TURPENTINE BROTHERS
Get your mind off me

TURPENTINE BROTHERS
Make a livin'
WILD!!! Für Fans von: Ghetto Ways Oblivians, Dirtbombs, Carbonas, Hipshakes- Format

TURPENTINE BROTHERS
s/t

UV GLAZE is throwing us back to the mid 90ties when we all dug records of AMPHETAMINE REPTILE RECORDS. Loud, wylde and even fun sometimes! If you go crazy while listening to THE JESUS LIZARD, COWS, GUZZARD or BIG BLACK, or much more recent PISSED JEANS and METZ, this band and this 45 is definitely a sure shot! Be gay, do crime
[engl] Thanks to the brilliant brilliant (!!!) record label Girlsville, who put this compilation together for a tape release we - Bachelor Records - can be part of this vinyl record! This tape was just too good to be just out on the tiny format, so we asked Girlsville to have this pressed on wax. Together we did 1000 copies, 200 of which on red vinyl which is only available directly from the labels. This comp has new and exclusive music from bands like Osees, Gen Pop, Germ House, and UK Gold. Some stuff that had fallen out of print (The Primitives 2016 cover of "Been Hiding" by The Aislers Set), and then some songs bands gave us just to be a part of it. Artwork and design concept: Anna Jo Beck. Mastered by Patrick Haight, Proceeds to benefit Prism Health. "Prism Health is committed to offering safe, compassionate, and affirming primary and mental health care to all members of the LGBTQ+ community." Also included: Danny And The Darleans, UV-TV, Hood Rats, Maxines, Special Interest, Blues Lawyer, Mr. And The Mrs., Virvon Varvon, Andrew Anderson, Becky & The Politicians, and Stiff Love. „Girlsville hits it out of the park with this one. This comp is absolutely killer and features such heavy hitters as GEN POP, STIFF LOVE, and even a new track by OSEES (the newly renamed/revived OH SEES), as well as sixteen more tracks. It's impossible to pick a favorite track off of this as it hits a lot of different bases. I was most surprised by how driving and gritty the OSEES song on here is, though; haven't heard that band sounding this nasty in a while and I absolutely love it. Listen to this comp, make a donation to Prism Health if you can, and perhaps most importantly do what the label says: be gay, do crime!”-Biff Bafaro (MAXIMUM ROCKNROLL)- Format

CAJUN STOMPS
[engl] Once the intro to opener “Human” gives way to its fully-realized sonic purpose, it’s obvious that Harlan T. Bobo’s fourth proper album, A History of Violence, is quite different from his previous body of work. The classic historical emotional heft of a songwriter trying to make sense of life’s chaos, think mid-70s Lou Reed, especially Coney Island Baby, is a thread that can be heard running through the album’s mid-tempo tracks like “Human” and the miniature literary tragedy that is “Nadine”. The punchier tracks on the album, like “Spiders”, might conjure very early Green On Red, what X’s mid-80s output could have been, or even the roots-rock tendencies of overlooked genius, Cass McCombs. A History of Violence still highlights Bobo’s whiskey-and-cigarette-informed vocal style, and on the more intimate tracks, it’s a distorted ear candy that warbles into increasingly sunken, uncomfortable places, like that of the songwriter with which comparisons have followed Bobo throughout his career: the late Leonard Cohen. But there is a richer canvas on which to work this time out, not to mention a decidedly heavier and darker one. The album was recorded in Memphis with Doug Easley, who has previously worked with Cat Power, Pavement, Wilco, Sonic Youth, Jon Spencer, and Jeff Buckley. Bobo also brought in Steve Selvidge (The Hold Steady, Bash & Pop) on bass and Jeff “Bunny” Dutton (Action Family) on guitar, along with regular contributors Jeff Bouck (Polyphonic Spree) and Brendan Spangler (Viva l’American Death Ray). The result is a naturally dynamic album that seems equally at home with howling guitars and heavy bass lines as it does with haunting piano and humble pleas. A History of Violence is Bobo’s most complex -- and complete -- album to date.- Format

