues brutality in the same mould as ’White Faces’ or ’Cold Night for Alligators’, pre–empting The Gories and Pussy Galore by a good ten years!! "Who invented rock & roll? And who invented soul? Was it you or was it me?" Indeed. Songs fade in and out; finger–picking blurs into screaming squeiching synths; guitars melt in the mid–summer heat. ’Grains of Sand’ frazzles like The Stooges through a fucked–up amp and filtered through a transistor radio with the valves burning out. ’Thanitos’ is the freak–out ending of ’Julia’s Dream’ lost in suburban downtown US of A with the taillights cutting on the freeway... whilst ’Summer Magic is Gone’ is the most haunted, haunting song I’ve heard in many a long strange moon. Shimmers like stars in the 2am fug and haze and bleeds lost and lonely and bruised into the heat–warped dawn. You’re still awake though the brain don’t work like it used to. Blurred and bleary and exhilarated and stoned the very core of the soul. Best record I’ve heard all year." – Hugh Dellar (Shindig!)

    It's Happening

[engl] Agitated are pleased to confirm the UK and European release of Straight Arrows IT?S HAPPENING! Originally released in 2010 via Rice is Nice, this is the first time the record will be available in the UK/EU with the first 500 copies of (250 LP and 250 CD) coming with a bonus CD of old singles, demos, and live scuzz. First vinyl pressing is 250 coloured vinyl, and comes with the 14 track bonus cd. first 250 CDs come with the 14 track bonus cd also. Recorded within the realms of MEDIUM FIDELITY at HANGING TREE - Tim Done?s home/studio/archaic equipment museum - using all the 1950s equipment available has resulted in a record where almost all the instruments can be heard. Add in Brent Griffin/SPOD to the mix with his injection of fuzzed out reverberating budget psychedelia and IT?S HAPPENING! was born. Straight Arrows began with Owen Penglis yelling about getting dumped and kicked out of bands into a four-track cassette. He was soon joined by Alex Grigg, Angela Bermuda and Adam Williams - all friends with colourful musical pasts. Slowly the four honed their reverb-laden, fuzzed out, punk garage into scrappy perfection. Finding it tough to get shows, Straight Arrows went down the DIY path and decided to put on their own raucous parties at New South Wales? notorious (and now abandoned) gay bar, The Newtown Hotel. Around the same time they put out their first 7? ?Something Happens/Can?t Count? on their newly formed label Juvenile Records. Figuring the only way to sell these records (and make their money back) was to force them, photocopied sleeve ?n all, into the hands of drunks and connoisseurs. Straight Arrows started driving up and down the east coast of Australia, playing parties, warehouses, bars - wherever they could - and in the process gained an outstanding reputation for being ??the band that will make you start your own band??. By late 2010 Straight Arrows sold out two more 7s, toured with friends Thee Oh Sees, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, The Black Lips, Jay Reatard (RIP) and Ty Segall amongst others and released their debut album It?s Happening to a flood of praise, landing them an invite to perform at the Goner Fest in Memphis, Tennessee playing alongside garage punk royalty The Gories. Bands began to queue-up for Owen Penglis to record and produce their music at his home studio and in 2012 Owen produced and recorded the who?s who of Sydney / Brisbane Garage scene for the 40th Anniversary tribute album to the seminal Nuggets compilation, originally compiled by Lenny Kaye (Patti Smith band).

