    STIFF RICHARDS

    Dig

[engl] STIFF RICHARDS are 5 blokes from Melbourne playing tunes "straight from the shed straight to your head...". Those blokes are called Lochie, Mawson, Raf, Gaz and Wolfie and they're just the latest in a growing number of Aussie punk bands to feature on here. If you're a fan of balls out rock n roll then Oz is where you should cast your gaze. Melbourne scuzzy punk rock band who have created a buzz about town with this admittedly EXCELLENT slice of raw rock & roll which doesn't let up for a second over its all-too-brief duration. Totally A-grade Aussie punk rock. There's nothing fancy going on here: just raw, savage rock n' roll that kicks you straight in the teeth and comes back for more. These gentlemen have definitely absorbed the lessons of the Detroit and Aussie rock of yore, and they manage to invigorate that sonic tradition with an energy that's off the charts. You've got guitars firing at full fury, a punishing rhythm section, and a madman howler on lead vocals who probably literally spits fire. "Do It Right Now" may be as blatant of a Stooges homage as you'll ever hear, but it's also one of the best. Play it at max volume, and you will feel indestructible! And while Stiff Richards are especially satisfying in short, fire-hot doses ("Bad Disease", "Ostentatious"), they sound no less thumping in full-on heavy rock mode. "Dig", which delivers monster riffs and transcendent maniacal screaming from deep within Wolfy's loins, opens the album with a proverbial bang. "PEA", with its call to arms of "Power! Energy! Action!", might as well be Stiff Richards' theme song. It's always a cliche to credit a band with capturing a "live" energy in the studio. But if Dig sounded any more live, you would be able to smell the sweat and spilled beer. These guys play every note like they're trying to blow the roof off of the joint. Something tells me they've succeeded on more than one occasion. A ripper. Short, sharp, intense and fun this LP is in heavy rotation- like a moon around jupiter.

    STILETTOS, THE

    12 cuts

[engl] The Stilettos are a Utrecht based 3-piece band consisting of lead singer Ned Harris, drummer RockstarBarry and guitar swinger extraordinaire Drs. Hook. They paid their dues, learned to play the blues and put on their rockin' shoes. The Stilettos share a passion for fucked up, noisy as hell punk rock 'n' roll. They're loud, fast, raw, and eager to raise hell and still manage to maintain that overall make-you-feel-good sentiment. It's groovy, high-energy garage rock 'n' roll. RockstarBarry: ''we love to play and one-day this planet and its crazy shenanigans will come to a stop. The Stilettos want to be on the soundtrack to the next Big Bang, after which people will be dancing again. Savagely, around huge campfires, beating homemade drums with human bones, screaming for what they need and not what they want...'' Up Yours' Magazine from Belgium called them: ''way more threatening and horrifying than hundreds of sleeping Al Quajda terrorist cells.'' But they're nice guys with girlfriends, who love their parents. They come out like the mutated baby of a menage à trois between The Ramones, The Pagans and The Rolling Stones, born and bred on a steady diet of beer, marihuana and love gone bad...

STINKY LOU AND THE GOON MAT WITH LORD BENARDO

12 Roots and Boogie Blues Hits

Do you want to boogie?"

    STRANGE ATTRACTOR

    Good Boy Bad Boy

[engl] You can file this one in your mental record bin next to VOM, the Angry Samoans, the Reatards, the Chats (their singer makes an appearance here.), and the Gizmos (my 70s teen band). Y’know, punk-rock with garage guffaws wrapped up in the mix real good. You will find neither grim hardcore nor retro fashion show here. The title track “Good Boy, Bad Boy” reminds me of the Panics, the Bloomington, Indiana punk band after the Gizmos in the early 80s.It’s the aggressive nasal sneer that’s been a mainstay of punktitude since at least Question Mark and Sky Saxon circa 1966. But it’s the opening track “I Wanna Be You” that sounds like the single to me—snarling power-poppy punk with an inverted ironic warning against envy. “Nature Man” is another winner. Is it a modern answer song to the Eden Ahbez/Nat King Cole standard “Nature Boy”? To me, it is! Is there a big Spanish-speaking community in Sudbury? Coz there’s also a song called “Destruye Todo” that takes a mere 24 seconds to “destroy everything.” “Don’t Waste My Time” sounds like a good follow-up to should-be-a-hit-single “I Wanna Be You,” another catchy punker that could be an anthem if anybody was singing along. How about you? Maybe this one? The Chats singer shows up on “Warm Piss.” Yep, you can hear his beer-sodden Oz vocal trading barbs with Jeff’s nasal whine. And there’s more! 18 tracks total! Yay! I got very burned out on punk and garage rockisms in the late 80s. Jazz, noise, and improv turned me on. Hip hop became rock. But my post-2014 Gizmos comeback years perfectly dovetailed with a new generation of punkers who somehow don’t sound tired or full of crap. Who woulda thunk it could NOT suck in this third stupid decade of the 21st Century? Cheers!

