    split

[engl] Martha are probably the best English pop band of the last 10 years, everything they touch turns to gold. After last years perfect debut LP 'Courting Strong', here are two brand new songs, 'The Historian' and an amazing Masshysteri cover of 'Dom Kan Inte Höra Musiken'. Currently writing their 2nd LP, world domination awaits. Benny The Jet Rodriguez from San Pedro follow up their debut LP Home. Run on Recess Records with these new killer songs. I read somewhere that Benny the Jet Rodriguez find a balance between the simple and the complex, between yesterday and today. Lo-fi pop genius, can't get enough of this band.

    MARVELOUS MARK

    Bite Me

[engl] Marvelous Mark is the moniker of Mark Fosco, formerly of the band Marvelous Darlings, which also included Matt Delong from No Warning and Ben Cook who plays guitar in Fucked Up. Essentially they were a Toronto punk supergroup "before they were famous", but their limited catalogue - a string of seven-inches - stuck like staples within a cult fanbase long after they called it quits. Now Mark has a solo project. With the title track previously released on Ben Cook's own label Bad Actors, Bite Me is made up of three succinct tracks so infectious they should come with their own NHS advice leaflet. We’re talking power-pop with punk roots. It's every bit as brilliant as you'd expect from a guy who uses "Marvelous" as a prelude to his actual name. Sound of your summer.

    MARY BELL

    Bellatrix Boadicea

[engl] Impressively packed in an epic and monumental artwork by Elzo Durt, “Bellatrix Boadicea” is a tumult of impressions, sensations and acts. The name “Bellatrix Boadicea” itself brings its share of mystery and it may sounds unfamiliar to some of us. This MARY BELL new full length gets its title from Boudica, the queen of a celtic tribe who led an uprising against the conquering forces of the roman empire in AD 60. Another form of sedition comes from the fourteen songs of this album, proceeding from haunted and noisy claims to frenetic punk jolts, from frenzy to introspection. The band is back where they left with “Histrion”, their critically acclaimed previous effort. A record which has managed to convince fans of punk, hardcore and garage and we bet that “Bellatrix Boadicea” will seduce an even larger audience with richer songs and atmospheres. The incisive words of the lyrics deal with what the band describe as their favorite subjects : “revenge, hate, shitty relationships, the circle of life and cats”. The record will come in three color versions.

    MESSER

    Augen

(Dennis "Eazy-D" Woste, 2011)

    METAL MARTY

    Metal Marty's Greatest Hits

[engl] MAGIC CITY, Idaho – Drop the needle on the opening number, “Magic City,” and for the next 35 minutes, you will be taken on a tour of an unusual lakeside resort town with a penchant for partying and no shortage of odd characters. “It’s quite a place if ya got grit, which we have in spades,” adds Marty. Metal Marty’s Greatest Hits pays tribute to the small Idaho burgh, spinning tales of common folks, blue-collar laborers, and dudes named ‘Hot Tub’ that work hard during the day and play harder at night, conjuring Steve Earle at times, evoking Iggy Pop at others. “I think it sounds like a ‘greatest hits’ record, there’s every kind of song on it, yet it still flows, “explains Marty, “and it’s a ridiculous title for a first record.” The album slips effortlessly across genres while never disrupting the overall tone or losing its deep sense of optimism. The balls-out barn-burner “Working My Ass Off” recalls the wildest rockers from the 1950s; “Idaho, Baby” is a shot of anthemic Americana with a not-so-subtle nod to Gary Glitter; and the country-tinged rocker “Goddamn Divorce” feels like a pat on the shoulder from Lebowski’s buddy Donnie, “Fuck it, dude, let’s go bowling.” “I’ve been talking about doing a solo album for years, and I think Eddie got sick of me yammering on about it, so we just started writing,” Marty explains. “We hung out in Magic City and wrote down all the funny shit that happens to him and turned them into songs,“ recalls Eddie Spaghetti, who co-wrote the album with Marty. “It’s a pretty literal interpretation of his life,” continues Eddie, “You want to know the legend of Metal Marty – this is it.” Marty got the call from the Supersuckers in 1999 to fill in for founding member Ron Heathman who was unable to tour for family reasons. “Ron wanted me to do it; he’s probably the biggest contributing factor to me being in the band. We were buds.” He later became a permanent member of the band, releasing four albums on the Los Angeles-based indie label Acetate Records. Greatest Hits also includes a rock n’ roll version of Roger Alan Wade’s “The Reckless Kind,” and while it’s not autobiographical, it might as well be. Wade, who also wrote the album’s liner notes, recalls his first encounter with Marty, “The first time I met Metal Marty was when he came leaping over the monitor speakers out of nowhere and started singing The Reckless Kind. He just blew the roof off.” “Yeah, that’s how it went down,” Marty laughs, “welcome to the roller coaster ride of chaos and bad decisions that is the life of Metal Marty! When I first heard that song, I felt it like it was written for me. I’ve always thought it would be cool to give it the ‘arena rock’ treatment. I was very proud to play it for Roger; he’s my brother for life.”

