We Don't Dance
[engl] PLATINUM BOYS are from the Rust Belt town of Milwaukee, WI, USA. At first they seem like they can’t possibly be serious about this whole “Rock n’ Roll” thing – that PLATINUM BOYS must be some kind of stoned inside joke taken to the unfortunate extreme of actually appearing in public. The first impression is that they exist for sick self-amusement or that they all lost some gross bet. But when they start playing and the full force of their brutish sound is cracked open, PLATINUM BOYS deliver a musical punch that’s no joke. Their paint-huffing, sweat-soaked garage matrimony of Thin Lizzy and the Buzzcocks summons the spirit of the past 50 years of Rock n’ Roll in a uniquely 21st Century American way. Their songs are tight, aggressively sped-out and they boil up from a sneering, self-aware sense of humor. PLATINUM BOYS might just be geniuses, but if they are, it’s the type of genius that leaves you brain damaged. (Rev.Norb)- Format

The Fool
[engl] "POWER is - and has been the real deal for quite some time. This single serves not only as a testament to that fact, but showcases two of POWER's best creations yet. Like thunder rips across the sky, the pounding drums on ‘The Fool’ signal the oncoming storm of slashing rock and roll. The single sees POWER explore a side of band which has always been simmering beneath the surface - and it seems the time was right for them to unleash these raw new tunes without holding back. Pure electric guitar damage from this most formidable three-piece. With the ‘The Fool’ cutting a figure which could’ve been found backstage at a show headlined by Venom and The Stooges, the flip, 'Give It All To Me’ displays a range of heavier melodies intoned by 80’s cult groups such as Wicked Lady and Iron Claw. POWER have stayed true to themselves and continued to ride towards to the storm."- Format

In the Time of the Sabre-toothed Tiger
[engl] After the demise of the Ooga Boogas in the Before Time, the four band members went their very separate ways. Being in that band was such an intense high pressure experience, some chillax time was well- deserved. Stacky recorded under the name Leon, Per joined Voice Imitator, Mikey recorded with The Green Child and Rich played in Drug Sweat. All quite deserving projects, but it was Leon's solo outing that garnered the most interest from public and industry alike. The demand for live shows led Leon to recruit Per from Ooga Boogas and a guy named Brad into his touring lineup. The trio was red hot, but inevitably the venues they filled required a fuller sound so Leon recruited Mikey from Ooga Boogas on second guitar. The gruelling touring schedule became too much for family-man Brad, so Rich from Ooga Boogas jumped in to fill his size 11s and off they went for another lap of regional Victoria. Eventually the question presented itself to this freshly-minted foursome: should they continue as Leon's backing band or strike out anew with a fresh identity? The answer came in a moniker too electrifying to resist; a name as clever, enigmatic and indeed, as powerful as the band itself. Power Supply. Back in the shed, jams became songs, jokes became lyrics and long afternoons spent together became the record you're now half- listening to while you yearn for your inbox. Listen though, and you'll hear life through the lens of Leon and the tactile tentacles of his pals. In The Time of the Sabre-toothed Tiger contains ten songs that listen so easy, you'll barely notice when they're gone.- Format

[engl] It‘s hard to toss the term „Poppunk” nowadays, it has become a generic term for commercial-radio music that has guitars and drums. Poppunk isnt punk that was just polished to make it suiteable for everyone‘s ears. Poppunk is snotty and fast 77 styled songs mangled and put on a griddle, strewn with sugar and cut into pieces that have the exact songs structure of 60ties heroes like ZOMBIES and BEACH BOYS with a touch of UNTERTONES and BUZZCOCKS. These two songs here are the perfect example of how simple and catchy songs can sound, and how hard it must be to assemble all the pop hooks and harmonies. It‘s no surprise that we are proud to have them on our label! Print Run: 500 copies, black vinyl, housed in a full color cardboard sleeve.- Format

