E.P.
[engl] Smirk is a solo project from Nic Vicario (CEMENTO). Following the release of ‘LP’ on Feel It (US) and Drunken Sailor (EU/UK) earlier this year, Smirk is back with a brand new EP. While ‘LP’ compiled Smirk’s two limited run cassettes, ‘EP’ is seven fresh tracks of wiry well-crafted punk with heaps of hooks. Sharp guitars and anxious one note leads adding tension to the locked in propulsive groove of the bass and drums. Nic Vicario, doing his best ‘man on wire’ routine, exudes cool confidence while poking at the anxieties of modern life. Strutting his way to the apocalypse one jittery jam at a time, ‘EP’ is agitated, catchy, and bouncy as hell. 200 pro-printed clear/clear cassettes housed in a color J-Card inside a Norelco box. Recorded by Nic Vicario. Mastered by Will Killingsworth. Art by Smoking Room.- Format

First Kiss
[engl] You ever spent a Saturday night dripping with sweat and lathered up for wanton destruction? Ready to rage at the drip of a drop, looking for action. Well that is SMUT in a nutshell. They're like that ALL the time. Lucky for us, they scraped together a couple hours to record the music. A late night drug fueled session to be sure. "First Kiss" feels like if Darby Crash could sing on time and his backing band was "Record Collectors..." era POISON IDEA without the stadium anthem tendencies. In other words pure snarling punk that is nastier than an unchecked venereal disease in the summer swelter. 500 copies on white vinyl housed in a 24pt reverse board jacket with poster and download card included. Tattoos by Alan Dubbs. Art by Sal Hernandez. Recorded by Mike Kriebel.- Format

Uncanny Valley
[engl] In the ripping hardcore scene that has recently cropped up in Pittsburgh surrounding bands like Living World, White Stains and Necro Heads comes Speed Plans; a writhing, drug fueled, violence machine of manic hardcore in the vein of Repos or Ripcord. When we were first contacting Speed Plans on account of their absolutely raging cassette output, they mentioned wanting to do an LP that was "15 fast ones and 1 slow one." We were sold right then and there. If mean, fast, low-fi and low brow is what you're after then look no further, you've arrived.- Format

4 Songs
[engl] Dishevelled, mid-tempo punk has a way of getting under your skin and SPIRITO DI LUPO are the perfect representatives. Raw and snarling, they play short and snappy hardcore punk inspired by the ’80s Italian sound. Based between Milan and Bologna, SPIRITO DI LUPO features members of KOBRA, SKALP, CERIMONIA SECRETA, HORROR VACUI, TUONO and an array of other fine projects. This diverse musical background serves SPIRITO DI LUPO well, as they lurk and jerk between the angry edge of hardcore and the darker dwellings of anarcho punk. Mixing the raw with the rudimentary, their compositions are as ominous and sulky as they are ecstatic and wild. This mix works unusually well and, as a result, their five tracks manage to sound both militant and frolicingly chaotic. Sharp, catchy, almost psychedelic riffs meet a strong and brooding bass, which in turn complements the primitive and raucous drumming. The dual male and female vocals take this notion one step further, with the deep, slurring and sarcastic male vocals contrasting effectively with the strident, more urgent female ones. Their overall sound is aggressive and yet inviting, and this jovial ataxia is none more evident than on their redo of their opening track, “I miei occhi sono chiusi”. The atrocities of humanity often highlight the beauty of the world, and this paradoxical aesthetic comes through in SPIRITO DI LUPO’s artwork, lyrics and sound, complete with stormy weather field recordings on the closing track.- Format

[engl] When The Steves' two extremely limited (maybe 100-200 of each??) EPs were released back in 1980 and '81 respectively, the squares around Harvard's newsroom were aghast at the audacity of this group. Having the stones to release such crudely-rhythmic, near mechanical and downright terse tunes in the day's often long winded prog rockin' ballad heavy radio reality that were too robotic to be “punk” and too unruly to be anything but was, to say the least, a bold move. Sure to cause an uproar in the halls, protests in the classroom and uninvited dancing in the streets! In the annals of New England's rock journalism, there is not a mountain of coverage on The Steves, certainly not as much as the Alan Parsons Project or Aerosmith, but the fact remains that they were a fully charged powder keg of raw energy and new musical direction that seemed to elude most of the world back then. Not to say they didn't get any light shone on them, they did get a fair amount of airplay on the college stations around Boston and even appeared on the cover of Boston Rock magazine. It is Iron Lung Records' distinct pleasure to offer the modern world a new chance to discover the ever vital and effervescent music of The Steves' initial EPs along with a third EP of songs never released on vinyl until now that were recorded at the time or shortly after the initial sessions. A true synth-punk/KBD treasure. Obscurity is for suckers. Let's get shakin'! 700 copies of each EP on black 70gr vinyl housed in a 12pt reverse board glue pocket sleeve with faithful reproductions of the original art.- Format

