    BLITZ

    Second Empire Justice

[engl] "When Crisis had their own personal Joy Division epiphany, they ultimately became Death in June. When the rowdy Oi! band The Blitz went through the same thing, they abruptly changed musical course and released Second Empire Justice, alienating their skinhead fanbase almost overnight. Like Joy Division, New Order, and Death in June, Blitz’s name had sketchy political connotations; Nietzschean song titles like “New Age” didn’t help. In fact, it was “New Age” and especially its promo video, which exaggerated things just a little bit by stating the band were from Manchester (really, they were from nearby New Mills) – that signaled the sea change in the band’s sound. Suddenly the Blitz were dressed in all black dress shirts, and it sounded like Bernard Sumner was guesting on guitar. Oi! seer Gary Bushell had claimed Blitz’s 1982 Voice of a Generation LP was like The Clash’s debut album “in terms of feel, suss and relevance.” Comparisons like this came to aquick halt after Second Empire Justice came out."

    BOLOS

    Saint Henry

[engl] "Two years ago as Austin’s complacency felt saturated by the overall stagnation of rock n roll, I came across The Bolos. They were young, hungry, and most importantly not just another band jumping shark and attempting to poorly play psyche. From the very beginning they stood out as a band with grit, shaping music out of creativity rather than a need to feel cool, a rare band from San Antonio to not lean on the region as a crutch but instead using it to incubate their noise and presence into something worth more than scene nods and not having to pay the cover whenever hitting up the local spot. In the time that’s passed I’ve kept a close watch on how their sound has developed, taking note as they stretch into themselves all the while climbing the impossible hill of recognition with absolute determination without the socialite stigma that often comes with it (which if we are being honest is what gets me the most stoked about the rest of the world slowly opening its heart to them). My days of tolerating bands who define themselves by rock n roll in hopes of being propped up as some holy savior of it are over, The Bolos are New York in the 70’s, a band without sly intentions or music shaped for the convenience of cool, a band who gets on the stage each night with a presence that clearly shouts, “fuck you if you can’t dig this,” never once have they seemed to need you to accept them, never once have I heard them put out a song backseating their integrity to chum up with whichever hyped sound of the week is, two years in on my awareness they have certainly proved themselves tough enough for our love".

    BOSS

    Cash 'Em In

[engl] The five heroes finally follow up the Steel Box 45 (Goner) with Cash 'Em In. A disgustingly catchy yet charming ode to the lost art of picking up one lucky person and, well, chucking them over a bar. Might as well, right? Sonically, this is still hitting that sweet spot between early UK punk and glam rock n roll, and once you've flipped both sides you'll be getting ready to cash someone in yourself (and don't worry, Cal from The Chisel pops up to provide full instructions). 250 copies on red vinyl and 450 copies on white vinyl housed in a fold out poster sleeve with artwork from Tin Savage, David Strother and Maxime Smadja. Recorded at Chateau Vergogne.

    Nasty Business

Marco NFT on vox).

    BRAIN F

    Sleep Rough

[engl] The first two singles from North Carolina's Brain FäŠæ left a lot of people scratching their heads: Is it garage? Is it hardcore? (It's definitely punk.) How did they write such catchy riffs? How do you pronounce "FäŠæ?" Brain FäŠæ's debut long player, Sleep Rough, will force you to ponder those same questions and may breed even more (and we mean that in the best way possible). Everything has been amped up for this release... the hard stuff is harder, the catchy stuff is catchier (oh, is it catchy!), and the weird stuff is weirder. There's no need for band comparisons, but if you're into that sort of thing then imagine the SAINTS' minds in TEENGENERATE and the AVENGERS' bodies sent to a dystopian future. Really, though, this sounds like the year 2011; if you like huge guitars, endless vocal hooks, and a turbo-charged rhythm section (you do), then you need to hear this record.

Following in the knuckle dragging, pavement scraping, blood trails as such acts as LAMPS and MAYYORS, BRANDY lays down a scuzz heavy sonic pummeling over this two track single. Loud, brutal, fuzzed.

    The Gift of Repetition

[engl] New York's Brandy (Ex-Pampers, Running) are back with their sophomore LP and first on TOTAL PUNK. "The Gift of Repetition" is an eight track study in just that. Loud plodding and rhythmic. It will have you bobbing your head till it breaks off your neck. They all share vocal duties often chanting over each other and the lyrics are singular in vision. Bleak with a grin. Synth is added on a few tracks with mind-melting results. When the only other bands that come to mind are A-Frames, Lamps and Mayyors you are obviously doing something right. Pulsing, throbbing, and 100% TOTAL PUNK!!! Limited to 350 copies!