Days of a Quiet Sun
[engl] Mid-1960's Richmond, Virginia had little to offer aspiring local artists. Enter Martin Gary, a local kid who grew up working at Gary's, the primary record shop in town that his father opened in 1939. Starting in junior high, Martin Gary became interested in producing local bands, however Richmond lacked any real recording studios. Gary first linked up with The Barracudas, a teen group from nearby Sandston, traveling up to Washington, DC's Edgewood Recording in June 1966. The resulting session produced a 45 on the Cuda imprint, establishing NewBag Music for publishing, and using Gary's Records (which would grow into an 8-store chain) as distribution. More 45's soon followed in '67 and '68, with Gary creating the Groove label that would release The Hazards ""Hey Joe"" (one of the best versions from the late 60's garage explosion), King Edward & His B.D.'s ""Beg Me"" (a snappy garage/soul hybrid with horn section), and the monster soul cut ""Gotta Be a Reason"" from Bernard Smith & Jokers Wild. Trips to Virginia Beach resulted in a 45 on the appropriately-dubbed Beech label for Group Nine, early adopters of a psychedelic rock sound reminiscent of Jefferson Airplane. Summer 1968 found Gary and The Barracudas reuniting and moving studios to Recordings, Inc. near Baltimore, with now legendary engineer George Massenburg. This session produced ""Days of a Quiet Sun"", The Barracudas' heavily psyched-up take on a Group Nine original with Massenburg on Moog synthesizer (one of the first units on the East Coast!). ""Days"" was backed with ""Apple Pie"" on 45 and released in late '68 on Satori, the last of Gary's short-lived labels. Following ""Days"", Gary produced a demo session for Richmond's Bosom Blues Band - an amazing bluesy hard rock group that nearly signed a major deal with Capitol Records. ""Days of a Quiet Sun"" collects the best of Martin Gary Productions, including several unreleased (like a '73 outtake from notable fingerpicking guitarist Duck Baker) and alternate takes, all professionally transferred and remastered from the original sources. ""Days of a Quiet Sun"" shines a light on the raw energy and musical colors that swept through Virginia in the late 60's, most of which hasn't been available in over 50 years.- Format

I Like Your Band
[engl] Quite simply one of the hardest working bands in contemporary punk and hardcore, Vanilla Poppers are back with their most urgent material to date. Following an excellent 2017 LP on Lumpy, 3/4 of the original lineup relocated from Cleveland to Melbourne, Australia, home of vocalist Christina Pap. The four new tracks on "I Like Your Band" find the Poppers on top of their game, driving home hook-laden punk hits beneath Pap's ruling vocal presence. And what's more? The band's gritty, live charm is captured at its best here by Billy Gardner (Ausmuteants, Antifade Records) and dialed in on the mix by Mike Gill (Perverts Again, Cruelster). A near-perfect EP delivered with the precision and attitude of first wave 70s PUNK and executed with the style and confidence that few contemporary acts possess. "I Like Your Band" comes packaged in a glue pocket sleeve with artwork from William Chapman plus lyric insert and download code.- Format

I Like Your Band
[engl] The best rock’n’roll doesn’t faff about. It gets straight in there and gets shit done. This is an ethos Vanilla Poppers seem to have taken to heart – formed the very day Melbourne-hailing singer Christina Pap arrived in the town of Cleveland, Ohio, they’re a pointed blast of too-busy-to-give-a-fuck rawness and vital urgency. Punk rock doing what punk rock does best, basically: getting to the point with noise and purpose, leaving your dazed but exhilarated ears to pick up the pieces afterwards. Their I Like Your Band 7” is a testament to that – never less than scintillating, at least partially thanks to garage-soaked riffs that are never less than heroically, bottom-shakingly addictive. You’ll wish you’d thought of the hook to opening track Get Away From Me, even as it makes you wanna regress to a primal state and do dumb stuff like chew on broken glass to see how long it takes you to bleed. In fact, Rocket From The Crypt would be proud of most of the guitar work on display here, although with Pap on hand to dispense her proclamations via a hardcore holler, it’s plain to see they’re making their own mark rather than walking in anyone else’s shadow. Tired of the same old three-chord stodge? Need a palette cleanser to wash away the taste of so much stale punk? Vanilla Poppers are the perfect solution; a spittle-flecked rush of blood to the head that’ll remind you why you fell in love with this music in the first place. Meet your new heroes. Evening Reception
[engl] A lost episode of Fawlty Towers set in the present day astride a shoddy sofa in a den in Brooklyn: Instead of not “mentioning the war” the challenge is to swim through this LP without uttering or even entertaining the tiniest sniff of dearest Nanker Phelge. This proves far more rewarding than throwing a knee-jerk ticker tape parade for the open-tuned greyzone murk of Guitar-Centre blues musicians everywhere and frankly, that would be a lazy disservice to what you're about to hear. Rising up instead, we have the grandiose and pampositical return of the perfectly named, Vanity. Yes that’s a compliment, no it's not a real word. Energetic punk consommé indebted to rock and roll but coming across less like the deliberate broken chains of Vans slip ons and Target 501s swapped for sequins, strides, and scarves - but more like an effort forged in Billy Zoom’s living room on Warren Zevon’s gear as played by the Saints’ roadies in a bar that serves really, really, really cold beer. Coincidentally, I would endorse that as a suggested serving. Take a long hard look in the mirror, slyly lit so your cheekbones pop, and preen yourself ’til your skin peels off.- Format
