MLP von LOSER LIFE aus Bakersfield in Kalifornien. Eine Gegend, die die Band als „Achselhöhle Kaliforniens“ bezeichnet. Und genauso klingen LOSER LIFE auch. Schroffer Hardcorepunk der Anleihen an frühen HÜSKER DÜ oder ARTICLES OF FAITH nimmt aber auch 90er Jahre Bands wie BORN AGAINST Tribut zollt. LOST TAPES

    inconveinence

[engl] Ok, wow! If you liked the first LOST TAPES album you will definitely love their second record. This fantastic post punk band out of Aachen just came up with 10 brand new songs that merge the dark and punk sound of early 80's Joy Division/The Cure/Wipers with contemporary bands like The Estranged or Grave Pleasures. What the fuck is the sophomore jinx? These 4 guys are better now than ever and happily serve you 40 Minutes of inconvenient joy. Awesome.

    LOST TAPES

    S/T

[engl] These 4 guys are our newest gift to the world. Already having plaid in a couple of other bands over the last decades they are quite experienced musici- ans and have nally found their perfect sound together. THE LOST TAPES are combining early 80's post punk & wave (Joy Division & Wipers) with the dark sound of nowadays' bands like the Estranged, Grave Pleasures or Arctic Flowers. Very catchy echoic/reverberant guitar and vocal melodies meet prominent bass lines and straight drumming. Also, awesome cover by Roger Ballen.

    LUMPY AND THE DUMPERS

    Those Pickled Fuckers

[engl] Since emerging five years ago Lumpy and the Dumpers have gone from being aberrant oddballs to key figures in a whole scene of weirdo punk. Through Lumpy Records and its influence a grubby morrass of freak punk has bubbled to the surface in their slimy wake. Those Pickled Fuckers is the sound of a band distinguishing themselves from a sound they inspired, not falling into the easiness of a sound, finding new ways to express their grubby vision while retaining the essential muck that made people take notice in the first place. Over seven tracks of gritty discomfort punk, bulging with bodyhorror blues and puerile manic imprecations, Lumpy and the Dumpers revel and writhe in the effluvia of life and the rude pangs and oozings of flesh. Revivifying the dead metaphor of the earworm, these songs burrow snugly into your brain, distorted sing-song playground melodies, like hell dimension children's show theme songs, exploding with weird turns and twists, from the blaring horns of Someone's In The House's paranoiac stomp, to the wild malfunctioning chiptune screams cutting through Attention and the sinister whoops and crashes of the oddly mellow Clatter Song, Those Pickled Fuckers is an album only Lumpy and the Dumpers could've made.? LYSOL

    Down the Street

[engl] 'Down the Street' is the latest EP from Seattle punks LYSOL, following 2021's 'Soup for My Family'. The four piece lineup of Anthony Gaviria, Xtine Lundberg, Chad Ringo Bucklew, and Noah Earl Fowler waste no time on this EP, with all four tracks clocking in at two minutes or less. Perfectly executed hardcore punk with a touch of Pacific Northwest guitar rock in the mix. LYSOL have yet again kicked down a steamroller of a record that matches their power as a live band.

    LYSOL

    Soup for My Family

[engl] As we break free from the days spent at home, and as the vapid live streams begin to dwindle, the desire for a loud, fast, and loose rock'n'roll sound has never been greater. Well look no further folks, LYSOL are more than just a flammable aerosol cleaner, they're the sonic catalyst for destruction. A frequent fixture on the Seattle and Olympia scenes, Lysol have steadily made a name for themselves - not only through a stack of previous singles and demos, but as an exceptional live band. "Soup for My Family", the debut Lysol album, is exactly the moment we've all been waiting for. There's nothing held back in these eleven tracks, not an ounce of bullshit. It's a furious flurry of punk, hardcore, and garage rock. You can practically feel the calloused fingers that created these abrasive guitar licks and powerful rhythm pocket running right up against the most psycho, in-the-red vocals this side of Iggy or Teengenerate. A wailing sax (compliments of former Milk Music-ian Dave Harvey) sends "Soup for My Family" off into the cosmos - and if you can put yourself back together after that, the turntable may as well stay set at 45 so you can flip this sucker over and remember why you fell in love with rock'n'roll in the first place. "Soup for My Family" is packaged in a full color gatefold jacket adorned with the original artwork of Lysol's own Xtine Lundberg, plus lyric insert, download code, and hype sticker.