    Rising

[engl] Rising is Straight Arrows’ new album half of which was recorded in frontman Owen Penglis’ house and the other half in his new, legitimate studio, set up after a neighbour started getting mad about all the quality 'medium fidelity' recordings happening next door. Straight Arrows began with Owen Penglis yelling about getting dumped and kicked out of bands into a four-track cassette machine in his bedroom. Joined by friends Alex Grigg, Angela Bermuda, and Adam Williams with colourful musical pasts, the four have honed their reverb-laden, fuzzed out, DIY punk garage into scrappy perfection and, in the process gained an outstanding reputation for being ‘‘the band that will make you start your own band’’. Since their inception Straight Arrows have pressed and sold out of internationally released 7”s, toured with friends Thee Oh Sees, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, The Black Lips, Jay Reatard (RIP) and Ty Segall and released their debut album ‘It’s Happening’ (Agitated, 2013) to a flood of praise. Bagging Album Of The Week from the likes of Australian radio stations FBi, 2SER, RTR and 3RRR, the record also landed them an invite to perform at the hugely respected Gonerfest in Memphis, Tennessee and a few rounds of touring the USA and Europe. Bands have been queuing up to have Owen Penglis record and produce their music – the likes of Royal Headache, Circle Pit, Living Eyes, The Frowning Clouds, The Gooch Palms have all used his bathroom and in 2012 Owen produced and recorded the who’s who of the Australian Garage scene for a 40th Anniversary tribute to the hugely influential Nuggets compilation. Rising is an exciting follow up to ‘It’s Happening’ and sees the band step things with their warm and dirty garage pop sound. For fans of: Pebbles, Nuggets, Lollipop Shoppe, Kinks, and all that Brit-Invasion sound, but also all the new slew of garage chug, Oh Sees, Ty Segall, Black Lips…

    SUPERSEMPFFT

    Metaluna

[engl] The avant-garde Kraut ensemble Supersempfft laid the foundation for their techno-tropical pop music in 1979 with their debut album "Roboterwerke." In 1981, they followed up with the album "Metaluna," which is now being honored through a re-release on Bureau B. The group, consisting of Dieter Kolb, Franz Knüttel, and Franz Aumüller, fused global in?uences, experimental sonic landscapes, and surreal lyrics into a unique sonic cosmos. "Metaluna" stands out with its meandering sequences, unconventional rhythms, and psychedelic songwriting that remains groundbreaking even decades later. We live in the data rich days of the Internet age, when globalisation and mass communication have trivialised time and space, and fusion as follows, is now commonplace. While the entire world’s art and in?uences stream through your digital consciousness, any odd assemblage of creative diaspora makes just as much sense as the next – another eddy in the grand churn of genre-?uidity. As such, this Bureau B reissue of Supersempfft’s superb ‘Metaluna’ is particularly pertinent for a couple of key reasons. Firstly, that this collaborative AV ensemble laid down the template for techno-tropical pop way back in ‘81, an astonishing achievement which broke ground musically, culturally and technologically; and secondly, that the rest of us have ?nally found them in the future, and can at last move in time to their animated groove. Supersempfft is at once a star-sailing frog enjoying cartoon chaos around a cosmic Caribbean, and also the multi-disciplinary miscellany of a trio of school friends who never lost that youthful penchant for play. The postmodern project comprised of musical genius, Dieter Kolb, computer whiz Franz Knüttel and the boundlessly creative Franz Aumüller, whose vibrant visuals and surreal lyrics situated their sound in a universe all of its own. Operating out of the basement of Dieter’s parents’ instrument shop, the band began to explore their interests and share their talents with no consideration of a commercial goal. Rejecting rock from the off, Kolb dove into his love of global styles, surfacing only to borrow display models from upstairs which were swiftly modi?ed by Knüttel to reveal bold electronic possibilities beyond their intended use. Recognising his own shortcomings behind the kit, Knüttel built his own drum machine, Roboterwerke, which piqued the interest of Kraftwerk, Herbie Hancock and Tangerine Dream, and piece-by-piece their kaleidoscopic pop began to coalesce. The industry soon took notice, and a debut album emerged on CBS in ’79, though didn’t score the sales it deserved. After the ?rst album, Kolb and Aumüller’s love of reggae and dub took them on a transatlantic trip to Trinidad and Tobago under the false assumption that all the islands stepped to the Jamaican style. Any momentary disappointment was soon dispelled by the liveliness and optimism of calypso and soca, and a life af?rming experience at carnival left them awestruck and inspired. Back home, they began work on ‘Metaluna’, a wild combination of roving sequences, tropical rhythms, squashed brass and yearning vocals which sprints, skanks and soars through ten triumphant tracks. Amid the metallic beats and interplanetary idents lurk sublime melodies and soulful motifs, psychedelic songwriting reminiscent of Barrett, Beefheart or Brian Wilson at their best. In their dubbier moments, Supersempfft sound like Lee Perry jamming on an alien console, with wild panning and delirious FX suggesting a sound clash on a distant planet. Meanwhile the arcade exuberance, vocoder gospel and space age ballads predate the sweltering synth-pop of The Knife, Hot Chip and Ariel Pink by a full two decades, setting a bar that their successors still fail to meet. Even if you expect the unexpected, there’s still room for one looney tune to take you by surprise as the jazzy “Farewell Goodbye” sinks the Cole Porter songbook in the nearest wormhole. Innovative, experimental yet still heavy on the hooks, ‘Metaluna’ is both a jubilant expression of its creators’ tastes and a masterclass in mercurial pop - a success of self-expression which proves once again that the best bands play for themselves.