Bad Men In The Grave
[engl] Get your ears around this stunner, second album by our beloved canadian troubadour Buck Hildebrand and his basement rats. Running away from life, hiding from starving polar bears, the opener "Only The Bad Remains" settles in to the groove immediately, pack you on a Winnipeg monochrome winter night dog sled ride until almost imperceptibly ratcheting up the intensity towards a cave where they pull off a garage punk mammoth awakeners like "Animal Blood" and "Unseen Love". "Bad Men In The Grave" has resonances of hatred failure and charming turns in dazzling daylight and truly exceeds the Primitive Hands past works. Considering their three singles from a decade ago, these recordings are the most expansive, career spanning release and maybe the first *real* album. This was self recorded by the band, respectively J.Quakenbusch and M.Blackburn.Chiming fuzz-drenched guitar folk songs like wonderful sonorous "The Food´s No Good", "Turkey" and barren "Vivid Storyteller" are the psych-rock preacher counterpart of the blues gospel of BEATMAN, the outlawed COWBOYS rock and roll. Third release on ALIEN SNATCH! after sonic force debut LP in 2017,nearly crashing of its own sheer weight of sonic force and some sticky melodic washes of Berlin streets, which turned into the "Heartless Man" 45 in 2018. Brian Hildebrand plays on the claviature of melancholy and rage in bands like DEMON'S CLAWS, MIND CONTROLS and GENITAL HOSPITAL and toured many times around the globe. Rootsy, black/white ink artwork by Darren Merinuk, printed on reverse side stunning ultra heavy cardboard stock. Third time there is limited edition on golden wax! Meet at the bar.- Format

[engl] The debut album from Private Lives is a bold proclamation - 'HIT RECORD'. From their humble beginnings as a quarantine bedroom project to the full-fledged rock'n'roll unit they've become, Private Lives set up ten tracks and strike 'em down in one smooth release. Part of the current wave of Montréal underground talent alongside Tha Retail Simps, Hélène Barbier, and Liquid Assets (to name a few) - Private Lives debuted in 2022 with their scorching self-titled EP on Feel It. Those five cuts are stitched into PL's vinyl debut, re-sequenced with new material that finds the four piece at the height of their collective powers. With Jackie Blenkarn's cool and confident vocals riding high in the mix, the group hammer out an impressive debut full length anchored by the strength of "Trust In Me", "Misfortune", and the title track, "Hit Record". There's not a moment of hesitation across these twenty-seven minutes. Whether it's the overarching simplicity of the r'n'r/garage-mined guitars, underlying pop charm, or deeper post-punk melodies - 'HIT RECORD' is both cathartic and familiar - a truly impressive combination of heart-meets-cool. As Private Lives wind the album away in the psychotic build of "Dark Spots", the Quebec quartet leave us with a captivating debut that begs to be spun again and again.- Format

Poison Future
[engl] After four self-released cassettes, Montréal's premier art-punk/neo-proto-punk band Protruders makes its vinyl debut with a 25-minute 12-inch of very groovy sounds. The sound is a bit clearer and maybe a little beefier—some of the noise gives way to a more relaxed and expansive approach. The psych quotient is higher. But the heart of the band is still beating for the sort of raw open-minded non-generic punk that once came from the likes of Rocket From The Tombs, Swell Maps, Dead Moon, Dancing Cigarettes, etc. “Fruit Hang” has a perfect mid-70s style garage feel—like a Boston pre-punk band tearin’ it up at the Rat! This could be the hit, kidz! Skronky sax gives “Hydrophytol” a kinda Hawkwind/no-wave feel. And dig “No Stone”—a slower one, catchy as hell—I swear it could pass for an outtake from the Saints circa 1978. Solid—another hit! At five minutes, the title track stretches things out a bit. This one has a definite Ubu/Voidoids vibe—nasty angular spazz-punk with a little more sax blat added. Very nice guitar stuff happening here. We get some weirdo HC action on “Stabilizer” and more hot guitar squiggles. “Tax 101” is maybe a “typical” Protruders song—that means good! “Wrong Way Sign,” pushes things over the six-minute mark, with a strong psych-punk feel (Wipers?) and some totally swell rock-jam stuff at the end. Wow. This record is a significant step for the band and an impressive way to start their vinyl career as they gain the higher visibility they deserve. New Weird
[engl] Formed in the early 2000's in Pécs, Southern Hungary, Psycho Mutants is a cult underground band in their country. They owe this status to three things: the power of their stage performances, the charismatic personality of their singer, and that bass-baritone voice from beyond the grave, able to jump four octaves if necessary. Musically, Psycho Mutants is nothing we have ever listened to before: a mutation of music we've only felt, not just heard: rock'n'roll so intense it could have been played by Hank Williams if he'd been raised in the Carpathians, drunk on Palinka. Their influences are as diverse as Crime and the City Solution or Gallon Drunk, Jack The Ripper and The Gun Club. But the Magyar band is not just handling guitars. The addition of a trumpet, a keyboard, an accordion or a baritone sax to the line-up doesn't scare them one bit, giving this particular taste to their sound, which leaves nobody indifferent. Seven years after the success of "Baby Burn" (Volvox/PIAS), the Western Voodoo R'n'R combo is back with a mature album, "Motherland", discovered by Beast Records shortly after it was recorded. "Motherland" includes dark country ballads, monotone psychedelic melodies as well as garage tunes, laid on a moody, atmospheric, blues-based aesthetic. Listening to the album will make you want to see them play live, which they say, is well worth your time.- Format