    BROKEN PRAYER

    Misanthropocentric AKA Droid's Blood

[engl] Chicago’s Broken Prayer burst onto the scene in 2013 with one of the freshest and most original sounds in the punk scene, combining full-bore hardcore, jittery synth-punk, and a dark pop sensibility into a blend that, while not exactly seamless, is nothing if not distinctive. Two years later and they’ve delivered a follow-up record that proves they’re still one of the most exciting bands around, embracing originality, modernity, and earnestness where so many bands are content with a detached and ironic retro sensibility. Stylistically, Misanthropocentric continues along the lines of the first LP but pushes at the boundaries of the band’s sound, making the hard parts harder, the noisy parts noisier, and the catchy parts even catchier. Through the din Scott Plant’s brilliant lyrics remain the centerpiece; I can’t think of a single other current punk lyricist who can be so direct and blunt without ever descending into cliche. As you can probably tell, I think quite a lot of Misanthropocentric, and if you’re the kind of listener who is both musically adventurous and a committed punk lifer I think you will too.

    BUSTED HEAD RACKET

    Go! Go! Go!

[engl] In fact we must confess that if we had to choose at this moment a reference band in the US or in AU of what many name "egg", "weird" or as we like to call it "punk" it would probably be this huge line-up. We can't help it, these three youngsters who also add a fucking drilling synth to their hyper-accelerated tennis-core-lofi-garage of infamous guitar sound, stole our hearts from the very first moment I’ve really fallen in love with this album. A great combo of sounds: hard-edged synth-punk rhythms below with a charming disaffected vocal on top. With just one listen to their upcoming LP, it becomes evident that Busted Head Racket shares a kindred spirit with modern punk. Their music radiates an electrifying energy, bursting through the speakers with campy hooks and exhilarating restlessness. While their songs are irresistibly catchy, it's their lyrics that truly shine, offering a whimsical sense of humor. From humorous odes to fast food to insightful explorations of human relationships and the dynamics of personal agendas, Busted Head Racket delves into the intricacies of how people interact with one another. Prepare to be captivated by their zany synth punk sound and infectious enthusiasm. The Busted Head Racket LP on Erste Theke Tonträger is set to be a must-have addition to any punk music collection. Don't miss out on this exhilarating musical experience!

    BÄRCHEN UND DIE MILCHBUBIS

    Endlich komplett betrunken

    C.O.F.F.I.N

Children Of Finland Fighting In Norway

[engl] The 3rd full-length from this brilliant but underrated power-pop band and I have to say I'm completely blown away again. I generally have a pretty low tolerance for bubblegum-punk, but Nancy do it absolutely perfectly. As on their earlier releases, they still sound a lot like the Jabbers thanks to their straightforward punk arrangements and rather high-pitched vocals, though Nancy are even sillier and more over the top than the Jabbers (this is like Muff Divers-level silliness I'm talking about here!). At its core, this is simple, Ramones-influenced punk, and at the end of the day could be compared with 90s bands like the Queers or 00s bands like the Spits as anything else, and while that is a very crowded tradition, Nancy separate themselves from the pack with truly great songs. You may not want to like this, but once it's on your turntable I guarantee you'll have a very, very difficult time removing it. There are a lot of options out there for dumb, sing-songy punk, but for my money Nancy are right at the top of the heap. I mean, it's your basic second-and-third-Ramones-LP influenced stuff (though their newer stuff is a hair more musically sophisticated and borders on power-pop), but the execution is completely flawless and the gleeful sense of absurdity is totally infectious. I mean, this is the band that has their own sea shanty! It’s no secret that we are enthusiastic devotees of Joe Sussman’s work—he’s also a key player in Nancy as well as Dangus Tarkus and the outstanding MUFF DIVERS Dreams of the Gentlest Texture is the best thing he’s done so far. I’ve wasted a lot of time thinking (and having idle conversations, mostly with Seth and Jeff) about what makes a Muff Divers song different from a Nancy song or a Dangus Tarkus song, but I’m not sure there’s an answer to that riddle. The more important thing to note here is that—as good as all of those projects’ releases have been for some time now—each new one seems to be better than the last, and this is the best one yet. Enough of promo words this is what real NANCY fans have to say: „These dudes are like the modern day dictators“ „This reminds me of music, they sound like a band“ „Been listening to this everyday for like a year now... it’s definitely love“ „This HAS to be the best record of the last 10 years in my humble opinion! Definitely Ramones influenced but with a new and unique flair for songwriting, something a lot of these new bands want but can't but these guys JUST DO IT! A rare quality in today's rock.“ „Hot slab of wax from some real Chicago rockers.“