    SUSAN CHRISTIE

    Paint A Lady

[engl] A mythical and misplaced masterpiece of lost soft rock and acidic folk funk by a one-hit wonderer lost in the wilderness for four decades. From the producer of Margo Guryan, writer behind Wool, Gerry Mulligan collaborator, Tarantino soundtracker and Wendy & Bonnie confidant, Paint A Lady now emerges from folkloric obscurity, to bring a wash of soft psychedelic colour to your vinyl collection and quench the repeat requests of a thirsty new found audience waiting for the rain. Within certain record collecting circles, especially those who gather under the umbrella that covers fragile niches like “acid folk” and “soft rock”, it’s difficult to imagine a time when the legendary Susan Christie album didn’t exist. When Finders Keepers Records first shared the unheard 60’s songs like Paint A Lady, For The Love Of A Soldier and Echoes In Your Mind with a wide-eyed audience thirsty for organic soul and festival friendly acoustic funk, Susan’s new found fan base instantly felt like they had known these songs all of their lives, and with a single needle drop we saw the birth of what could rightfully be described as an “instant classic”. Which is why it’s hard to believe that the music on this lost 60s acetate was only pressed 12 years ago. As our lucky seventh release in an international discography that now surpasses the 100 mark (and one of a small clutch of English language recordings on the label) Paint A Lady has slowly become one of our most requested re-releases, and with this 2018 edition it is technically accurate to say that this pressing is the first-ever reissue of this elusive and essential LP. The oft over used term mythical applies to this album on many levels. Perhaps it’s the woozy nostalgia found within the pop craft of Paint A Lady that has led to false rumours that original 1960’s copies used to exist on the collectors market, or the bizarre claim that songs like the head-nodding title track, and the acid-drenched sound effects on Yesterday Where’s My Mind were just a product of a contemporary studio band trying to create a fake folk funk red herring. As a result Susan Christie and her producer and husband of 40 years, John Hill have happily taken the repeat phrase “unbelievable” as a compliment to their songwriting skills and foresight. In all fairness, with a decade to ponder, the original 1969 song titles alone do seem custom-built for the nostalgia market… No One Can Hear You Cry might lament the unrequited yearning for a record deal which never quite followed Susan’s won one-hit wonder novelty hit I Love Onions; similarly When Love Comes might allude to the subsequent 35 year wait for the right label to eventually come along. Echoes In Your Mind and the aforementioned Yesterday… could easily allude to the haunting melodies that sat in the can on John Hill’s studio shelf while his projects for Margo Guryan, Wool and Pacific Gas & Electric sat proudly in record racks before benefitting successful French cover versions or making their way on to Quentin Tarantino soundtracks. The track Paint A lady itself, complete with it’s future-proofed sample-worthy rhythm section, seems like the perfect title for a mock rock pseudo psych contender – at which point you eventually step back and see the bigger picture. These guys were simply one drop too far ahead of their time; a family force of experimental pop perfection that late 60’s America simply wasn’t ready for. It is just over 12 years since champion record rustler Keith D’Arcy (who you’ll meet on the inside sleeve) stumbled upon one of the original acetates that led to the final release of Paint A Lady, and it’s almost a longer 50 years since Susan and John added their final touches to these recordings which tragically went into hibernation for over four decades. Whether this album has been on your wish-list for what seems like a lifetime, or you are taking a plunge into this deep puddle for the first time, when the needle drops on the first track you’ll find that Susan Christie, John Hill and Finders Keepers have been saving up for a very rainy day