Coming off a hot streak of touring, they have unleashed their Debut EP, and now gearing up to campaign the band's Debut Album Still Care.' Playing their part in keeping Germany's capital weird, PDOA's live shows hark back to the fearless eccentricity explored by the Berlin performance art and music collectives of the 1980's. The music reflects these same feelings of willful abandon, twisting and turning, one minute slow and slinky, the next full on post-punk assault. Music For Leisure
[engl] "Hey, we’re all angry these days. Day in, day out, it feels like all there is to do it kick against the pricks or kick out the jams - sometimes both at the same time. But what do you do when all your righteous anger gets caught up in the mesh of the daily grind? When your despair at the world (and hey, it’s boiling over with right-wing fuckheads, senseless violence and the sort of oppression you might once have idealistically hoped would be a thing of the past by now) is a regular, everyday occurrence, as much a part of your daily routine as getting your caffeine fix in the morning? If ever a sound articulated that feeling, it’d be Public Eye’s second album ‘Music For Leisure’. Written in the wake of the US presidential election in 2016, and surrounded by the sinister political voices that seemingly felt legitimised by you-know-who taking the White House, it’s the sound of fury, righteous indignation, disillusionment and dejection, all wrapped up inside booming elliptical basslines, staccato guitar stabs and pithily spat summations of the American dream. Opening track ‘Descending’ has an air of much-loved gloom-rockers Protomartyr in its monochromatic rumble, but the album’s main musical inspirations come from the punked-out nuggets of the infamous ‘Killed By Death’ compilation series, under the shadow of Wire’s art-damaged racket. Formed in Portland, Oregon in 2016, Public Eye’s membership takes in three-quarters of notorious punks Autistic Youth, but while that band’s take on rock’n’roll was straight-ahead and speedy with it, their new outfit find more inspiration in nuance. ‘Neat Machines/Red Flags’ slashes at your eardrums with subtly jerky time signatures and angular jangles, before vocalist Nick Vicario remains impassive throughout its tastefully melodic second half. Then there’s the album’s greatest moment: the unabashed skronk of ‘The Duet’, which builds to a glorious final minute that sounds like Parquet Courts setting themselves on fire at a free jazz festival. Chaos, in other words, but chaos with the best kind of discipline. Repeats plays reveal greater treasures, and it’s the perfect album to block out (or echo) the buzzing pressure on your brain that comes from trying to get through day-to-day life in this increasingly weird era. Beyond that, it’s just a really fucking good record. Listen now and save yourself. Will Fitzpatrick.- Format