    MEXICAN WOLFBOYS

for the want of a home

[engl] Bookers and promoters use to file the Mexican Wolfboys as “Punkrock with upright bass”, “Punkabilly” or “Psychobilly/Punkrock”. But their wild blend of Punk, Surf, Country, Blues, Soul and Rockabilly refuses to fit such narrow categories. This Rock’n’Roll melting pot might rather remind listeners of other genre breaking bands like The Clash, Against Me! or The Peacocks. And indeed the Mexican Wolfboys don’t have any formula to their song writing. They just love what they do, which is hanging out, playing music and drinking beer on park benches. The band started out as a four-piece in early 2009 with Bene on drums, Lukas on guitar, Marc on vocals and Walid on upright bass. In late 2009 Jup joined in on rhythm guitar. With the completed line-up they played a couple of shows and recorded a demo in April 2010. Supporting various national and international Psychobilly and Punkrock bands in the following years the band grew into a roaring and howling live appearance. Around the turn of 2011 and 2012 the boys entered the studio again to record their first full-length. The result is “For The Want Of A Home”, an album that reflects the band’s love for guitar-driven music and captures their energy as a live band, as well as their charisma and humour. Played with just the right amount of passion and pathos, these twelve sing-alongs display a punk at heart spirit and a taste for vintage Rock’n’Roll sounds. Yeah! Beer!

    skatization of the christian west

[engl] The rst sign of life after nearly 5 years from these ve gentlemen out of Aachen. And a lot has happened since their debut in 2012. It's still the same talented group of snotty punk rockers (members of WHEN THERE IS NONE, FOR THE DAY, SHERIDAN, DKB ...) but they got rid of the upright bass and replaced the 'psychobilly" with a solid portion of "skate". The songwriting on "Skatization of the Christian West" is sophisticated and intelligent, so are the lyrics and don't get me started on the awesome cover/artwork. 10 great songs of melodic punk rock with occasionally background choir mixed in, a Gorilla Biscuits cover and a clear message - Skate the system!

    MINI SKIRT

    Casino

[engl] Byron Bay’s greatest and grittiest garage rock band, Mini Skirt, have just dropped their debut record. So proud of these boys, couldn’t think of a better debut album .This album is literally a BOMB! Raw, melodic, powerful from the beginning till the last song. Laid back and in your face - this is a brilliant album! Aussies mate. The music scene out there is untouchable. A Top tier album. It took us long enough. But everything about that floating penal rock calls for punk music. It’s hot, it’s dry (and still savage). The poison still flows beneath the ground there, something I can’t say about many other places. Where punk all began is another thing that is still debated today. I say it started in blue collar America. It was then sent across the pond by cannon fodder, and took its truest form there. What made punk so ludicrous was when it was adopted by the English accent. It fit it so well. Something about the grit and deficit of what once was sophisticated being translated into quick bursts of new English rule solidified the genre. That was before we heard Australia take a kraken at it. Sure, there’s been Australian punk before now, but it was always under the guise of what was popular in the brother world and never of what was right around them. You would have never known bands like Scientists or The Saints were from Australia because there was no pride and (anti)nationalism to it. Most importantly, there was no accent. Now, and thankfully I might add, Australia has grabbed the globe by the balls, and by their own terms too. We lap it up like dogs, say thank you and may we have another, from early King Gizzard, The Chats and Amyl and the Sniffers to the blokes from Byron in question: Mini Skirt. I first heard these guys on their debut EP Taste which was a rat-tailed beauty of Aussie gain-punted smut. I admired its lust for life and its barley breath right in your ear at all times. The debut album, near four years later, is an only-slightly-more-polished version of this. The TV eye is clearer than ever on “With Your Hands,” and the union jack-off sails at full mast on the hot single “Brigantine St.” Mini Skirt is responsible for some of the hardest hitting outback music out there. The grit is real. It’s all in the lead singer’s heavily accented delivery. It’ll put a cat scratch in yer throat. It’s not all rabid politik – there’s also the tale of daily Aussie life that we know not but love all the same. After hearing the latest of the Aussie punk sound with Casino, the Commonwealth is a place I’d like to see someday. But if I never do, I can always stick my head in the sand and think punk thoughts. Four years have passed since Mini Skirt’s first demo ‘Mate’ and it’s been three years since their breakout hit ‘Dying Majority’ shot them into local pub stardom. Now the Mini Skirt fellas are back with those distinctive riffs, raspy Aussie-accented vocals and lyrics that serve as gritty blue-collar poetry. In line with Mini Skirt’s back catalogue of raw and real pub songs, ‘Casino’ digs through the modern Australian experience, spanning subject matter such as British colonisation, cultural and political polarisation and working with your hands. ‘Casino’ refers not to a glitzy gambling facility but to the regional Northern NSW town where the band took a trip to write some songs. The album was recorded at The Music Farm in Coorabell, on Bundjalung Land. Mini Skirt would like to acknowledge the Arakwal Bumberlin people of the Bundjalung Nation who are the Traditional Custodians of the land on which this record was written and recorded. We respect their living culture, connection to land, waters and community. We extend our respect to Elders past, present and future.