    TEMPLE

    Temple

[engl] Continuing with our reissue campaign of the Toby Robinson’s Pyramid label catalogue, now it’s the time for Temple. Probably the most "rock" sounding of all the Pyramyd titles, Temple were an ad–hoc outfit born out of several late night sessions at Dierks Studios (where Toby was working at that time), involving local friends of Toby and other musicians from adjoining studios, among them Zeus B. Held (Birth Control). Temple played a kind of heavy, dark psychedelic krautrock with ahead of its time proto–Goth vibe. Loud guitars, Hammond, Mini–Moog, Mellotron, distorted & echoing vocals, effects... RIYL: AMON DÜÜL II, HAWKWIND, BIRTH CONTROL, POPOL VUH, ASH RA TEMPEL, EMTIDI... *24–bit remaster from the original tapes.

    THE PRISONERS

    Bride of Devil

[engl] German Rock Band formed 1964 in Kassel (as a Beat band). They only did two singles, this is the debut single from 1974 with a hard bonehead rocker called "Bride of Devil" on the A-side and a mor psych-popper on the flip. Very rare, hardly ever pops up at some online marketplace. Another 45 that will make your life as a DJ a whole lot easier!!! Not only Kraut and Heavy but this one will appeal to the BONEHEAD CRUSHERS and JUNKSHOP GLAMMERS as well. Originally released in 1974 in micro numbers this might even pass as Proto Metal but... B side is more of a slow PSYCH jammer.

THOMAS EDISUN'S ELECTRIC LIGHT BULB BAND

    The Red Day Album

[engl] One of the most exciting finds of the recent years is this previously unreleased album from 1967 by this obscure US psychedelic band, recorded around the same time of their ultra- rare 'Common Attitude' 45, (famous for appearing on the ''Alien, Psychos & Wild Things'' comp). Leaded by the great Richard Orange, Thomas Edisun played Beatlesque, psychedelic- pop / proto power- pop of the highest order with amazing songs and incredible harmony vocals. In 1967, just after 'Sgt. Pepper' had came out, the band decided to register their own psychedelic masterpiece, so they entered a rudimentary studio and recorded a whole album during a weekend, under the influence of ''smoking'' and ''mind altering'' substances . The album was never released, the tapes were stored in attics and basements and the band broke up with some of their members forming cult power- pop band Zuider Zee.

    THUNDERTREE

    Thundertree

[engl] Coming from the same Minneapolis 60s scene which spawned bands like The Litter, Thundertree evolved from garage band The Good Idea. In 1970 they released their sole album for the Roulette label: a perfect example of the transition from psychedelia to hard- rock and early progressive sounds. Killer fuzzed out guitar, organ, powerful vocals?Including hard- psych classics like ?In the morning? or ?Room at the top of the stairs? along with the monstruous 17 minute long ?2025? suite. For this, the first ever legit vinyl reissue of Thundertree, we?ve included two previously unreleased tracks: ?Pepper Palace? (a great psychedelic number) plus a storming cover of ?Sixteen Tons?, which was the signature song on Thundertrees live shows. Both tracks were recorded at UA Studios, Minneapolis, in 1970.

    TRUCK

    Surprise, surprise

[engl] Limited reissue of the sole album by this mysterious early 70s band from Malaysia. It was featured in the last Hans Pokora ''Collector Dreams'' book, causing a big stir in the psych collecting circles, as original copies are nowhere to be found. This is a real popsike gem with ultra melodic & catchy english beatlesque vocals, totally UK Psych late sixties atmosphere featuring awesome songwriting, great studio arrangements, moody orchestrations, fuzz and wah- wah guitar and great use of electric piano, keyboards & weird analog synth- Moog which gives the album a wonderful unique vibe. A must for all people into the more melodic psych- pop sounds, think We All Together, Aerovons, Kaleidoscope UK, Fairlfield Parlour, Gary Walker & The Rain, Badfinger...no hype here, check this album right now!!!