Spiritual Pollution
[engl] PUBLIC INTEREST can do no wrong in our eyes and they held the door open for you again. This LP is even denser and fuller than their previous Between 12". If you like dark post-punk, you might like this, as much as we do. Synthy post-punk that surprises with every track. ETT is proud to bring the 2nd vinyl from this project out of Oakland featuring (or maybe even consisting entirely of?) a member of Marbled Eye. Marbled Eye’s recent recordings showcased their ability to write catchy post-punk tunes and this 8-song LP from Public Interest is the same level. While you’ll hear plenty of those memorable guitar lines that made the Marbled Eye tracks so great, the songs here feel snappier, more concerned with generating a pop-inspired forward momentum than stretching things out and floating in mid-air. The angular synth lines and mechanical rhythms are a nice counterpoint to those fluid guitar lines, imbuing Between with an irresistible tension. This is utterly brilliant. I don't have a favourite track because this record is just good and coherent in its integrity. Guitars sound ace, drums and bass are on point and the vocals give some pop shades that are never annoying. Really great enjoyable LP.- Format

[engl] "More acts of wonder from the land down under - Punter hail from Melbourne and their brand of noise is thrillingly intense. They describe themselves as ‘a hardcore band described as a rock band’, and it’s difficult not to fall in love with a statement like that, especially when it so accurately describes their slalom between all-out axe heroics and to-the-point, in-yer-face-and-then-some punk ferocity. From the intro track’s snarkily deployed job centre answerphone message (“Just say, ‘in Australia, my voice identifies me’”), we’re catapulted straight into the wholly-inaccurately-titled A Minute’s Silence, which rages like Motörhead gargling bleach in the middle of a circle pit. This is likely the moment where you’ll know that your new favourite band is here, and they’re absolutely tearing it up. Punter first appeared in early 2020 thanks to a scorching demo (released on cassette by their hometown label Blow Blood Records), and you sadly don’t have to imagine the shitshow of pandemic, multiple lockdowns and a pressing plant logjam that meant we’ve had to wait til now for a second installment of blazing rifferama, accompanied by that specific vigour that only comes from being very cross indeed. Is there a band out there who’d flush Scott Morrison’s severed head down a toilet while instigating a wall of death around the u-bend? Feels like this lot could be in with a shout. Thrill! To the anthemic hooks and glorious mob shoutalong of Retirement Simulator. Spill! To the guitars piling up like wrecks at a demolition derby on Curfew Eternal. Be fulfilled! By the joy of a very brilliant band being very brilliant at you. This record pulls from a similar formula to their citymates Stiff Richards, but with the ingredients thoroughly fucked about and the proportions changed to the point that any resemblance is minimal at best. By the time the sunny ‘ooohs’ of A Year’s Silence get you thinking of proto-punk UK pub rock, you’ll be ready for more power chords propelled by even more diamond-hard energy - Punter offer all this by the bucketload. Get involved, friends. Get the fuck involved right now." Will Fitzpatrick "G’day, here’s our promo piece. We’re a new band so we gotta write our own, and we won’t bullshit you like we didn’t! Reviewers get in touch: Enter PUNTER, from Melbourne, Australia; three absolute Sick Cunts who have given the best years of their young lives to the creation of their sound, and the broadcast of their observations. All their years in the scene and on the road, playing and listening and talking shit and repeating the process, have culminated in this instant classic. Here, and only here, can we all finally agree on something. And that is because the elements contained within this record amount to tricks and tropes lifted directly from that ubiquitous juke box of punk rock anthems, rock’n’roll hip-shakers and hardcore bangers that are the years 1977 – 82. I’m talking about the real obvious shit right now. The Damned. FEAR. The Buzzcocks. SSD. The Jam. ACDC. The Bad Brains. The Clash. Girl School. Slaughter and The Dogs. And on and on. Good shit you thought you were sick of, that has now been carefully loaded into PUNTER’s slingshot, pulled right the fuck back and aimed squarely at the furious, foreboding and intense sound of the contemporary international DIY hardcore scene from 2012 to present. What has come out is, of course, anything but derivative. PUNTER have gathered for you the best bits from all the shit you thought could never be mates. And mates they now are, through this strangely original sound. Get fired up to this little rip snorter, showcasing all of the outrage, the desperation, the romance, the sass and the sorrow that a punk band can give - lead breaks, backup vocals and all. Let your heart rate rise to these songs of boredom, stress, fear, youth, death, grief, change, and class politics, all set to the backdrop of the emerging global technocracy, blasted at you from the Aussie suburbs, not least of all Melbourne, the most locked down city on the planet during the time of writing and recording. Should do the trick, I’d say.- Format