    L`APPEL DU VIDE

    Metro

[engl] „You ride over the Zwickau hills to the northeast. The leather reins cut into your frozen hands as hot and sour sod burns its way upwards. Metaphysical hangover sweat stabs through your skin pore by pore, through a faded coffin tattoo on your forearm. The tired feet in your father's NVA boots clutch the flanks of a steaming, gray Appaloosa, or is it just the souped-up Simson S51? It doesn't matter, because it's actually your very own mind-machine, in which you wander through the ruins of self-awareness, following the call of emptiness. To Chemnitz - the San Francisco of the little man. What awaits you there, however, is not Bernd Spier's simple-minded Flowertime, but asbestos, Eternit and, above all, the cracks that run through it. This is exactly where the songs on L'Appel du Vide's first full-length "Metro" condense into a 9-story high monolith of post-punk, death rock, synth and darkwave, which - once climbed - allows you to look beyond those genre boundaries. A shimmering black Jenga tower of (East) German angst and uncompromising introspection. Staggering so much more sincerely than Campino would have you believe in his rehearsed sideways tumbling dance of the center of society, he leads you away from the low-hanging fruit of the epigonal (post-)punk wind. Towards the blossoming flowers of true music love. You've bitten down hard and kept at it, digging and sorting, reading the liner notes and, above all, listening to the many records. We opened the drawers and left them open. Vocalist René laments into his own heart without airs and graces, without pointing fingers and immune to any zeitgeist hype. The guitar saws, jangles and shrieks with hunger and yet is full. The rhythm section growls and rattles and bangs its way straight into the abyss, from which analog synths also emerge here and there for a quick breath of air. You can actually hear the instruments breathing, the sound is so honest. Guitarist Flatty recorded the band at Studio Gloom in Chemnitz in early 2023. But it's not just Saxony and the all too often invoked, musty roots of those who have been left behind. There's Detroit, Frisco and Los Angeles. Manchester, New York and Portland. And just as Poison Idea's "Feel the Darkness" (to use a reminiscence) begins, "Metro" ends after 37 minutes of playing time - with naked piano. In between: a kinship in force and attitude, only without metal and posturing. Just power and void. And in the saddlebag an old photo of the sea, grainy, black and white and yet reflecting all colors.

    M.I.A.

After the Fact / Notes From the Underground

[engl] M.I.A.'s last 2 albums are reissued on vinyl for the first time since their original release in 1985 and 1987. Issued as a deluxe handcrafted package, this set includes 2 colored vinyl 12" LPs, a silkscreened cover, a die-cut cover, 4 inserts and a generous 40 page booklet. M.I.A. is a seminal hardcore punk band from Las Vegas / Orange County. They appeared on the classic 1982 Last Rites for Genocide and M.I.A. split LP and released the Murder in a Foreign Place album on Jello Biafra's Alternative Tentacles label in 1984. In 1985, the band enlisted the services of producer Thom Wilson (T.S.O.L, Dead Kennedys, D.I., D.O.A., etc.) and recorded Notes from the Underground. Following a path treaded by the likes of the Damned and T.S.O.L., the band expanded their sound with darker tones and a more personal approach. The band split-up soon after the release of the record. In 1986 singer Mike Conley took over guitar duties and reformed the band with original Last Rites drummer Chris Moon, along with Frank Daly and Mark Arnold (who would both go on to form Big Drill Car). After the Fact, released in 1987 on Flipside records retains the classic OC punk sound, adding a dose of British new-wave.

    Positively negative

    MAN-EATERS

Twelve More Observations on Healthy Living

[engl] From the great city of Chicago, returning to the limelight after their widely acclaimed debut LP, are none other than the almighty MAN-EATERS. Twelve More Observations on Healthy Living kicks right back into the 70's-inspired hard rock and proto-punk/metal hooks delivered on their debut. Much like the great Annihilation Time, our friends in Man-Eaters have really come into their own on this second album - applying the energy and chops built up from their hardcore days in Cülo into a heavier, louder, and pummeling hard rock equivalent. This is one for the beer drinkers and hell raisers, for the punks and metalheads - a damn fine rock'n'roll album that's fast, loose, and ready to be cranked LOUD!

    MANIACS/ TIN CIN ARMY

    Split

[engl] One of the few German punk classics that has not been reprinted yet is the MANIACS / TIN CAN ARMY Split LP. MANIACS was a hardcore punk band that born in the summer of 1982 in Rotenburg from a few local bands (Blutverlust and Bunker). Which was connected from the beginning to the English hardcore punk style (G.B.H.VARUKERS, ONE WAY SYSTEM). In their texts, the band picked up on classic political point themes and sang against right-wing extremism and the established society. TIN CAN ARMY from Göttingen was the house band of the Juzi GÖ which was founded in 1982. The first release was released in 1983, the split LP with the MANIACS. The recordings were then recorded under pressure of time in the Musiclab in Berlin. Lyrically, Tin Can Army were very politically on the way, which was probably already too much for the label at the time, since a large part of the edition was supplemented by T.C.A. was not settled. The Ox-Fanzine described the band, which was quite rare, as "Best German intelligent Punkrockunderground, which is even more enthralling 20 years later." The split LP was released in 1984 at the time known in Germany label "Mülleimer Records" ( including Inferno, Normahl, Chaos Z and many others). The Rerelease comes in the original cover artwork as InsideOut version, plus a 24-page booklet (also with the information that was left out at the first edition) and a 30cm x 30cm flyer.

And then when I lived in Largs I went for a lot of walks thinking about myself, and then I went back to my room and read some books, and then I started to worry what all this isolation was doing to me, so I came back, and now I am putting this LP onto the internet in my Mum's house because Steve give me a box of them, and I don't have a record player, but my Dad does, though I'm not going to sit around the house listening to myself because he has a Def Leppard acoustic album he is listening to, and one of those sham five CD box set things he bought in HMV of all the Free albums, and there is just not enough time for me, the hard of hearing cat and the Paul Rodgers giving out his advice about if you are trying to screw me baby take my advice. MARTHA

    Please Don't Take Me Back

[engl] Durham indiepop-punks Martha return with their fourth album, and it might just be their best one yet. With their endlessly radiant hooks dialled up to maximum setting, paired with another heart-rending and relatable lyric sheet that reflects on the universal scars of the pandemic years, Please Don’t Take Me Back is the work of a band in the form of their life. It’s also an instant classic - one that’s both smartly prescient and warmly addictive.