[engl] People - is there a better combination? This record just makes sense and ETT is proud to bringt this split EP on your turntable. C.O.F.F.I.N and Mini Skirt from Gadigal and Cavanbah, Bundjalung respectively are two NSW bands with swelling reputations and followings for their individual takes on hard Australian rock’n’roll music and energetic approach to live performances. 2020 saw them both releasing full length albums during the deep midst of social lock-downs, in a harsh climate of closed venues and cancelled tours. Both albums were massive independent successes, selling out multiple pressings locally and followed by releases in Europe and USA. Raw, melodic, powerful from the beginning till the last song. Aussies mate. The music scene out there is untouchable. Original and raw. C.O.F.F.I.N and Mini Skirt would like to acknowledge the Gadigal People of the Eora Nation who are the Traditional Custodians of the land on which this recording was made. Minima

[engl] The first album by Minima, a new band comprising of members of Belgrado, Fatamorgana, Lux, Una Bestia Incontrolable, Snor and Barcelona among others is full of the kind of choice punk you'd expect of such a pedigree: jabbing riffs thrumming out, buzzed up with an insistent pull, clipped clattering beats pinning it down, vocals delivered with a potent snarl, accusatory and savage. From fizzing pogo of 'Adolescente', to 'Cicatriz's threatening hum, the whole album strikes a sharp balance between the big-riffing hardcore of someone like Glue or Nekra, and the Catalan / Spanish primitive-punk lineage that runs from Qloaqa Letal to dirt-raw rippers Pinen.

    MODEL WORKERS

    Cry

[engl] First time reissue of the totally unknown and lone 7” from the North East of England’s Model Workers. Originally released in 1981 on their own Make it Yourself label, and issued in three different coloured sleeves, the original two track 7” is as rare as it is great. This reissue adds two further songs from the ‘Model Workmanship’ demo from 1980, making it a classic four track EP. Model Workers deal in angular pop with a clear punk edge, with lead track ‘My Winter of Discontent’ being a pure DIY gem that is tight and jangly, and has the same feel as an early Television Personalties or The Times 7” or even a home recorded demo by the Jam. Had it been a Whaam! label release back in the day, Model Workers would have been a household name. But as it turned out Model Workers lifespan was short, burying the band into obscurity and turning the record into a DIY want list staple for 40 years. This reissue comes in an 8 page booklet sleeve including paper clips, band pictures and other band’s ephemera.

    MODERN PETS

    plastic mind

[engl] Modern Pets were born in the beginning of 2009 by four friends who shared an unhealthy dosage of despise against the south German yuppie-zone around Stuttgart, as one of many band projects they already had. After a few first shows and a demo recorded in their practice room and released by F.Y.I.T.H. Records, it happened that everyone decided to put as much time as possible into the band, rather than get into the next boring job or another pointless band and so things started getting serious…. A first 7” was recorded in January 2010 by Smail Shock in Berlin, named “Killing Sounds For Rotten People” and hit directly into the picture that was drawn by 70s UK and 80s US Punkbands before. This release, which was followed by two European tours in summer and fall 2010, sold out within a few months and two more 7”s (re-release of the demo tape and “Vista-Alienation”) emphasized their standing as one of the hardest working bands in this genre! Meanwhile located in Berlin, they put out their first longplayer on P.Trash and Concrete Jungle Records, as well as Modern Action Records in the US in June 2011. This release was followed by a 4 week European tour in summer and another 2 week tour in fall, which brought the guys to countries like Switzerland, France, Spain, Netherlands, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Italy, Czech Republic, Hungary […] and was extremely successful, which got them also a lot of attention by the European underground music press. Again the new record was sold out within a few weeks and needed to be repressed quickly. Now here ya go with four fresh tunes for a rotting Eurotour! “They lit their snot-filled crackerjacks on their cigarette butts and throw them straight into the face of all the yuppie scum and career advisors, covering the cities in good old 77´ styled Punkrock slime! Snotty and wild Punk songs with damn fine lyrics that will leave all hipster punks drooling in their fancy drinks and pissing their designer pants in awe.”

    MONOCHROME SET

    Eligible Bachelors

[engl] The Monochrome Set originally formed in London in January 1978. They were crucial and very influential in the Post-punk scene that evolved after the initial scorched earth of punk. Their third album "Eligible Bachelor" was released in 1982 and was their debut for new label Cherry Red. This masterpiece can be arty or satirical but is always fueled with energetic and elegant melodies.