[engl] “I somehow missed that the Chicago hardcore punks C.H.E.W. broke up, but if we get Stress Positions out of the deal, I ain't mad about it. Stephanie Brooks now fronts the ex-C.H.E.W. dudes, but it's not a cut and paste job — where C.H.E.W. relied on speed and swagger, Stress Positions wide-screens the pit's psychedelic vista. There's a little more metal riffage and mid-tempo tension to maximize the intensity so that, once the band revs to hallucinatory level, the impact is devastating.” -Lars Gotrich- Format

[engl] The combination of all their previous work and a steady live band has come together to form the great Henge Beat LP. Beautifully housed in a bright European-art-designed gatefold sleeve. These guys have outdone themselves with this one. Next Phase
[engl] Back when they started out as a side project of Melbourne's goth punk band - MASSES, UBIK described themselves as "Catchy brat-beat with a little sprinkling of anarcho goodness". That still rings true but with a slight lineup change and a couple years of practicing/gigging, they've gotten 100x tighter and traded most of the goodness for a bit more snarl. The catchiness remains strong and deliberate. This band rules, we can't wait for you to hear their best work. 125 translucent lime green, 125 creamsicle orange and 350 on black vinyl housed in a custom diecut 24pt reverse board jacket with insert and download card included. UBI have managed, working so smoothly it almost seems effortless, to make music that is timelessly familiar and crackling with modern energy. Anthemic industrial tinged hardcore punk with an anarcho slant from Barcelona. Truly, music of the people for the people. One of the best bands going these days. Ring, ring, don't miss this call. Living Underground
[engl] The Vacant Lot are a first wave punk band from Canberra that released one lone EP in 1981 on the Thought Criminals’ label, Doublethink Records. They played a few gigs and broke up shortly after. What they left behind was a bit of a head scratcher for most with two songs of rough and tumble KBD/MurderPunk/proto-hardcore and two songs of pulsing, keyboard driven post-punk in the Wire - Chairs Missing vein that once sold out, sort of faded into obscurity. Now with a 2022 remaster from Mikey Young and a renewed vigor for creative activity since 2014, “Living Underground” finally gets the proper reissue treatment. Faithfully and lovingly recreated to be exactly the same as the elusive original issue.- Format

Hanagal
[engl] "The Land of Fire and Ice" has long been known for immense natural beauty, ancient folklore, hakarl, aluminum and hairy little horses. What you may not know is that punks were also there from the very start of the show. One of the most important bands to emerge from the thriving Reykjavík scene was Vonbrigði. Though they draw influence from UK and European post-punk and American hardcore, have no doubts Vonbrigði were 100% their own unique thing. They didn't receive a ton of international attention at the time and sort of faded into history but not without releasing a handful of songs, including a blistering hardcore track on the Rokk Í Reykjavík soundtrack compilation and an incredible EP on the fledgling Gramm label owned by Ásmundur Jónsson and Einar Örn (of Purrkur Pillnikk, Kukl and, more notably, Sugarcubes fame). All of the aforementioned songs are included here along with the rest of the previously (and unbelievably, I mean how is material this amazing not released immediately after recording it? Crazy!) unreleased '82/'83 sessions. 71 minutes of sweat and grit. Who needs volcanoes when you have Vonbrigði's fire? All tracks recorded between July 1982 and January 1983 at Studio Hanagal by Kjartan Kjartansson. Mixed and mastered in 2020 at Klakhöllin by Hallur Ingólfsson. Art by Þórir Georg.- Format

They will still have to do the work though. There is always the work. 'The Future Is Wide Open' is a sarcastic bite out of society's apple. And what a rotten apple indeed. Human Outline
[engl] People will only be pushed so far before they snap. And then violence ensues. Followed by an immediate need for solitude. ‘Human Outline’ is what that feeling sounds like. Fists packed, boots laced, ready to destroy everything in sight. Wound Man has always been a band heavily influenced by the likes of Crossed Out and Infest, that’s obvious, but what really makes them stand out is a heavy doom undercurrent that doesn’t necessarily come out in the riffs but the darkness of it is there. No rip-off shit, just tangible depression given to angry action via alternating/direct current. And that is some magnificent ugliness.- Format