    STRAPPING FIELDHANDS

    Lyve: In Concerte

[engl] Recording the Strapping Fieldhands at Bernie's was our (TommyJay & Myself) first rewarding attempt at recording a band live in a club setting that i can recall. It was great fun working with this crew of magical musical misfits in what now seems a long passed epoch ago. I'm very happy they chose to use a bit of said endeavor for this record and will always cherish the memories of my times both here in mythical Harrisburg Ohio and Olde Philadelphius with these wandering minstrels in perilous search of the Golden Fleece while enduring the ensuing trials by fire water & the fickle nature of fame. Long passed perhaps are the days when rose petals were scattered at their feet, but these petrified remains of their copious output will baffle marveling aural anthropologists for millenniums to come! Zeus Bless the Strapping Field Hand & all who sail with them! May we once again share quahogs amid peatbogs somewhere down the sandy path to netherness

    SUEVES, THE

    Change Your Life

[engl] The Sueves blast forth with a blizzard of treble-soaked noise, and once Joe's spidery guitar, along with Rob's vicious bass lines, and Andy's shambolicly acute drumming really kick in together, they just explode, and they've clearly got that elusive “tension” so many bands just can't get right. We're extremely excited to get this debut 7' out into the world, so don't sleep on this raw and trashy debut single from one of Chicago's top bands, busting right out of the gate and right into your dreams and nightmares.

    SUEVES, THE

    Tears of Joy

[engl] “European” Pressing, after the pressing on the bands own Magicatalog Records was sold out in a wink, here is another pressing! 300 copies on Magicatalog came with a brilliant screenprinted sleeve, expansive on discogs now. Here is a official second pressing of this record. We already did their first album few years back, yeah we are in love with the noisy garage punk smashers of THE SUEVES. It’s lame to talk about how fantastic this 3rd album is, so here is what the experts had to say.... „Simplicity, in all its ramshackle glory, is one of the charms of garage rock. That appeal can wear off quickly though when a band’s songwriting is subpar and/or the execution is poor. The Sueves new record is the perfect example of how rewarding it can be when a band challenges itself; when a band is not afraid to go beyond self- or other- imposed boundaries of the genre; when a band invests a little more time in writing and recording music. On Tears of Joy, The Sueves sound more layered, diverse and dynamic than most garage bands, but also in comparison to their past selves. They do so without sacrificing any of the energy and excitement of their earlier work. Mop Bucket is a modern garage rock classic. Short and fast songs like Alexxxa, Find The Right Fit and Stare will draw in punk fans. Other songs (e.g., Deflect The World) move into The Stooges territory. To be sure, the Sueves have created their own enterprise, and never sound like copycats. Overall, Tears of Joy is a thrilling listen, a kick to the nuts of those who complain that guitar music nowadays is redundant. I am pretty confident that the allure of the record is more likely to expand than wear off upon further listens. That leaves us with one concern. Now that the band has ran out of primary colors for their album covers – red for their debut, blue for their second one and yellow for Tears Of Joy, what will they do next? Based on this record, the Sueves are just getting started.” ADD TO WANTLIST “I stopped reading NME and other craps for hit-machine a while ago, but I kept this old habit of believing that the third album is an important moment in a band's life. Well, OK. If I had to compare Tears of Joy with the first two (I spent long nights with), I'd say it's overall slower but more melodic. I would say that Joe Schorgi's voice remains one of the most recognizable in the whole scene. I'd say that the album is incredibly complex, between the eighties spirit of "Diet Genetics" (which hides a horde of zombies), the pop melody of "Feneral Hugs", the almost Lou Reed-trash-period-mechanics of "Dance Dance Whatever", the punk 77" of "Deal", the quasi-psychobilly of "Find the Right Fit", and "He Puts Down" which seems to be the punk version of a Taxi Boys' (see).” STILL IN ROCK

    SUGAR STEMS

Sweet sounds of the Sugar Stems

[engl] Welcome to another joyride in the BACHELOR train from/to Milwaukee.... We are very proud to be part of this release, the debut full lenght of the SUGAR STEMS! One year ago the band sent me a six song demo CDR which made my boss drool. He immediately inked a deal with these kids and put out their debut 7" which got a lot of raving reviews. They went to the MYSTERY STUDIOS with Justin Perkins (again), who recorded another batch of great songs, most of which you can find on this full lenght release. These two guys and two gals churn out hit after hit, think of THE SHIVVERS with proper production or female fronted RASPBERRIES with a kick!!! SUSPECT PARTS

    s/t

[engl] Apocalypse Pop, waiting for the apocalypse to...drop... Suspect Parts is the brainchild of two exiled Americans, one Brit and a German who managed to tame their inner demons with buzzsaw punk/powerpop, a cotton candy-meets-razorblade concoction that goes down surprisingly smooth. Ex and current members of bands like The Briefs, Clorox Girls, Maniac, Ripchord, Radio Dead Ones and Red Dons – they are Suspect, they come from Suspect Parts. Combining 60's pop and bubblegum with late 70's California beach punk and powerpop, Suspect Parts have something brewing that can't be ignored. The Seeds, the Kinks, the Knack and the Buzzcocks can be heard, as well as a little Nuggets, a little Star Spangles or Rezillos, a little Protex or Undertones, but with a modern touch. Backward-looking but forward-thinking 60s pop with a punk edge. Now, their self-titled full-length debut album is finally here. Recorded straight to analog tape in the negative 15 degree cold of a January in east Berlin. Ten songs, 24 minutes, a relentlessly catchy uppercut to the senses. Apocalypse Pop. When oil runs out a major line is going to be drawn. Which side are you on? Which tribe are you willing to die for? ... Pop's chosen warriors will rule the apocalypse .... Drop, waiting for the apocalypse to...pop...

    Never Bloom

    Used to be

    SWAMPS, THE

    Rockin Mess!!!

[engl] Remember The Gories with their fucked up solos, off tempo and beat, sounding as wasted as they can be? This is the japanese translation. Infused with fury of the blood orange sun, its a collection of rollicking tunes for the rollers, rockin’raucousness for the rockers, and carnal drumming for the carnivores that will send your ass dancing to Nippon.
